The Circus Was Out

September 29th, 2013

What a crazy day it was at the Stadium on Dale Mabry Highway, and it had nothing to do with the game today.

Long before kickoff the focus was on defrocked franchise quarterback Josh Freeman. Reports came out that Freeman had missed “more than one” team meeting this week and, on top of the unauthorized interview for BSPN, made the Bucs so livid he was inactive for today’s game.

This was sort of expected as Bucs commander Greg Schiano refused to deny a report Friday that he was going to deactivate Freeman.

Then came the report from ESPN NFL Insider Chris Mortenson that teams were inquiring to see if Freeman was entering a substance abuse program before they talked turkey with Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik for a trade. Then it was learned Freeman was banished from the team’s sideline by the Bucs and ordered to watch the game from a suite.

When Freeman walked out of the Bucs locker room after the heinous loss to the Cardinals, he bolted out of the stadium as if he was late for a limited free beer offer.

While running from a pack of reporters, Freeman over and over uttered the same phrase as documented by Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune.

@RCummingsTBO: Bucs QB Josh Freeman left Raymond James Stadium on Sunday saying only that “I can’t comment at this time” on his status with the team

Later, Schiano noted that it was a mutual decision between him and the embattled signal-caller that he not be on the sidelines for the game.

The bye week came at the right time. This team is spiraling in a downward turn and perhaps the bye can stop the circling of the drain or enable the team to bounce back. Joe has never seen anything so crazy.

Pendulum is swinging back towards Josh…….

Never seen anything so crazy? How about people trying to convince others that Glennon is the answer. Now, THAT is crazy.

  3. NJBucsFan Says:

Classic Schiano BS… take away a resource for Glennon. I know Freeman is not the answer, but he’s in the second yr in this offense, but why use everything you have…oh yeah, ego.

    What a douche.

  4. luivill Says:

this was painful..I thought for a second we had someone to move the O but breakdown after breakdown…the defense can’t hold teams forever. They played great, the offense needs to help them out. #justmythoughts

  5. Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Don Penn did a terrible job today, and so did Doug Martin, of picking up the Blitz, and letting Arizona get to Glennon.
Penn gave up the inside lanes several times.
Glennon was under pressure all day.
He made some mistakes, but I think he is going to be a very good QB in this league.
    0 and 4, what a Bummer.

  6. Raphael Says:

Mutual decision ? Lolololol ! Everything Schiano says is bullspit !

Good for you Josh…. Best of luck to you . One buc is a house of cards.

  7. Raphael Says:

Jets get our high draft pick ….oh joy !

  8. NJBucsFan Says:

Raphael…as stated on previous posts. You’re an idiot. The only pick the Jets get is a 3rd at the highest.

  9. Buc Neckid Says:

    Dude
It is a High third round pick

  10. RBellBuc Says:

Congrats to Josh for giving his middle finger even if it does cost him dearly in the future. This coach is a joke and doesn’t know how to get the best from his players. The only way Schiano succeeds is if his players are already self developed. Because it is apparent he has no clue how to work with what he has. Freeman’s digression under Schiano is a testament more towards Schiano’s inability to adapt. Guarantee if Chip Kelly had hired on here Freeman would be playing a lot better under his tutelage and scheme.

  11. Jacko101 Says:

It sucks that I sort of want us to lose just to get Schiano out

  12. Biglebowski Says:

Schianonis a dishonest joke. How he can chase out our franchise qb out and say Glennon is the answer is beyond ridiculous. Next year well be looking for a qb AND a coach.

Freakin fantastic. Thanks, Schianonis. You’re a bleeping clown.

  13. Mr. Patrick Says:

The sooner they trade Freeman, get him out of here and make him just a bad memory the better. Thanks Raheem. I don’t even know the name of Denver’s Offensive Coordinator, but lets give him a call

  14. Ty Says:

The sooner they get schiano out of tampa the better..honestly I don’t believe anything schiano says in his press releases..how could anyone believe anything he says? He has released great talent and made moves that makes no sense..ppl want to ride Freeman for not talking to the press..that was most likely a call by his agents.. He is just doin what he is told..schiano lost respect from the nfl last year and he has lost it from a lot of fans this year..he wanted Freeman gone before preseason hence the trade talks for Palmer..he got what he wanted and it cost him another W today..hopefully rockstar dom will see the bs and trash this coach..he is not nfl material and he has shown it..he actually kicked a fg on 4th and 13 today..with Freeman in they went for it..it’s easy to see he wanted Freeman to fail

  15. Buc power Says:

@mr Patrick lol Peyton manning is the coordinator that guy is awesome

  16. 1976 Paper Bag Look in 2013 Says:

I bought a big jar this week, anyone need a Tums?

  17. Joke Says:

Probably ought to watch your flippant “running for free beer” jokes about a guy in the same column you mention him possibly going into a substance abuse program. It’s in bad taste. And I doubt his lawyers will like it.

  18. White Tiger Says:

MY guess is that this particular “joe” is EyeRah, Woody, or the ever lovin’ Martin Fennelly (whose style I like, but has increasingly turned negative ever since his Tom McEwen retired).

It’s as easy to hide behind the title of “joe” and lob grenades into the midst of a group of fans – as it is for Tigers to toss a few into the midst of witless, lazy, one-trick-pony, talentless sports writers like EyeRah Woody and Doc Propecia….

Tides turning on you rats…heading for the exit doors of the HMS Schiano yet?
