Return Of Revis Island

September 2nd, 2013

Peter King of Sports Illustrated talks all things Darrelle Revis in this theMMQB.com video. Also, King has a hunch that will make the Mike Glennon Mob really, really, really happy.

I think the worst thing to happen for the Glennon Mob would be for Freeman to struggle and Glennon to get playing time. Then the Glennon Mob would have to face the harsh reality that on top of his Ichabod Crane spindly frame, poor mobility, and inexperience, they’ll also see how he can’t/won’t set his feet in the pocket, has a noodle arm, and more often than not, throws the ball up for grabs.

I know he’s a rookie, but he has been thoroughly unimpressive in any area during the preseason. He hasn’t wowed with arm strength, mobility, knowledge of the offense… anything… other than, wow, he’s tall… for a player to have a shot at doing well, he at least has to show something against NFL 2nd, 3rd, and 4th stringers… and Glennon hasn’t.

    Lmao ….funny stuff ### JF5

  3. Jacko101 Says:

    #freeman mob

  4. chris Says:

    Brandon,

you say Glennon hasn’t wowed with any arm strength or shown any improvement/impressions?

Listen, I’m not humming the train” start Mike Glennon” but your evaluation is purely garbage. Glennon has come on the field and when things not going right, he remained poised and didn’t start firing balls in triple coverage (remind you of anyone?). Glennon is also a rookie. And he’s impressed in Baltimore and New England games. And in the final preseason game, he was surrounded by WRs who didn’t make the roster and 1 who doesn’t deserve to be on that roster (ogeltree).

Glennon is not a rookie who is ready to start. Period. I know that. The only thing I have been saying is, Schiano would NOT be afraid to make a QB switch if/when Freeman is struggling. If you want my harsh opinion, we’re not going to the playoffs with either of them starting. But If things turn for the worse with Freeman, Schiano may need to see what he has in Glennon.

  5. RBellBuc Says:

Of course we’re talking about Peter King here. I’ve learned to take whatever he says with a grain of salt. As far as Glennon goes, if Freeman is melting down, it is my hope that Glennon could come in and provide a spark. If we actually get to that point where the Coach is willing to replace Freeman for poor play, we will probably be in trouble and will need Glennon to play the hero. That’s a lot to ask a rookie, but he’s a smart kid. He will have to pick up the slack. The question should be “How far will Schiano let Freeman slide before he gives him the hook”?

  6. FLBoyInDallas Says:

If Glennon plays, this season is shot. That means the Glennon mob aren’t actually Bucs fans because they want something that will lead to a sub .500 record for 2013 and put the Bucs in a horrible position for the future.

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Coach won’t pull the plug on Freeman until & if it is obvious that the season is lost. Then Glennon will be brought in the last part of the season & Freeman won’t be resigned.
He could be traded to a team that doesn’t want Freeman to hit the open market.
I hope that doesn’t happen. I’m rooting for Freeman to succeed, as we all should as fans.

  8. FLBoyInDallas Says:

And by sub .500 I really mean 4-12 or 5-11. If Glennon plays, this team doesn’t get anywhere near 8 wins. Not even close. Some people just can’t perceive reality.

  9. Splengo Says:

Darrelle Revis looks like the late Teddy Pendergrass. Lol

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Splengo

I wonder if he sung “Don’t Leave Me This Way” to the Jets on the way out?

  11. Couch Fan Says:

    @FLBoyInDallas

Where did you get your fortune tellers license? Do they just hand them out these days or can I just go to any store to get mine? LOL

Seriously. People crack me up… like we’ve done so much better than 4-12 the last few years under Josh? Give me a break… all these people defending Josh after 5 years and now there all expert analysts after seeing Glennon start one meaningless game..

  12. Couch Fan Says:

What I want to know is why people are so worried about the back up instead of the starting QB who has not looked any better… More bias I see.

  13. RBellBuc Says:

Probably they feel they need to defend Freeman after the summer long crusade by the Glennon Mob against him. Personally, I’ve never seen so much disrespect levied on our QB like that was put on Freeman, and we’ve had a lot of sorry QB’s. There are a lot of terrible starting QB’s out there now that are not getting the criticism that Freeman has received, not only nationally but locally and by the rogue fringe Buc fans.

  14. Couch Fan Says:

Losing teams and players get criticized… thats how it works with any team. Josh stunk it up so he gets criticized. You think they’d give Big Ben a pass if he seldom had a winning record and no playoffs? what about Brady? Eli? Brees?

It comes with the territory. People need to quit getting so butt hurt… you either win or you get criticized. It’s no different than anywhere else. 5 years of mediocrity is very hard to accept for some people… Everyone needs to be criticized from Dom on down… just my opinion… but jumping on a rookie over a pre-season game… now thats just stupid… almost as stupid as this whole Bowers thing.

  15. Couch Fan Says:

But there is no need to defend the guy. He will tell you himself his play has not been good enough. His record atests to that. He has 10 million reasons why he , along with his butt hurt fans, need to suck it up.

Is it fair to put more blame on him than anyone else? No but thats why he gets paid the big bucks. As far as I’m concerned he’s stolen money from the Bucs so far.

It’s no different here than anywhere else. You think we are the only ones who crucify an underperforming QB? What great QB would be great if he seldom had a winning season with no playoffs? Lol. How about we focus on THAT guy who is actually going to have playing time instead of tearing down a rookie who hasen’t even started 1 meaningful game for us…

Dont worry Freemanites. If Glennon proves he’s just a 6 wins a year QB also… we will all turn on him to. Medicority should never be accepted.

  16. FLBoyInDallas Says:

    @RBellBuc

Totally agree. Unfortunately for us it’s the small disrespectful minority who yell the loudest. The silent majority just sit back and act with more respect towards the Bucs players and management.

Anyone who believes Glennon could even come close to Freeman in leading this team is either ignorant or just plain delusional.

  17. RBellBuc Says:

and you wonder why they defend him? Go back and read how you continually take pokes at Freeman and the fans that want to see him succeed. Freemanites? really? When you stick your finger in someones face sometimes it will come back as a nub. There is a way to get your message across without being so vehemently rude. Just saying, maybe you should learn to take the high road. peace out…

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

OK…Freeman has his downside for sure. He is paying the price by not having a large contract extention. We are paying the price with W-L…..
Its easy to pick on the QB because that is one guy.
How about last year we had the worst pass defense in the entire NFL
Ronde retired, we cut Wright, traded Talib, cut Myron Lewis and brought in Revis, Banks, Goldson.
That is making strides to solve the problem.
As for QB we drafted who we thought would be a good backup/eventual replacement. A QB with the ability to make all the throws. He is not ready….big surprise….
What else would you have us do?

  19. tonytwocents Says:

are we STILL having this argument? you really think Peter King spent all offseason in a Winnebago outside One Buc and has first-hand knowledge of the Glennon non-issue?

please.. we JBF readers, including that one dude in China, are more informed than drive-by sports analyst Peter King.

He says that Glennon has been “under the radar” this offseason?? He’s been the most scrutinized and talked about player so far. On top of that, there’s nooooo way the Bucs let Schiano pull out Freeman this year unless he gets seriously injured. If they were confident in Glennon being ready, they would have released Orlo.

“Glennon has been so good and so SOLID?? in the off season & in training camp….” from JBF’s detailed camp coverage, Glennon was as inconsistent as his preseason performances.

Peter King needed to fill up a 2 minute spot to get that Gillette money, so he spent over a minute stating the obvious about Revis, and followed it up with a bunch of “maybes”, “I think”, and “probablys” on Glennon.

  20. Eric Says:

The kid ain’t playing unless Free gets hurt. Greg and Dom aren’t that stupid, they know the Glazers can turn on a dime and are damn tired of losing.

Not even Dom can sell them on another rebuilding program. We’re in the fifth year of this one and built a whole offense around Free.

What they should have done is invest in an experienced backup to avert the total disaster which will currently occur if Free goes down, which may happen if our fabulous oline doesn’t start blocking better.

  21. Buc1987 Says:

Has Freeman actually played a full FIVE years? Or has he only played 3 and a 1/2 years? Why is that we get this same old tired line about people defending him after 5 years nonsense? If people are still defending him in week 16.Then drag that 5th year line out when it should be draggged out.

All summer long people were in here backing up Freeman with fact after after fact and then more facts. What did it get them? Comments like your a Freemanite, you live in fantasy land, your just making more excuses for Freeman.

Then if someone mentioned the secondary and the pass rush as being the main problem that person would get jumped on again with lines like. Oh so now your making up excuses for Freeman by blaming the defense.

I’ll say it again so here I go ONE MORE TIME. Freeman has played 3 and a 1/2 seasons. In one of those seasons the team went 10-6 because of Freeman. A team the Seattle Seahawks the team the Bucs beat the crap out of in that season went 7-9 and went to the playoffs that year. For more than half of last season Freeman was on fire, then the bottom dropped out and he sucked. So what we “Freemanites” are actually defending is he’s really only sucked for 1 and a 1/2 seasons. Unless you want to include his rookie year. Then we are defending that he only sucked for 2 seasons.

When I first found JBF one of my first posts was defending Freeman by saying the same thing I’ve been saying all summer long and that is. Why don’t we wait until we see how he plays in 2013? My post used to be that short and sweet. Let the KID (25 yrs old) play in 2013. If he sucks it up out there and people in here want to start up their crusade against him again, I’ll probably join them. Just let the kid play in 2013. As of right now as far as I’m concerned Glennon is NOT an option. Freeman would have to turn into a Byron Leftwich or Trent Dilfer for them to make a switch and I just don’t see that happening. Oh and more thing stop sniffing Glennon’s jock strap.

  22. Buc1987 Says:

Of course I can’t stop there I wish I could because I’m sick of posting about Freeman. So I hope this is my last post about Freeman until Sept 9th. For the record I am a Bucs fan, not a Freemanite. I only want what’s best for my team, and right now and for most of the season Freeman is what’s best for my team. Period.

  23. tonytwocents Says:

’87 said, “For the record I am a Bucs fan, not a Freemanite. I only want what’s best for my team, and right now and for most of the season Freeman is what’s best for my team.”

Thank You! My sentiments exactly… BTW, if Freeman goes down, and is out for a few games, but we have an average or winning record, they’ll put Orlo in there before Glennon. But like you said ’87, I’m sick of posting about this too.

  24. rdbucfan Says:

If Orlo is the guy if Free is injured why is he listed as 3rd on the depth chart behind Glennon?

Nobody on here knows what Schiano will do or what he is thinking.

Those of you that are so quick to bash Glennon for his play with 2nd, 3rd string and future beer truck drivers at every position on offense. Free is playing with the number ones for the most part (less nicks and joseph) but basically the same o line as last year in which you’ve decided he is a franchise qb. He looks just as bad if not worse than Glennon if you take into account.

I want Josh to succeed as much as those of you that are bashing Glennon. If Josh plays like he did in 2010 with twice as much talent my favorite team will have a good year. The problem with Josh is that 2010 was the exception not the norm.

  25. Raphael Says:

Freeman will lead us to the playoffs, now that we have a defense to help.

The anti Freeman rhetoric is hilarious…get a clue dummies .

  26. Raphael Says:

Wonder where that moron Robert went to ? In hiding ? Lmao

  27. PRBucFan Says:

Isn’t kind of ironic for the Freemanites to criticize Glennon?

Wouldn’t it be kinda like criticizing Freeman than?
Except Glennon is an actual rookie?

Hmmm, must go only one way…

  28. Buc1987 Says:

PRBucfan…no it does not all go one way. It’s called Freeman is the Bucs ONLY shot at the QB position to allow this team to make it to the playoffs. Plain and simple. If they have to turn to Glennon imo then they and us fans are screwed. It’s just that simple. There is nobody backing him up. The same goes for VJ and Martin. If one of them goes down, it’s a big drop off. I’m not bashing Glennon either, I’m just hoping the season does not come down to handing the keys over to a rookie QB.

  29. Capt. Tim Says:

My only question to the The Glennon mob, is ” how do you possibly single out Freeman? Are you blind? Or just really dumb?

Yes, Freeman has sucked. So has Glennon. So has the blocking, rushing , and pass receiving!!!!

We haven’t done a damn thing right on offense yet! We haven’t had 11 guys execute one play correctly yet.

But you think that lousy college QB will improve things??
Lmao!!!!!! That scarecrow couldn’t impress against college teams. We drafted him blind.

My only prayer at this point- is that Shiano intentionally held back all preseason. And there is precedent for that- he always did that at Rutgers.

Otherwise, only a clueless fool would believe any QB could win with the crap we watched the last 4 games!

  30. PRBucFan Says:

    Thanks for that Capt Tim

“Yes, Freeman has sucked. So has Glennon.”(In his first preseason start as a rookie)

My point exactly, it goes both ways lol.

Hence the irony in Freemanites singling Glennon out as well 😉

And I hear ya 1987, hopefully that doesn’t happen, but while highly improbable definitely not impossible.

  31. PRBucFan Says:

I wish I was bestowed with the foreknowledge and wisdom some of you have been given by God sometimes…

Than I could know all things all time time too and I’d never be wrong!!!

P.S. Not directed at you 1987 lol

  32. Capt. Tim Says:

As a Buc Fan- I want wins. If the man to do that is Josh Freeman- then he’s my guy! If it isn’t, then their ass better find that guy.

But with the way we looked so far- there has never been a guy born that could lead that rabble to a winning season.

I sure hope Shiano has been bluffing so far . . .

  33. Capt. Tim Says:

I just wish 75% of the people here knew something about Football. It’s amazing, but most know virtually nothing about the game.

    And yet they post fervently.
