Lawrence Tynes Rips Bucs

September 1st, 2013

It seems Bucs kicker Lawrence Tynes, per Mike Garafolo of FoxSports.com, is troubled by how the Bucs handled his MRSA infection and stops just short of hinting a Bucs employee is the source of the MRSA.

(Look, Joe is not mocking someone with MRSA. Joe was once hospitalized with a staph infection coming from his foot and it was ugly and painful. The Tynes saga is simply interesting and growing more so by the day.)

Tynes wouldn’t reveal the full details of how he believes he contracted the infection but said, “The individuals that have tested positive for staph or MRSA, we feel very strongly about where it came from.”

Asked about a report the team’s trainer, Todd Toriscelli, is dealing with MRSA, Tynes merely replied, “I’m not a doctor. I just feel bad he’s been dealing with a serious infection of some sort for the past four months.”

Tynes later absolved Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik of any ills, he believes Dominik is pressured by an unknown source to place him on the NFI list.

This should get interesting.

    Joe,

Did Tynes come into camp with the ingrown toenail?…..usually those things take a while to develop.
I do think he got MRSA with Bucs.
And….what difference does it make to Tynes…aren’t we still paying him anyway?….If he is on IR then he can’t play for anyone for an extended period.

  2. RBellBuc Says:

He got paid! What’s he aiming for, a lifetime settlement? The MRSA and the hangnail should be healed within the year and he can kick again, if anyone would want him after this public spectacle.

  3. Tampamac Says:

Off topic here(and that’s partially because I couldn’t care less about Tynes or his wife), but at this point don’t look for a miracle signing at TE. I scoured the waiver wires on PFT and the best name I could come up with is Daniel Fells who was cut by New England. Chiefs cut Moeaki but he has a fractured shoulder. I think at TE pretty much what you see is what you get with us.

  4. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Both he and Nicks got it in New England. They came back with it.

The Bucs treated the facility as a precaution be ause both men had been in the facility after returning.

This guy is only mad because it is listed as a “non-football” injury. As a result he was not placed on IR. He can whine all he wants. The truth is the Bucs did nothing wrong at all. The man was “trying” to make the team. Now he feels he should be on the team without earning it.

If I were the Bucs I would tell the man that unless he ceases this drams he will not get paid. Make him sign a statement.

  5. lightningbuc Says:

I read elsewhere that even though he gets paid, because the Bucs claim it is not football related Tynes does not get credit for a season played in the NFL pension program, which is why he will contest it. Not sure why the bucs didn’t just IR him to avoid the already bad press becoming worse.

  6. Youpeoplearesodumb Says:

He wants an IR designation instead of NFI because the year on IR counts towards his years of service for pension purposes. I’m also guessing that IR would hold the Bucs more accountable in any future legal proceedings.

  7. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Tampamac
We need tightend less than you might think. Stocker will play game one and as it turns out Crabtree has a significant “sprain” and not a his ankle “strain”. Bucs tweeted that correction last night.

I don’t really know what it means but I got the impression it could mean he will return sooner rather tuan later. In the meantime we have a couple backup RBs who can fill the role.

I think offensive guard is the biggest area of need, then defensive tackle. At guard wexonly had two backups trying to make the team and one was cut.

  8. RBellBuc Says:

There is no discrimination. All players can participate in the retirement plan. The difference being, because he is on the NFI, Tynes is responsible for paying 100% of his own enrollment, otherwise the Bucs would pickup a percentage of the cost.

Good luck to Tynes with his legal dispute, and career.

The Bucs always get bad press. That’s no big deal and it is something winning will overshadow.

I really doubt this guy is going to get nearly $800k for a year of pension. He’s acting a fool. The Bucs did this in a way that he makes more money and he’s throwing it in their faces. He is probably hoping to get even more money out of them.

If I were the Bucs would sue him for slander and take all that money away from him.

  12. RCS Says:

The Bucs didn’t IR because that would be a form of acceptance of liability. That would be saying that this was a Football related injury that occurred in their care, and it would open them up for a lawsuit.

The fact that he’s getting his salary should be good enough for him. He has no way to prove the team is at fault for his infection. In fact the team could argue that Tynes was the carrier who bought the infection into the facility. Nicks was doing just fine in his rehab until Tynes came along and had his surgery and began to rehab also along side Nicks.

  13. SteveBucsFan Says:

How do we know Caughlin didn’t send Tynes to Tampa with MRSA? I bet he was trying to retaliate for Schiano busting his kneel down play.

  14. Tampamac Says:

    Bonzai,

I kind of left that statement vague.. I not in the we HAVE to sign another TE club. Just kind of a preemptive post for that segment before they start asking who’s available. At guard, I think they feel comfortable with Meredith, Carimi and Larsen. Three guys with pretty good playing experience. DT, we’ll see how the first couple of games go.

  15. RBellBuc Says:

    Hahaha Steve .. lol

  16. GulfCoast Says:

All I can recall is him missing easy kicks and field goals this offseason. Maybe all his butt hurt is an attempt to get paid considering he may not have even made the team.

  18. lightningbuc Says:

    Joe,

Had you ever heard any rumblings of the trainer, Toriscelli, having an infection?

  19. bucrightoff Says:

Seeing as only he and one other guy got infected, I’m guessing he is the source of the outbreak. His wife is also insanely annoying so he’s likely not happy to have to be Mr. Amanda Tynes for the foreseeable future.

And someone said it but there’s no doubt that $800,000 to not play is worth more than a year of the pension.

The Tynes are still running there mouth? I wouldn’t expect anything less than such classy individuals. Thats our #Bucs Life.

  22. crazy Says:

Tynes appears to imply the team trainer may have been patient zero since he is alleged to be dealing with a 4 month old infection that apparently predates the Tynes/Nicks infections.

  23. PewterPirate Says:

The Bucs would have put him on IR if doing so wasn’t considered an admission of guilt opening them up for a lawsuit. In my mind the Bucs are doing the right thing by paying Tynes salary even though they don’t have to. There is no way to determine where the MRSA started so good luck to Tynes trying to prove it.

  24. TAC Says:

Armando Menace the twitterer’, and kicker sammich maker.

From the Carlos Danger name generator.

Someone should check the security cameras to see if the line wasn’t Taylor Swift’ed be a menace. Lucky only Nicks got infected.

I never thought of the Coughlin connection. They could also be after Josh, and Tynes kicked Nicks by accident.

This could be a ploy to injure Josh, forcing dirty sanchez on the bucs.

    @MaxMad–

Frankly, if I were making $800,000 (or more) a year using my feet, I wouldn’t cut my toenails, I would let a professional do it in a heartbeat…why take a chance on something you do not specialize in screwing up your career (as it has for this guy)? Besides, what would it cost to get a pedicure, maybe, MAYBE $100?

The guys got an ingrown toenail which would be brone to bacteria and infection. And his wife’s mouth is big enough to trap every infection known to modern medicine.

Keep your toes out your wife’s bacteria trap, Tynes!

    $800,000 for a 36 year old NFL player…who won’t play a single snap?? smh.

  36. AmbushBuc Says:

@ambushBuc – Joe already linked to this story.

  37. crazy Says:

@BuccaneerBonzai – See the FoxSports article Joe referenced in the opening paragraph:

“Tynes wouldn’t reveal the full details of how he believes he contracted the infection but said, “The individuals that have tested positive for staph or MRSA, we feel very strongly about where it came from.

Asked about a report the team’s trainer, Todd Toriscelli, is dealing with MRSA, Tynes merely replied, “I’m not a doctor. I just feel bad he’s been dealing with a serious infection of some sort for the past four months.”

Why the reporter asked Tynes about the trainer and why Tynes responded the way he did is anyone’s guess. My guess is he has his own suspicions but lacks the medical results to back it up. The implication that reporters ought to dig further seems reasonably clear.

  38. Andrew 1 Says:

so it looks like he’s implying that he got the infection from our trainer. just pay the guy and get rid of him.

  39. BigMacAttack Says:

Bucs Docs should have looked at his feet before they signed him. Kicker with an ingrown toenail would be pretty obvious. MRSA can be easily contracted in a Hospital where the surgery was performed. I don’t see a way that Tynes can prove his case. MRSA is wierd thing and can be misdiagnosed too. When in doubt, call it MRSA. If I were the Bucs I would review the contract and if paying him is not mandatory, I would refrain from doing so. Spend Tynes’ salary on your legal team and As usual, “no good deed goes unpunished”.

  41. PRBucFan Says:

I’m glad he found his balls and started to actually act like the man in the relationship.

SmH at having his wife fight his battles.

All that being said, they have no proof, for all we know he was patient zero..

  42. tonytwocents Says:

I would respect Tynes’ stance if he REFUSED the Bucs’ money, and opted to play this out in court and/or with the NFLPA. that would have been a louder statement than anything he said to Fox Sports.

But his wife making him pose with his I.V. on her twitter page, and then accepting the Glazers’ money, THEN slandering the organization without any details or proof…. he can suck his wife’s d!ck.

And if he wants to take the Glazers’ to court…good luck. The entire city of Manchester England tried to take on the Glazers but failed.

Anyways, 1 more week till KICKoff!

  44. Matt Says:

Tim wright is pretty good . He is from Rutgers 6 ft 4 225
A former good wide receiver . Since he was recruited to be receiver and play that position in college i would think his skills and exp. running routes and catching passes in traffic should be fairly high. Now as we all know the TE position is normally a big bulky strength guy that can block catch passes tds etc. i think tim wright can be that guy . He looked good in preseason run blocking for Leonard james and Hillis . I think he did better than stocker for sure . If he can its get stronger rapidly fast over his nfl career he could be one of the best. He has a good vertical for a guy his size too 36 in is quite high . He also ran a 4.6 at his pro day thats faster then some cornerbacks in the league .
Give this kid a chance he is strong too benches his own weight 19 x . Lot of people seemed to overlook him idk why ! I guess because people do not judge individual performances . Stats do not make a person bad

Just curious. Exactly how long was he with the team? Because it sure sounds like he had it when he came.
