“They Drive Me Absolutely Nuts”

August 28th, 2013

In a rare step outside his usual laid-back, even-keeled commentary on all things Bucs, Josh Freeman offered up a little gem this afternoon when talking about the dropped passes that have plagued the Bucs throughout the preseason.

“They drive me absolutely nuts,” Freeman said.

Make no mistake, Freeman wasn’t making a big deal out of the drops or making excuses. He got a question about drops, as well as those about the negative perception of his play. And Freeman first said he has complete confidence in the stud receivers around him.

But Freeman is human, and he’s got fire in him, even if fans don’t see it on camera. The drops should drive Freeman nuts. They’ve been a significant factor in the criticism against the franchise quarterback this month. (You can listen to the full audio below, via Joe’s partners at WDAE-AM 620.)

I’m a firm believer in QB and WR taking immediate responsibility in drops\passes. One can do so my a simple pat on their own chest. It’s an acknowledgement to the other that, “yeah, I f’ed up – my bad”.

I don’t see it enough – on any team.

  2. buc4lyfe Says:

josh im sure they get equally frustrated when you throw behind them or too high for a 6’5 wideout especially across the middle trying to get them killed but i love it, i wanna hear more accountability for bad play now that we have so many probowl veteran players. we need some swagger like josh doing cam newtons superman theme against him when we throw a td…i want more attitude and fight, if schiano is such an a-hole then why arent the players taking on his personality, they dont talk like a team that expects to win a superbowl, i hate all the humble talk…we need a cocky warren sapp type player again

  3. GRIF4FREESUX Says:

I don’t know where everyone is getting 4 dropped passes on freeman,I only saw 2,guess it’s just the freemanites trying to help out their boyfriend. We all know that v.jax. and mike will are just fine no worries there, free(wo)man on the other hand is terrible, nothing more than a serviceable backup at best. You will all see the truth soon. Then it’s time to man up and eat crow or run and hide like little freemanites.W’ell definitely be talking facts after the bye week.

  4. McBuc Says:

    Relax griff.

  5. buc4lyfe Says:

that sounds crazy dude…you sound like someone saying everyone in the nfl has a probowl qb except bucs…why isnt anyone calling rg3 injury prone considering the shots he takes, he could end up being mike vick in the end for all we know. mark sanchez proved that you can be horrible and still make it deep in the playoffs. if josh was that bad i think they would have drafted another qb or signed a vet after 4 years. he is a starter not a probowler and not a bottom feeder like sanchez or gabbert…cam newton hasnt done much since his rookie season he’s exciting but not a elite qb so says his winning %, qb league….yea right tell that to christian ponder who made it to the playoffs, regardless of why they got there but he didnt have hall of fame number either…no more espn for you

  6. BUCSLEGENDS Says:

No more espn for you…, NOW THATS FUNNY !!!!!!!

  7. Andrew 1 Says:

Im sure they drive every QB nuts.

  8. chris Says:

Just thought of something with some déjà vu. Last time a Barber retired he criticized eli manning and he took them to a Super Bowl.

While ronde was more professional saying freeman cannot carry our offense, could we see the same response from Josh Freeman? I sure hope so.

  9. RBellBuc Says:

I don’t think I’ve ever seen an angry emotion on Frees face. Like they say, It’s those quiet somber type guys you never want to piss off. I would love to see the angry come out one time with Free. Just to see how he responds. Would he turn into a raging homicidal maniac, and lose self control, or would he be relentless, and focused, …an elite quarterback? …lol

On second thought, forget that.. Free is a good guy! Stay that way!

  10. buc4lyfe Says:

HATE FREEMAN OR LOVE HIM…..WHY PEOPLE WANT HIM TO FAIL WHICH MEANS WE WILL FAIL, WANNA CATCH LIGHTNING IN A BOTTLE LIKE REDSKINS, COLTS AND SEAHAWKS? GLENNON IS NOT THAT DUDE AND FREEMAN HATERS ARE DREAMING. GONNA SAY IT AGAIN FOR THE CHEAP SEATS…FREEMAN HAD ACCORDING TO FANS A HORRIBLE YEAR, DREW BREES HAD A HALL OF FAME YEAR, CAM NEWTON IS SUPPOSED TO BE A STUD BUT FINISHED WITH THE SAME RECORD…THIS IS DISRECTFUL, WE HAVE THE BEST DEFENSE IN THE DIVISION NOW, ATLANTA HAS NO PASS RUSH, SAINTS DIDNT HAVE ONE EITHER BUT. PANTHERS DB’S SUCK LIKE OURS DID BUT EVERYONE THINKS HIGHLY OF THOSE QB’S SO THEY ARE FOOLISHLY OVERLOOKING US. YEA PATRIOTS HAVE TOM BRADY BUT I’M SURE THEIR TIRED OF GETTING TO THE SUPERBOWL AND LOSING, THEIR TIME IS RUNNING OUT JUST LIKE PEYTON MANNING AND ALL PRO DEFENSE DID

Good for Freeman, I love this kind of stuff, step up show us the leader that you have become/are becoming and show some humility.

This should drive Freeman nuts, I love to hear that.

Now, the “absolutely drives me nuts” approach needs to work itself out of accuracy drills. Meet these guys half way.

I completely understand not changing his mechanics, but there must be some drills or something that can help Freeman advance.

Go Josh, put this offense on your back and let’s roll all the way to the post season.

I am happy to hear there is some fire from #5. This is a let your balls hang out kind of year, and I am elated to see this guy come out wrecking shop on the J-E-S-T JEST JEST JEST!

Geno should get to know Clayborn pretty well, and if Sanchez goes, then we will to do as Sapp and Steve White say, “pin your ears’ back and hunt”- Sapp, and “Fu*king stop stunting!”- Steve White in so many words.

We need to come out smelling blood, playing clean, and punshing teams. No more pussy-footing around, from the top down.

Dominick needs to get us a DB for depth, and a DL or two. Maybe even an O-Lineman. Our guys are either unproven or unhealthy at those positions, and 16 games is one helluva grind. Dominick screws the pooch if he neglects to gain depth for this team.

Hell, the Rays picked up a 4.5 million option on DeJesus, we should surely drop a “1 year $5 million dollar Michael Bennett deal” on BPA- OL, DL,DB,TE.

This needs to be a year that absolutely taken seriously. Time to step up and prove some things. Freeman can be one rich mother fu*ker if he pulls a Flacco.

Go get Joe Money, Josh, you can do it!

  13. SteveK Says:

    Buc1987,

^ Does that make me a Josh supporter yet?

He needs to prove it, but I will believe in that sumb!tch as long as he is in there.

  14. SteveK Says:

    Chris,

Ronde is .001% the douccebagger his brother is. Left his twin prego wife for a CBS intern. He also was cool enough to argue back with Sapp about Strahan vs. Simeon Rice.

However, as much as I love Ronde Barber, winning the super bowl would be absolutely NUTS. I might place a bet down, just in hopes of deja voodoo.

  15. SteveK Says:

Personally, I could care less as to “who” physically makes the mistake on any given play. It is a “team game”, as we like to put it, and the blame shall be shared.

As the team’s QB, you are a leader. Head Coaches take the blame for players not performing. We have gotten a new coach. General Managers are tasked with assembling a competitive team. Our General Manager has done a fine job of acquiring talent, we need healthy players asap and it has hurt the team.

Next, Freeman needs to step up. As Joe likes to quote Raheem. “I like you until I can replace you”, or something along those lines. Nothing personal, Freeman seems like a great dude, but this team may need a shakeup if the losing continues.

We have ownership backing this team, time to show them that the non-spending years were well sacrificed. It just needs to happen, no excuses. Schiano is the for the job, and I hope not to see my team attacking the victory formation unless it is appropriate.

Schiano did some stuff that should be left in college, now for us to see how he has taken his game up another notch to go with the talent.

Shawn King mentions that Dominick and Schiano “do not have a plan”. We will see who gets the last laugh. 2013 is a capable year for us to make some noise. We need to be active in Free Agency after roster cuts and be willing to pay for ample insurance policies.

  16. Buc1987 Says:

LOL Steve LOL…The other day in here I was mentioning the fans on JBF that are going into this season with positive and optimistic thinking. Yours was one of them buddy.

  17. Buc1987 Says:

The other day there was someone in here that asked this question remember who it was but they typed it in all caps to prove a point I guess. It went something like this. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME FANS WALKED INTO RJS THINKING YAH WERE GOING TO KICK THIS TEAM AS*?

Now I forgot to answer him. It was an easy answer for me too. The answer is NEVER. There was never a time, Bucs fans know that 95% of the time our games come down to the wire on the edge of our seats biting nails. That’s the way it’s always been. No matter what year or decade or how good our teams looked. Someone please tell me if I’m wrong or they have ever went into a game or watched our team thinking were going to kick their as*. Well outside of the SB I guess. I figured we would kick the Raiders as* jst because of Gruden alone, but I never talked about it in fear that it would jinx my team of something I waited so long to see.

  18. SteveK Says:

One time, when going to the Big Sombrero, we beat the Bears. Someone put windshield paint on their car, “Da Bears. Dey Suck”. It was priceless. We went on to win the game, my dad, brother and I were seated in enemy territory. We won the game, and the Bears fans were super pissed.

I also saw Barry Sanders run all over the Bucs and some Detroit fan with a mullet was going around popping balloons with his cigarrette. He ended up getting his ass beat by some Buc fans. Justice was served.

To answer your question, 2000-2002 was the time where we were blessed with an all-time great defense, with a HOF player on every level: Sapp, Brooks, Ronde, Lynch, and maybe one day Rice. We were stacked, and it didn’t matter if Baby Hands King was dropping back and dropping the ball, we were winning some damn games.

I hope the defense can back to something special. The rule changes have made the game much more advantageous for offense, specifically throwing the football. QB play effects the game, now, more so than ever.

  19. Bucnjim Says:

    Steve,
    Holy Crap great post!

    1987,
Good point…..Since the Bucs have always been a defensive team games were much closer than they should have been.

  20. Buc1987 Says:

Most of the arguments between us fans on JBF all summer long has been about whether or not Freeman is going to suck this year.

LUVMYBUCS asked a question last night. What started all this infighting, buc fan against buc fan on JBF? Well buddy the answer is Josh Freeman.

Most of us agree about the rest of team the majority of the time. Outside of Buc_Realist who will tell you he hates about 85% of the team.

So blame Josh for the fighting that goes on in here. 11 more days people. It’s almost here and we can begin our journey to finding out whose right and who’s wrong about Josh. For every fans sake, I hope me and the Freemanites (the popular term for us on jbf) are right, because if we are right. This team is going to take off. If your a fan of the Bucs you better hope that we are right. Not saying that you have to agree with us, let’s not get into that again. We know who you doubters are, and you know who we are. There is no need to keep the debate going any longer. On Sept 8th starting at 1 PM I will be holding my breath every time he drops back to pass.

  21. Buc1987 Says:

Yes Steve but the games were no gimme’s they always went down to the wire most of the time, because the offense was so bad.

I hate listening to Freeman talk nowadays. It’s like his lips are moving but you just can’t hear anything substantial.

  25. Buc1987 Says:

    @MadMax

My name is not buc n junkie a-hole. Why don’t you scroll down that thread where I explain to Steve that he does not belong on that list?

  26. Buc1987 Says:

Lets not forget about this then http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20O5gtEM_Zo

  27. MadMax Says:

I didnt say your name was bucnjunkie, I posted your response to him….then Steve and some others pitched their case on how they thought they shouldnt be on that list….but its funny how you ran with it anyway, rah rah rah style.

By the way, where is that pos? Did I scare him off or something?

  28. Buc1987 Says:

I don’t know where he is? Prolly got sick of all the negativity on the site. Like a lot of people have. Most positive fans have disappeared over the summer. SteveK knows what I think about him when it comes to Freeman, that’s all that matters to me anyways. I am pretty sure Steve remembers me saying on that thread that he does not belong on that list though. Because most of the time even if he does get slightly negative SteveK always follows up with, he expects the Bucs to make it to the playoffs, and that to me is not negative at all.

  29. Buc1987 Says:

    Oh here it is :
“@Stevek…I’m sorry that you were dropped on Junkie’s list. I don’t see all that much negative stuff come from you except for when it comes to JF. A lot of times you mention how your looking forward to the season, and really just want Freeman to prove you wrong. Perhaps Junkie can explain to you why he put down there.”

Go Junkie Go Junkie…it’s yer birthday. rah rah rah stuff. Yeah I said that because I can’t believe he actually put down a list of people like that. I think that was one of his last posts too. So yep it prolly was because he realized how much negative crap was being said about the team he loves on a daily basis on jbf. Me, meh I came close too, but I’m marching on. WestCoast and Walter have cut their posts to about 90% less than they used to for the very same reason.

“If Freeman plays like he did tonight in the regular season, real games and stays that way through the first 4 games. I’m on board for benching him myself

Yep and I still stand by that. What it means is I’m not going to bash him all summer long until I atleast see him play the 1 regular season game, hell atleast 4 games for that matter. I’m for what’s good for the team. I hardly call anything that I typed negative.

You want to really see negative and contradiction.

    Mad Max says :
“Ive already given up on him because I saw the same slow decision/indecision on display already….and its just preseason for goodness sakes. Look, Im not fully convinced that Glennon will take us to the playoffs….but my gosh, given the offensive weapons, I think he has a better chance than Josh does….Why? He’s hungry, and he’s a quick study. Yes he’ll make some rook mistakes but how else can we navigate through it, and attempt to correct it, other than allowing him to get his reps.
I didnt see this coming. Josh was on fire in camp, even Joe was bragging about him. So if we must, go to Glennon (which I suspect will be the case soon) and let the chips fall into place. If we stink up the season, we’re in position for Clowney or Bridgewater!
Im not joking folks! Im tired of waiting on Josh to fix what is un-fixable, where the potential has ran its course, and the slow brain is what it is. Like it or not, I dont care. Thats what I see! And any of you F’ers want to F with me for not attempting to blindly share the sniffing duties of Josh’s jock strap can eat jit and kiss my azzz…I wont even respond to you anymore…you cant fix stupid!”

Then 2 days later MadMax says I hope Freeman has a great season I really do. Does this sound like someone that has hope for Freeman or has lost hope in Freeman?

  37. Andrew 1 Says:

lets be real, if your a bucs fan you need to support whoever our starting QB is, and right now its Freeman. fans can criticize him all the want, but once game time rolls around, do you root for him to do well? if your a bucs fan the answer to that question needs to be yes.

  38. Buc1987 Says:

MadMax…I have NEVER claimed that you hate the whole team. Please since your in the copy and paste mood. Find that somewhere on site and paste it.

  39. MadMax Says:

Once again, making my points for me 1987….and once again, notice the placements of the word “IF”…..Of course I hope to see good Josh more than bad Josh, you even said you’d be for Glennon starting after week 4 if the bad Josh is showing up too much. Not much difference!

  40. MadMax Says:

You lumped me in with those haters though, and you did just the other night claim I was pulling for Josh to “suck” so Glennon could go in.

That wasnt the case at all….I, like you, was disappointed in what I was seeing and said since its preseason, why not put Glennon in.

  41. Buc1987 Says:

    Mad Max says :
“Ive already given up on him because I saw the same slow decision/indecision on display already….and its just preseason for goodness sakes.”

  42. Buc1987 Says:

  43. MadMax Says:

Lol, I hope real football comes. soon enough. I just had my fantasy football draft: 12 teams, 1 keeper, #2 pick. My “keeper” was Stevan Ridley in the 8th round. The league is standard scoring, no bonuses, no PPR.

    I ended up with:

    1. Muscle Hamster
    2. CJ2K
    3. Reggie Bush
    4. Hakeem Nicks
    5. Lamar Miller
    6. Matthew Stafford
    7. Mike Wallace
    8. Mike Vick
    9. Jordan Cameron
    10. Josh Gordon
    11. Martellus Bennett
    12. Ravens
    13. Ravens Kicker
    14. Santonio Holmes

  65. GRIF4FREESUX Says:

@buc1987,I heard u and raphael have been tailgating eachother.

  66. Buc1987 Says:

“Buc 1987 aka Inspector Clouseau. Sorry my friend, no relation at all.”

    Okay just 2 fools then.

  67. Touchdown Gus Says:

@Buc4lyfe Sadly we don’t have a pass rush either lol

  68. Free's A Boob Says:

On another note, am I the only one concerned about the lack of a dependable, long range kicker? Not having Barth will greatly change the entire offensive dynamic. Decisions that were automatic inside the 40 will no be questions. I don’t care who the QB is, losing a PK that nails the 50 yarders is a major problem.

  69. SteveK Says:

    One more 1st down, @ Free’s a Boob.

We need to find a way to get that extra 7 or 8 yards for field goals. We can do it.

Martin is ready to unleash the fury.

  70. Stanglassman Says:

Are you saying that you root for the President of the United States to fail in his job if you didn’t vote for him? Really? Please keep posting, they just get better and better. I do hope they’re satire but experience tells me otherwise.

  71. Free's A Boob Says:

Bucs 1987. I tried to explain that differences of opinion and the expression of ideas are the very foundation of our country. Obviously it’s a concept beyond your ken. (It’s a short word, you can Google it)

  72. GRIF4FREESUX Says:

@ Free’s a boob, yes I am concerned about the kicking situation mainly because now we will be counting on#5 to convert some 4th downs Ooops sorry to go back to the primary problem.lol.

  73. Free's A Boob Says:

Stanglassman… really? Did you ever notice that there are many opinion polls inquiring on the approval rating of the President, Governor, etc.? I don’t recall ever seeing a 100% approval rating for anyone.

But in football it should be different? Geez

  74. Touchdown Gus Says:

@frees a boob using your analogy. “Saying if you love the Bucs you have to love Freeman = if you love your country you must love Obama (feel free to use Bush, Clinton, Bush 1, and so on)”
Would you agree that no matter who the president is you hope he does well because he doesn’t we all lose…….same thing here. Frees a boob you are honestly the person I have a problem with the most on this site. I question you being a bucs fan because at every chance your ready to completely disrespect the man. Being critical of him is one thing but your down right disrespectful. Some of your comments have nothing to do with Freeman as a football player. I have never once seen you say anything positive about the team, you all about bashing(not to be confused with criticizing) Freeman. Where were you when Freeman was playing lights up, not a single post. I’m calling you out and saying right now you can’t be a buccaneer fan

For all us real fans, not freeman supports, not freeman bashers, but buccaneer fans all I can say is I can’t wait for the 8th!

  75. GRIF4FREESUX Says:

@ SteveK,I HOPE YOU’RE RIGHT about Martin but our opponents know that all they have 2 do is put 8 in the box to stop the run and dare freeman 2 beat them.U have 2 be able to throw 2 run the ball just the same as vise versa.

  76. Couch Fan Says:

LOL BucFan, I dont give a rat’s @$$ about where I fall on your idiotic list.

  77. Free's A Boob Says:

SteveK. I hope you are correct but not many coaches will go for a 4th and 4 outside the 30 on a regular basis. That’s why Barth was so important.

  78. Free's A Boob Says:

Touchdown Gus.. I have been in the stands for every game the last 8 years and gone to at least one road game each of those years.

  79. Free's A Boob Says:

One last note before I sign off. Is Joe always 100% positive on the Bucs? The Tribune? The Times? Never a boo in the stadium?

  80. Touchdown Gus Says:

@free’s a boob going to the game and rooting for your team are two different things. Your not proving your fan hood when your basically hoping the team fails.

  81. Buc1987 Says:

Couch Fan…and I could care less about your idiotic negative opinions.

  82. Buc1987 Says:

“Touchdown Gus.. I have been in the stands for every game the last 8 years and gone to at least one road game each of those years.”

That right there is flat out BS!

  83. Couch Fan Says:

Tough cuz im gonna be given em every day bwahahaha. Keep your head in the sand, its safer down there.

  84. MadMax Says:

    Bottom line:

Freeman rights this ship with excellent QB play (and quick decision making), along with excellent play calling from ALL Coaches….the receivers follow course and DO NOT drop passes, our D-Backs get it done in coverage to improve on our suck-azzz situation from last year, and our heavily invested D pass rush (looking at you Bowers and Clayborn), better do whats expected of them!!!!

Yes our O-line is in question a little, but I trust Bostad! (Please tell Freeman to stay in the pocket and stop stepping up too)

To everyone else, MAKE ME TRUST YOU! YOU TOO SCHIANO/SHERIDAN!!!!

  85. MadMax Says:

    BUTCH DAVIS TOO!

  86. RBellBuc Says:

    “heads are gonna roll.” ….. lol … 🙂 ^^^^^

  87. MadMax Says:

I didnt say heads are gonna roll….dont put words in my mouth!

  88. RBellBuc Says:

So sorry, Did i offend you? Your demands reminded me of that guy Joe talked about on his twitter account. 🙁

  89. MadMax Says:

Me offended by you… here? lol. Once again I was speaking my opinion. Maybe I offended you.
