Greg Schiano Sounded Down

August 17th, 2013

The leader of the New Schiano Order was on the Buccaneers Radio Network at halftime last night and very simply stated that his Bucs didn’t play well.

After the 25-21 loss to the Patriots, which included a roasting of the Bucs’ first-team defense and a grounding of the first-team offense, Schiano was even more subdued.

“We competed in the second half, and that was important,” Schiano said.

It’s great to compete, but Joe would expect that from every NFL team. Expectations for the Bucs are much higher.

“We made too many mistakes tonight,” Schiano said. “And I don’t know, you know, if it’s fatigue, or what it was. But we did make mistakes. We gotta get that fixed. Now we played against a good football team, too. So, you know, sometime they can put a little pressure on you. But we need to make sure we do our job. And then if you get licked by, you know, a really good player or a really good team, you get licked. Sometimes that happens. But mistakes, we can’t, you know you can’t judge the quality if you’re making mistakes. We’ll get that cleaned up.”

Schiano did offer specific praise for rookie running back Mike James. “Mike, especially, made some people miss.”

    We know the feeling coach.

  2. Macabee Says:

You gotta get’m on the field first, coach!

  3. knucknbuc Says:

You guys are far too easy on Rutgers we blame josh freemaN the oline the dline bill Sheridan but never this coaches garbage ass college scheme he runs or himself for this team looking unprepared and outcoached week to week. Rutgers was given way more then raheem was ever given but Mr Rutgers here gets a pass. If he doesn’t have at least an 8-8 record this year with the talent this team has then he should be on a huge hotseat.

  4. Jim Says:

One of the worst games I have ever watched! There is no sense of urgency on offense. How long is it going to take the coaching staff to realize, Freeman must operate out of the shot gun? I would love to know his passer rating from under center vs the shotgun. Last night Brady used the shot gun on first downs and the also had success running the ball when using the gun. I don’t buy the Bucs did not want to show their hand because they play the Pats again early in the season. It does not look like the Pats were holding back. Looking back on the one good season had, much of his success was when he rolled out. While Freeman is far from being a franchise QB, some of this problems are a result of coaching & game plans.

  5. Doc Says:

Coach, you can judge your team by how they play against top tier talent. True player’s raise to the occasion and some just go through the motion. Coach we got some players that are afraid of you to include your quarterback.

  6. Architek79 Says:

Starts with the head and look no further than the hapless Freeman. He’s back into inconsistent form.

Mason Foster looks lost in coverage.

  7. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

    IT’s only preseason.

  8. Mr Lucky Says:

Scotty we KNOW it’s only preseason, but sucking is sucking and in THAT category the Bucs have definetly progressed.

  9. Kryq Says:

If we bomb this year horrible this year, we need to get rid of the whole coaching staff including GM Mark Dominick, our drafts have been ok at best.

  10. Mike J Says:

Some of the mistakes were on the coaching staff; they did not adjust well to the Pats’ up-tempo offensive plan.

  11. L bucs fan Says:

It’s funny how Shiano gets a pass and you guys roasted Raheem. Double standard!

  12. 321BucFan Says:

Coach, thought we were supposed to be a good football team? If not, what are we doing ? Why wouldn’t you say “we are a great football team and I appoligize to all the Buc fans out there for that showing, its not the team you will see on opening day ! ” Let’s go out there and dominate ! GoBucs !

  13. Couch Fan Says:

With the exception of the 1st team offense being horrible and that first drive for Brady (in which the commentators even said the defense was covering well but theres no defense for perfect throws… Brady was on fire) The game wasn’t that bad.

Everybody I think is over reacting mostly to how bad the 1st team offense was. I was in that boat to. I was furious and quite frankly disappointed in all of them… but the rest of the game was pretty contested.

We got to remember this is only pre-season. A LOT of our good players havent even took the field yet. This is not a finished product. Let’s start worrying once these games.

Somebody said we looked “Out coached” well no sh!t! There is very little schemeing going on for pre-season. Relax people.

  14. Couch Fan Says:

It’s funny how Shiano gets a pass and you guys roasted Raheem. Double standard!

    ———————————-

    It’s pre-season you tool!!

What do you expect them to come out with an elaborate scheme on how to be the patriots in pre-season when you know you are facing them again in 5 or 6 weeks?

Some of you just need to keep your traps shut so your stupidity doesnt escape.

  15. Eric Says:

If this is a team of immense talent on the verge of a Super Bowl run they are doing a wonderful job of disguising it.

Looks like a good imitation of those guys that went 1-5 down the stretch last year.

Yeah, I am aware it’s preseason.

I’d like to see Free get in some semblance of a rhythm before the preseason ends. Since he won’t play in week four that leaves next week.

  16. Architek79 Says:

That’s my point Eric. I still see the same Freeman down the stretch. As I stated before its not the point of the here and now (because its preseason) but same tendencies are showing themselves.

  17. SacBucs Says:

He shood sound down with thaat weak sauce coaching from college. The whole team will be tired by mid season. Find a real defensive coordinator. Demote dom to asst. Wateva!

Tell Schiano thi$ the PRO$ that elementry school pop warnerway of coaching aint flying. Bill sheridan defense is suspect.

I wont stress off the bucs ever again until we get a real organization.

Im sick of being the Raiders of the NFC or the wizards of the NBA. I will not spend my money on season tickets until we have a team worth a dam.

Meredith and Carimi looked better at tackles then our starters.

  18. bucrightoff Says:

In preseason they only guys trying are the guys fighting for jobs, because they have something to play for. The starters play for their jobs in the regular season, hence why their effort is better then. Its preseason, people need to remember we could go 0-4 and lose by a combined 100, yet if we start 3-1 will anyone remember?

  19. Morgan Says:

My ticket rep called last week looking for $$$ for 2014 season. Thank goodness that I told him I’m holding off renewing until I see how 2013 goes. Right now, we’ve got the same old end of 2012 team. Disappointed, disgusted so far this preseason. Our franchise QB looks as clueless as he’s ever looked. Right now, this is a crappy team and they have a ton of work to do before the NYJ and Saints games.

  20. Buc1987 Says:

SacBucs…what can YOU do about it?

  21. Buc1987 Says:

ESPN or NFL Network had a timer going every time Freeman dropped back to pass. To see how long he had to throw. Did anyone see THAT? Each time he was sacked the timer was around the 3 second mark. 3 seconds.

  22. BUCSLEGENDS Says:

Bucs (coaches) say they have a plan, everything they do is planned,……. I JUST HOPE IT WORKS !!!!!!! Coaches demeanor worries me some !!!!!!!
