Warren Sapp Takes To TV For Simeon Rice

June 26th, 2013

While Donald Penn may have passed on TV time this morning on NFL Network’s glorified waste of electricity, the dancing-obsessed “NFL AM,” Warren Sapp did not.

No, Sapp wasn’t scheduled to go on NFL AM to discuss his dance moves. Sapp, soon to be inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, appeared last night on “Total Access” — a show that somehow avoids forced dancing talk into each episode — and again, campaigned for his former teammate Simeon Rice to join him in Canton. That continued Sapp’s war of words against former Giants defensive end Michael Strahan.

When asked to comment on intern-loving, former Giants disgruntled running back and fallen media mogul Tiki Barber’s statement that Sapp is “an idiot” for mocking Strahan, Sapp tried to dodge it, but when pressed, he came out firing like only Sapp can.

The Giants “drafted Michael Strahan to replace the great Lawrence Taylor on the right side and he averaged four sacks a year [at right end],” Sapp said. Strahan had 128 sacks and “Simeon Rice had 122 and had never been moved.

“The only Tiki I want to talk about is at the Postcard Inn.”

Joe thinks Sapp makes a great point. Rice nearly had as many sacks as Strahan and neither the Cardinals, who drafted Rice, nor the Bucs had to find a position for him to excel. Rice dominated at right defensive end.

Joe fears Rice will go down in NFL history as the L.C. Greenwood of his day: a ferocious pass rusher who was the odd man out with so many teammates getting into Canton.

And Joe believes there will be three more of Sapp’s former teammates who will reach Canton.

    Barber, Lynch and Brooks?

  2. mike Says:

rice was a hall of famer for about 5 years of his 10 yr career. Lee Roy selmons was a hall of famer every year and every snap of his career. Big difference. Rice was not good enough but played well for the new york sentinals.

  3. buCncRazy Says:

Mr. Rice looks like Deacon Jones in that pic. Rice had alot more Impact sacks/plays. The Bucs never ran a scheme for Rice either, the giants D was schemed for Stray to get sacks.

  4. mike Says:

Rice was not much of a run stopper. A great player , but not a HOFer. The 99 d was equal or close to the 02 D with Rice

  5. stevek Says:

Strahan and Rice are just about the “same” player, and I think Rice did MORE with LESS snaps.

Tough to tell, but I can see Simeon Rice in the Hall of Fame one day.

  6. lightningbuc Says:

Strahan has to be laughing his ass off at Warren the buffoon. It is estimated Strahan makes between $10-15 million a year to sit next to Kelly Ripa for one hour a day, while Warren is selling Super Bowl rings to make child support to his 5 baby mamas.

  7. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Simeon Rice played with two of the most dominate DT’s of the last 25yrs. Warren Sapp & Eric Swann. Men who demanded a double, even triple team at times.

  8. Sneedy16 Says:

    @mike

Get your facts straight it was more than 5 years.
    Rice:
    2005 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 14.0 sacks, 6ff, 1int
    2004 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 12.0 sacks, 1ff
    2003 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 15.0 sacks, 6ff, 2int
    2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 15.5 sacks, 6ff, 1int
    2001 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 11.0 sacks, 2ff
    2000 Arizona Cardinals 7.5 sacks
    1999 Arizona Cardinals 16.5 sacks
    1998 Arizona Cardinals 10.0 sacks,
    1996 Arizona Cardinals 12.5 sacks,

    Strahan,
    2007 New York Giants 9.0 sacks 1ff
    2005 New York Giants 11.5 sacks 1ff
    2003 New York Giants 18.5 sacks, 3ff
    2002 New York Giants 11.0 sacks, 2ff
    2001 New York Giants 22.5 sacks, 6ff
2000 New York Giants 9.5 sacks,
    1998 New York Giants 15.0 sacks, 1int
1997 New York Giants 14.0 sacks
    1995 New York Giants 7.5 sacks 2int

I left out the seasons where there were 5 or less sacks.

Their career are comparable. It just that Michael played for a big market team.

  9. Tim Says:

The biggest differences are simply the markets the they played in and position.
Right DE’s are the premier ends, they go against teams premier blockers at the RT position. Was Strahan a stud Left DE? Yes, but he was a left end not a right end. Sapp’s point.

  10. J 2.0 Says:

Brooks, Lynch, and Barber are probably the 3 Joe is referring to. I think Rice and Alstott should also be in there as well, but that is just me.

  11. Buc1987 Says:

Gee wilikers Joe…NFL AM is one of my favorite shows on TV.

  12. ScottB Says:

If anything, Sapp’s comments are hurting Strahan’s chances of getting in the HOF.

  13. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Reggie White was moved to the left side. I guess he wasn’t very good. Just stop it already Warren. Simeon was great, so was Strahan. They both should get in, but there is no way in hell Strahan doesn’t get in.

  14. Chris Says:

In the biggest stage….the Super Bowl. Rice was unblockable. A force….dominate….Strahan…..good career…..but dominate?

  15. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Chris,

22.5 sacks in a season is the very definition of dominating. Give me a break.

  16. Joe Says:

    1987:

Gee wilikers Joe…NFL AM is one of my favorite shows on TV.

It has potential to be very good. Sadly, its dedication virtually each day to non-football tripe like dancing is not just mind-boggling, but chases Joe away in frustration. You can tell they do this to keep that chick interested, otherwise, you could have a rock sitting on the couch with as much insight and personality.

(At least Molly Qerim knows football).

Sad to say, but “Quick Pitch” on MLB Network at the same time blows NFL AM away.

  17. SacBucs Says:

Once upon a time in a League far away. There was a player named Simeon Rice. When they told him he was to tall to play linebacker or to light to play in the trenchies he excelled.

To make this story short..Have you guys been sleep under a rock or something.

He should go to the HOF jus because he became the prototye passrusher that everybody and they momma wanted to draft after he rip the league up.

    Aldon Smith
    Jason PP
Etc…Not gonna name no more you smart enough to know!

    Older version
    Jevon Krease
    John Abraham

See my point Simeon should have a fricking statue for the prototype passrusher.

Once upon a time in a league far away. There came a player named Simeon Rice. They told him he was to light to play on the line.

Play time is over boys & girls! Yall on crack!

Rice should have a statue just for being the prototype passrusher when the league had never seen the likes of his talents.

    Jevon Krease
    Jason Taylor
    John Abraham

    Nowadays

    Jason PP
    Aldon Smith
    Cameron Wake

So on and so forth..They are all Clones Of What The Super Simeon has created.

    Hate on that!
