Dave Wannstedt Instrumental In Revis Trade

April 21st, 2013

Bucs special teams coach Dave Wannstedt, who was Darrelle Revis’ college coach at Pittsburgh, played a key role in the Bucs’ decision to land the star Jets cornerback.

As Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik likes to say, he and his staff did their due diligence in acquiring Jets star cornerback Darrelle Revis. “Due diligence” meaning research.

It just happened that someone who knows Revis better than most people just happens to have an office at One Buc Palace. That’s special teams coach Dave Wannstedt.

You see, Wannstedt was Revis’ coach at Pittsburgh. Wannstedt had known Revis for years, knew him as a high school kid, knew his family, spent time in Revis’ boyhood home, and helped transform Revis from a young man into an adult.

Wannstedt, Joe learned today, just raved about Revis the person, not just Revis the player. Partially armed with this information from Wannstedt, it convinced the Bucs to put on a full-court press to obtain Revis.

Did you read the article? Are you that stupid?

Just when I was warming up to the trade I find out Wannstedt is involved. Everything the man touches is a disaster, most recently the bills defense.

Great article. Always good to have strong relationships between the coaching staff and players.

  7. Dave Says:

Eric, actually most things he has done has been pretty succesful except as HC in the NFL.

  8. Eric Says:

    Wannstedt has been pretty successful?

    At what?

  9. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Yep…I smell a quid pro quo here for hiring Wannstedt as special teams coach earlier this offseason.

Is anyone naive enough to believe that Wannstedt wasn’t hired with this very scenario in mind? If you do then I have some property in the Everglades I need to offload.

This is exactly how big business is done. Seen it a hundred times if I’ve seen it once. Very, very smartly played by Dominik, Schiano & company.

Wannstedt was a very good DC for the Cowboys and a Very good HC at Pittsburgh… Miami and Chicago not so much

I don’t care what anyone says. No cornerback is worth 16 million period end of story especially in this years cb market.

He is earning double what he is actually worth.

This was a total panic move. Revis will not put seats in the stands.

With our defensive line he will be exposed. Mark it down.

Between the money he is to earn and the draft picks we lost, the situation could have been managed a lot more efficiently.

A desperate GM making a desperate decision. We are no better today with Revis and his 16 million then we were without him.

Without a pass rush you don’t stand a chance .

^Candidate for dumbest post of the day. The ignorance is amazing.

  13. Raphael Says:

    Lol@ Marques.

  14. Eric Says:

So for nfl success were going back to early 90’s for the dude?

  15. marques Says:

Smart I like. smart ass …not so much.

Look at the past superbowl winners and finalists.

Look at the Pats, the Steelers, the 49er’s, the Ravens

Look at all the favorites to win it next year. NONE I repeat NONE have a corner making even 10 million year let alone 16.

I have never said Revis WAS not great. I said with our defensive line and his bad wheel. He will be exposed.

Are you telling me you know more then the rest of the NFL ? There is a reason why we were the only team the Jets were dealing with.

^^^^who is this giy? What huge risk, what draft picks? We gave up 1 draft pick, 1 next years third doesnt count its a crapt pick, we aquired the best Cb in the league with a single first rounder, ps NO ONE WOUKD DO WHAT HE DOES AT PUXK 13 hell Millner WONT be available for training camo, Revis will, and uour upset about money?

  17. Buc'N'iT Says:

Yoi do not know what your talking about 16 mil with Zero gauranteed is nothing for.him I would rather pay Revis 16 thrn Mario WILLIAMS and he geys 50 mil no matter what? Ask yourself who does more, the guy who will guard WHITE, JONES, STEVE SMITH, COLOSTON among others,

  18. Buc'N'iT Says:

You forget we have a solid D line, we have 3 former first rounders on our line and you saying it needs.more help? Uou truely have no idea what yoir talking about

  19. Marques Says:

Its been what 6 hours since your posts., yet you still have not provided one name of any cb who was paid 10 million like I asked anyone to.

Thats because no superbowl winner or finalist pays that kind of money for CB’S.

You pay that kind of money for QB’s.

Our d-line consist of 3 guys who have been out for at least one year each sometme in ther pro career. Thee is zero depth.
