Recruitment Over; Goldson, Bucs Focus On $$$

March 13th, 2013

It seems that the hard sell of Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik and Bucs coach Greg Schiano on coveted free agent safety Dashon Goldson has worked. So far.

After flying Goldson to Tampa Bay on a private, swanky jet chartered by Team Glazer last night, and a morning full of recruiting by Dominik and Schiano, the first stage seems to be a success.

Now, it’s time to talk turkey, as in dollars and cents, so Twittered Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune.

@RCummingsTBO: FA S Dashon Goldson’s visit with the Bucs has moved into the contract negotiating stage, per agent Ben Dogra. A deal may be next.

This, obviously, is a good sign. Perhaps by the end of business today, the Bucs may have a new starting safety?

Leave it to a former college coach like Schiano to be able to sell his program. Joe is geeked.

yesssiiirrr – excited to have him and Barron roaming the secondary

  2. NJBucsFan Says:

Barron and Goldson….oh boy!!!! Some hard hits coming

  3. Orlandobucfan Says:

Those two safeties will be feared. Two safeties that seem to love to hit.

  4. T in Orlando Says:

Let’s do this. Then walk away from the table for Revis, and bring in Sean Smith and Derek Cox.

  5. Erick Says:

Finally, a refreshed page with some good news!

  6. @eric Says:

One stud down, two more to go…………Cox, DRC, Cason, Nahmdi,….Just don’t over spend on Revis.

  7. Architek Says:

This is a must-do. Barron and Gholson is a tandem from heaven.

  8. Jason A Says:

Agree with orlando but will not get excited until he signs the dotted line…pick up avril too but i might be thinking too high with a Goldson, Smith, Cox, and Avril pick up

  9. flmike Says:

Might as well make it a twofer and get the Grimes deal as well, Goldson and Grimes share the same agent.

  10. Bobby C Says:

DO NOT LET HIM LEAVE WITHOUT A CONTRACT IN HAND

  11. Snook Says:

Won’t get too excited until he’s signed.

But the thought of him and Barron together is pretty sick.

  12. J 2.0 Says:

    Get it done Rock Star!

Also it is Goldson. Not Gholson, Golston, Golson. If he is going to be on the team, start getting his name right fans. Great reporting Joe.

  13. Warrenfb12 Says:

Either that or the agent is trying to get philly going to up any offer we make.

  14. Pete 422 Says:

C’mon now! get it done! This signing could attract a top CB/CBs.

  15. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Cox has visits lined up with the Saints and Chargers, nothing with the Bucs. Something has changed on that front or else we were misled by inaccurate reporting.

Saints also being visited by Keenan Lewis. Just like a couple years ago when they beat the Bucs out by getting Jabari Greer to visit them first instead of the Bucs, and then didn’t let him leave without a contract, it looks like they’re doing the same thing this year again with Cox and Lewis. The Saints have been a damn thorn in our side when it comes to CB’s.

  16. @MikeInTampa2 Says:

Goldson hits harder than Barron <———— best tandem in NFL

  17. FLBoyInDallas Says:

At least we have the fallback option of keeping Wright if we swing and miss on most of these CB’s. Yay.

  18. cbell96825 Says:

Give this guy the 7.75million he wants and then lets get a corner

  19. buccaroo Says:

    Joe,

Could you elaborate on how a possible Goldson signing affects Ronde Barber’s future, if it all? I would think he is going to retire, but maybe they have plans to move him back to nickel. I don’t really understand why either party is keeping things- hush hush. I doubt it provides them with any leverage in FA Thoughts?

  20. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Why not bring Barber back as a corner then? Surely he can outplay Gorrer…

  21. maxx Says:

SWEET!!! Finally…let’s leave Revis alone now and concentrate on a badass TE and CB!

  22. Buc'N'iT Says:

Truelly felt this would happen last night, but this afternoon is just as good. Curiouse though why Dom is only at one at a time kinda pace,

  23. Joe Says:

Well, Dominik isn’t paying monster money to Goldson to sit on the bench. Mark Barron isn’t going to sit on the bench either.

If Barber returns, he won’t be starting. Probably a nickelback.

  24. Dave Says:

    SIGN HIM!!!

and go get Leon Washington. He is only 30 and does not appear to have lost a step at all. Great return guy and good backup vet RB… opens the door for a trade of Blount (maybe a 4th or 5th).

I would really like to hear about Sean Smith or Grimes being courted by the Bucs.

  25. Buc'N'iT Says:

@ShuttheBucUp… I don’t believe he would want to
Come back to play that kind if role,

  26. st. louis Bucs fan Says:

sign him to an $8mil/yr deal, that would be like trading Wright for Goldson and i would take that trade any day! then go sign Smith and DRC, we’ll still have room for Washington. then draft TE Tyler Eifert, we need a big pass catching TE (like the Saints and Falcons have) to create more room for Douggie Fresh!!! thats my wish list. hope the Bucs strike Gold-Son lol,,,, BUC IT IM OUT!!!!!!!

  27. Big Marlon B Says:

I’m hoping this happens, but I won’t get too far ahead of myself until I see it on the ticker on my TV. The Bengals really wanted him last year when they signed him to an offer sheet, and Mike Zimmer and company seem to really know defensive talent.

@ J 2.0 – don’t expect many people to get Goldson‘s name right any time soon….Ronde Barber has been here for almost 20 years and people still insist on spelling it Rhonde, Ronda, Rhonda, etc lol

  28. Bucsalltheway Says:

    Lol@big marlon
