Goodbye, Eric Wright

December 30th, 2012

Joe might stop calling rockstar general manager Mark Dominik “rockstar” if Eric Wright returns to the Bucs in 2013, especially if Wright returns with the same bloated contract that is set to pay him $7.75 million next season.

There’s no reason for it. Dominik must see that.

Wright was healthy and very well rested entering today’s game following a four-game substance abuse suspension and a California spa/beach getaway.

Wright practiced all week but was not activated today. The FOX TV cameras caught him sitting on the Bucs bench in street clothes.

Joe sincerely hopes that’s the proverbial writing on the wall. Joe can’t fathom how Wright is what Greg Schiano calls  “a Buccaneer Man” and how his return is in the team’s best interest. Take Wright’s money and put it toward another veteran cornerback without a background in pills and funny business.

    I concur with ya Joe

we ansolutely need corners that should be priority one. A shutdown corner would be amazing.

  3. holymoly Says:

Gotta agree , money should be better spent on a player who wants to play and not take illegal substances .

  4. Ian's Gay Lisp & Ron's Drinking Problem Says:

That bonehead cost himself a fortune. We lucked out

  5. Patrick Says:

Agree. He’s not even a good player. We can definitely upgrade.

  6. 507 Bucs fan Says:

Thank god he had that suspension… this was a desperation move (and a necessary one)… bye bye to wright hello to 1st and 2nd round CBs and a decent free agent.

And one that isn’t injured or playing injured the majority of the season. How do we know he can even stay healthy? It is a big financial gamble.

  8. Patrick Says:

Goodbye to Eric Wright, EJ Biggers, and Myron Lewis.

    Hello Drc…

  10. Macabee Says:

Maybe yes, maybe no! But definitely not with the same contract and there should be no rush to make that decision.

The Bucs hold all the aces. They can wait to see how they fare in FA and the draft before taking any action. He can’t do anything because they still hold his contract. From what I can read from his contract, there are no roster bonuses due or other monies owed.

  11. BucFan20 Says:

    Hope he is gone.

  12. Adam L Says:

I hope he stays…. For no other reason than it will force Joe to rescind the Rockstar GM monicker.

  13. Miguel El Magnifico Says:

Maybe he stays because someone on the Bucs gave him the illegal drugs.

I like Teflon Dom instead of Rockstar anyway.

If the Bucs keep Wright and Gosh, there will be more people in the seats at an average Rays game than CITS Stadium on Sundays.

Imagine if the Rays had only 8 home games? You wouldn’t be able to find a ticket anywhere.

  14. FLBoyInDallas Says:

I hope he stays with a restructured contract and as our #2 CB, not our #1. Then we sign a free agent plus draft two more. All set.

  15. SensibleBuc Says:

    E. Wright out. Quentin Jammer in. Any takers?

  16. buccanay Says:

Definite yea to Jammer… as far as Wright, if he’s willing to restructure, I’d consider keepin him, depending on contract. Face it…we need 3 starting CB’s next year, and right now, assuming Wright goes, that’s a BAD situation to be in. If we could get a Jammer or Sean Smith, high draft pick, maybe 2, and keep Wright, that might constitute an NFL set of CB’s, a start anyway. However, you put it, we really need FIVE new CB’s next season, of which 3 need to be starting caliber.

  17. Tbuc Says:

Until he puts together a playoff caliber roster he’s just a one hit wonder GM.

  18. CanadianBucsFan Says:

    @buccany

Sean Smith will most likely be slapped with the franchise tag ( thats one nice slap to the face ) and DRC is too soft of a tackler to play for a Schiano defense. Jammer is sounding nice to me right now. I hope the dolphins decide not to franchise Smith and we make a run for him, hes a talented cornerback who to my knowledge has not been in any trouble.

  19. Capt. Tim Says:

Terrible CB. Terrible person. Good riddance

  20. Big Marlon B Says:

Johnthan Banks in the 1st round, hopefully David Amerson in the 2nd (move to FS), Joseph Fauria in 3rd. And i know he’s a bonehead and a piece of garbage, but I’ve been wondering if it might be worth it to take a shot at Honey Badger with a mid round pick. Perhaps Schiano can get his head on straight….the kid is tough as nails and is an undeniable playmaker. That would be a pretty sweet haul. Pending any surprise cuts, the upcoming free agent CBs leave a bit to be desired. Rodgers Cromartie is WAYYYYY too soft. I think Schiano would be more likely to have success changing Mathieu’s attitude (which can be done), than instill toughness in DRC…either you’re tough and physical, or you’re not. DRC will never be that kind of player.

  21. Big Marlon B Says:

Oh Xavier Rhodes would be a great option too. Either way, there is plenty of work to be done on the back end.

  22. PRBucFan Says:

Nope Dee Milliner in the first, trade back into the first with our extra fourth and get Jonathan Banks 🙂

“grandpa miguel, can i hate people for no reaason too?”

keep teaching your grandkids negativity and how to hate.

  24. PRBucFan Says:

My thoughts are why is Wright so hated???

Isnt this his first offense? And havent we won when he has been on the field and lost when he hasn’t, excluding this weak? He is a capable 2 CB and more than capable 3 CB. He’ll most likely get restructured and kept as a 2 or 3

  25. Lion Says:

Who said they hated Wright? Fact being, it’s not that he is hated, it is simply that he is overpaid and now the money he is suppose to be paid is not guaranteed any longer. So why pay $7+ MILL a year for an average CB when you can dump him and use that money on a more talented CB?

  26. PRBucFan Says:

You can speak for yourself but many many many people on this site on other Wright threads have expressed hateful remarks of or toward him. You may not but fact is Wright for some reason or another Wright IS one of the Hated Bucs now.
