Bucs Are “Umpteen Times” Smarter, Says Schiano

December 24th, 2012

“You see this, Mark? They never would have understood that in July.”

In what was a somewhat random comment this afternoon, the leader of the New Schiano Order praised the football IQ of his team.

They’re “umpteen times more football smart than they were five months ago,” Schiano said.

Joe was pleased to hear that, but it’s also a bit scary. If the players are so wise and savvy, then what’s going wrong?

Is it coaching? Is it confidence? These smart Bucs are quite healthy by December NFL standards, so it can’t be that.

Some players aren’t…and that’s why they’re gone: Benn, Biggers, Blount, Underwood

  2. CC Says:

    Joe
You are NFL smart but that does not make you a good NFL player. Bottom line is we don’t have enough good NFL players on this team.

  3. tim Says:

I agree. You can be the smartest NFL player. but if your not good enough it doesnt matter. And i think that is our problem at DB. Plus we always put them on a island with out blitzs. Which still never seem to put much pressure on the QB

  4. MadMax Says:

The Bucs other than Gosh and the secondary….hence why there were many fans clapping and cheering yesterday (other than for Gosh). We’ve made huge progress. Now please continue it by replacing Gosh! Get after Geno!!!

  5. Theodore Says:

Maybe the problem is Schiano thinks umpteen is a real number.

  6. Miguel El Magnifico Says:

In the case of LaVonte David, he is correct. As far as the coaching staff and the QB, they have regressed.

Someone held an intervention during the bye week and got them on the right track but unfortunately there isn’t 2 bye weeks in the season.

  7. eric Says:

Maybe they can convince the falcons to play scrabble.

  8. IdahoBucsfan Says:

Insulting Joe is never in play. Your comment has been deleted. Merry Christmas. –Joe

  9. DaMayan Says:

Learning anything usually has its setbacks. 1 step back 2 steps forward. Maybe they are learning a lot and just in de downturn before the spike.

  10. Give it to Blount Says:

C’Mon Joe, you know. Its all about “5” that’s whats wrong.

  11. PRBucFan Says:

    Joe
What method have you implemented for us to be able to message you with questions and concerns?

  12. Macabee Says:

The good news is that Schiano is not listening to any of us! Merry Christmas!

  13. Morgan Says:

Players smarter? I don’t know about that. Eric Wright just tweeted about something he just saw on Jerry Springer.

  14. eric Says:

Math is not their best subject.

  15. 1976Buc Says:

Let’s not leave the Coaches out of this improvement equation. There are many areas they could help this team also.

  16. Morgan Says:

Gotta think Schiano will make huge adjustments to his coaching staff as well as his roster now that he’s situated and has his first season under his belt. It was all new to him last year, and he didn’t get the folks he absolutely wanted when hiring back in March. We’ll see.

  17. Bobby Says:

I agree that moves will be made to the coaching staff and players during the off season. The coaching staff was not a long term setup. I think Schiano is still trying to get some of the staff he wanted this year but couldn’t get.

  18. MadMax Says:

“You know the price of everything and the value of nothing!”

I heard that many years ago while in the midst of a financial transaction that did not end well. And boy was it a lesson learned!

  19. MadMax Says:

Screw it……..I’ll go ahead and say it. It was Zapata stock. I watched it run up, failed to sell while the price was high and watched the value fall.

Glazers, DO NOT do it again please. Sell the Freeman stock while its high please!

  20. Meh Says:

Freeman ‘stock’ is not high right now.

  21. SacBucs Says:

Joe you the man! Im so glad you can read ebonics. My apolygies for not writing the Kings english as perfect as these maggotrons on your site. They are internet thugs/ window warriors who can never get to me or under my skin poot butts. You know who you are! Be lucky I got it halfway rite girly man. Only Lil Bitches sit around correcting somebodies english. Posters argue on who has the best opinion like its gonna change something haha. None of you suckers got no power in the bucs organization. Write your post/opinion and drop it instead of acting like you the f-ing supreme being. Ya fifth elements!

If you cant understand me now then don’t read my post
    MAGGOTRON!

I believe in free thinking, I’m not a passenger on the Borg ship. Ya followers/know it alls.

    Ebonics Busters learn about it!

  22. Drew Says:

When Schiano said smarter, was it stated in the context as relative to an Amoeba or Einstein?

  23. Drew Says:

Happy Holidays to Joe and Fans. And Santa please give us a winning QB. And Santa it’s OK if his name is Freeman.

  24. SacBucs Says:

I’m universal I hear all beings. I read pass the typos and mispellungs. I can assume some of what is being said by a posters. Thats how adults try to understand everybody Smart Alec! When your a immature nerd boy you tend to act like the treachers pet. Thats lil kids shh son, so step off b get off my nutSac!

  25. IdahoBucsfan Says:

Without being “critical” I think there is much that could be pointed out that would be a little more positive. I want the old Joe back! I’m not here to make excuses, but.. under the circumstances, I am pleased with the changes in OUR team. No, Josh is not making good decisions, and the defense has looked like the inexperienced and injury riddled group that it is… However, aside from Josh Freeman, we put a winning team on the field this week, and I have confidence that our New Coach is looking at this thing long term, and I expect he has a much clearer view of what needs to be done to make this a true playoff team! GO BUCS!

  26. Joe Gibbons Says:

Sounds like the Coach is going into “protect my job” mode. When the BUCS realize they cannot win with Josh Freeman is when this team will move forward. Draft a blue chip QB in the first round, sit on the bench for a year and if Josh continues to be Josh (Mr. Inconsistency) then you have a Plan B waiting in the wings. Put the pressure on Freeman to step up or step aside. Plus – the NSO (New Schiano Order) needs to make serious changes to the coaching staff.

  27. aljamo Says:

Big bucs fan since first season, suffering through those early and mid years of two, three or four wins. Give us fans a competitive team year after year. That’s all I ask. The jury was out on Freeman before this season.

  28. tampabaybucfan Says:

    He said “smart”….not wise…there is a difference…..Obama is smart & healthy…but is the job getting done?….just a question, not a statement!
Give me dumb and successful. Give me a stupid win!

  29. Eric Says:

Umpteen times smarter than a Raheem Morris team still places them two or more standard deviations below the mean….

  30. Andrew Says:

    @ SacBucs

    dude lay off the sauce.

  31. SteveK Says:

The QB processes the game in super slow motion. He breaks down the pay slower than a snail.

    That’s the “problem”.

  32. ladyz Says:

To all the writers and readers of this blog, and especially to the Joes for providing this forum, Merry Christmas and may this day bring you much joy and happiness. Thanks to all of you for giving this old girl a lot of entertainment and sometimes a little stress as we root our Bucs in their quest for victory. I am so greatful for the freedom and privilege of speaking our minds. Again, Merry Christmas !

  33. SacBucs Says:

    Andrew you a lil girl!

  34. mcBuc Says:

Sacbuc. What gives? No one was bashing your grammar on this thread? Speak your mind however you want to write it, but it appears Andrew was Nagy confused by your rant because no one attacked you.

  35. Rajah Says:

Gosh is a hopeless, pathetic travesty of a QB! He will never amount to anything in the NFL. Case n point.

  36. buckeyebob Says:

he had smarter players @ rutgers and still could not win the league or get to a BCS game. football smart guys know where to be and when to be there, our guys look lost most of time. maybe we need a smarter coach to coach our smarter guys !
