Eric Wright Can “Take His Medicine”

July 5th, 2012

National NFL insider and all-around wiseguy Mike Florio, creator and curator of and a NBC Sports personality, reminds Bucs fans in this video that Eric Wright can be punished by the Buccaneers for his recent actions. The Bucs don’t have to defer to Roger Goodell, Florio says, and while Wright has rights, he also has the right to “take his medicine” for his alleged misdeeds if the New Schiano Orders wants to send a message.

Florio’s got some intriguing takes here, including one that says the Bucs might not care as much about public perception of how Wright is handled because the change in blackout rules will alleviate much of the pressure to sell tickets.

  1. Stevek Says:

Cut this felon, his contract should be voided.

No room for selfish immaturity for this new order.

  2. Dylan Says:

So many people are so fast to jump to the conclusion of cutting. He had some drinks and made a dumb choice and chose to drive. As far as I know this is the first time he has gotten in any sort of confrontation with the police(while in nfl). Suspend him 2 games, give him a chance to redeem himself and prove it was just a dumb choice and move on.

  3. BKNYfootballhead Says:

    …I say stomp him…
    …then we tatoo him…
    …and then we hang him…
    …and then we kill him.

  4. Meh Says:

Seriously doubt we have the grounds to cut him for this. If we do we should though, because his contract is terrible for an average (at best) CB. The DUI is just the final straw for me on this guy. It was a bad signing at the time, and now it looks even worse.

  5. Dini's Biceps Says:

I’m thankfull he’s done running his mouth non-stop on Twitter. If there’s anyway we can cut him due to a behavior clause, i would.

  6. Jarret Says:

They overpaid him this offseason considering how little he”s done on the field in his career so far and now this? It’s a slap in the face to a team who paid him a lot more than anyone else wouldve even considered.

I still dont understand why they gave this unproven player so much money. Yeah the Bucs were desperate at corner but that doesnt mean you have to give an arm and a leg for a decent corner. I really wanna like Dominik but sometimes I dont know what he’s thinking.

  7. Andrewbucsfan Says:

In Dom we trust. Oh and btw if your calling out for him to be cut like an idiot I thank god you are not part of the bucs organization. Cutting him would set us back in salary cap at leadt 2 years. Whether you like it or not we need a #2 corner or were screwed

  8. Meh Says:

Everyone asking he be cut is asking if there’s a behavior clause in his contract. If there was (probably not but maybe) his contract could be voided without salary cap implications.

And I’m not convinced Wright is any better than Biggers, and I am NOT a Biggers fan.

  9. Sambizle Says:

Biggers by the stats was last or second to last rated CB in the entire NFL….sorry but Wright is a little better than the second worst CB in the WHOLE NFL. Some of u tards should be cut when u say stupid things on this website. I am %100 positive that ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL the people that read Joe’s site have drove a car drunk before.

You greater than thou assholoes are sooooooooo lame sometimes, excuse me all the time!!!

  10. Amar Says:

Is Eric Wright a good corner? Average at best, like already said.

    Was he overpaid? Yes…

However, this move was made out of desperation. We were practically forced to sign him or we would be stuck with last years cast with Barber having to stay at CB which would put our Safeties in even more of a bad situation.

Therefore, Dominik isn’t too blame for signing Eric Wright. If anything, Dominik should be rewarded for filling this thin and weak position. If you want to blame Dominik, he should be blamed for not strengthening this position much sooner (years ago) or for poor drafts early in his career. And in that case we could go back far as the Gruden regime for drafting poorly and putting us in this position.

Bottom Line: Dominik did whatever he could and has done a darn good job for being left with a mess from the previous regime. I blame Gruden and Allen for putting us in this position. Dominik has built a good core to build around and he’s fixed this club much faster than others that have been stuck with losing seasons consecutively.

  11. Meh Says:

Desperation? Finnegan was begging to come here with VJack.

  12. Jarret Says:

Dom did fill a position that was desperately needed but payed him way too much. Why not pay an extra two mil a year for finnegan or carr? Guys who are proven pro bowl corners. Not a young guy who gambles too much in coverage and apparently behind the wheel, too.

  13. Andrewbucsfan Says:

We will all have to save judgement till we see him on the field. We overpaid because we wanted a cb his size, barbers size, since we already have a big shut down corner in Talib. We also overpaid with the thought in min that it would allow us to move barber over and draft Barron to completely revamp our dbs which look to be th strong point o the defense. And for those that blame Dom for the drafts, if I remember correctly after every draft since gmc we’ve said what a great draft each were. 2010 we seemed to fix our DTs and grab a good corner and 2 WRs one who was a 4th rounder and been very productive, 2011 2 good DEs and a MLB, 2012 a RB, S, and LB. The coaches didn’t develop the talent.

  14. Drew Says:

I have to challenge the statement you made. I for one do not drink or take drugs. I’ve led a pretty clean life in not having to deal with those demons. So your statement ALLLLLLLLLLL is inaccurate.

  15. stevek Says:

Should have ponied up and paid Finnegan.

More money, less problems, better player, wiser investment.

  16. stevek Says:

    incorrect and idiotic, good sir.

Poor logic, poor decision, and a repeat offender for studpid and mindless acts.

He just signed a $35 million contract, he could not afford to call a cab?

  17. Bobby Says:

I would say at this point in time Eric Wright is not a serial offender. He has one arrest in his NFL career. I’m not saying we take it lightly but we don’t cut him. He will probably sit out a few games and be fined heavily. I don’t think Schiano is ‘one and done’ but he will have a very short leash on Wright after this.

  18. Dini's Biceps Says:

allowing CB Courtland Finnegan to get away was a complete system FAILURE by the Rock Star,, Mark D. ….. and MLB Curtis Lofton. (that’s the difference between playoffs and same old cheap Bucs) smh

  19. Bobby Says:

@Dini’s Biceps… do you even read the stories on here?? We tried to get Lofton but he didn’t want to play for the Bucs. As far as Finnegan goes, who says we didn’t make him an offer?? You really are quite the cry baby aren’t you?

  20. Bobby Says:

Same old cheap Bucs Dini??? You are a complete and utter simpleton. We spent a ton of money in FA this year stupid.

  21. OAR Says:

Sounds like you found Pee-Wee Herman’s Suitcase?

  22. OAR Says:

“He just signed a $35 million contract, he could not afford to call a cab?”
Making it rain is expensive, besides they don’t look cool in a cab!

  23. Macabee Says:

In the past the NFL policy has been not to suspend DUI first offenders, however the league is pushing for harsher fines. I don’t know what Schiano will do, but I would let the league take the lead here and take appropriate discipline internally and privately short of game suspensions. The important thing here is for the players to know that some displinarian action was taken.

On May 31,2012, PR announced that the Bucs had hired Terry Cousins as Director of player engagement whose principal role is to assist players with off-field issues and adjustment to the NFL. I have seen no formal announcement from the Bucs and Cousins name is not listed among FO personnel on the Bucs website. This seems like a good idea and could possibly prevent situations like this, but somewhat of a mystery. Maybe the Joes can enlighten.

  24. BucFan20 Says:

IMO I don’t care if it is 1 or 9 arrests. The point is if he had nothing to hide he would do as requested by law enforcement. He REFUSED ! Only reason is so he can go to court and laugh at the justice system and say Ya I had an accident but PROVE I was drunk. Guess what. There is none. No Field test. No Breathalizer. He could have taken a cab. But it’s ok with some of you. He only hurt the guy. Did not KILL him. Would you look at it another way if he had. Or if it was you or one of your family members?

  25. stevek Says:

    Rock star gaffe ensuing.

This is not looking good. We might be stuck with Myron Lewis.

We can always take out our “Albert Haynesworth Insurance Policy”.

  26. Dini's Biceps Says:

Still $16,000,000.00 Million Dollars UNDER the CAP <—- that much MONEY could've gotten us players to be a PLAYOFF TEAM….not an 8-8 Team @ Best. The GLAZER FAMILY is not "doing whatever it takes to win".

  27. Bobby Says:

This whole site has been taken over by trolls. Not hardly worth reading the comments anymore.

  28. Oahubuc Says:

@BKNY, I say you let me handle him first.

  29. dr j Says:

Dini, I wouldnt’ be suprised if they’re saving the CAP money for signing in-house players. Freeman, Blount, etc. They’re all due for renewals.

  30. Stevek Says:

Wright should be cut, if his contract is void able.

At least “Toast” Biggers can be relied on and held accountable to get burned 16 games per (GMC can’t even tweet that).

  31. Andrewbucsfan Says:

^good joke loser. And we held the 16 mill under the cap so we can lock up players that deserve contract extensions After the year

  32. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Dini’s biceps obviously has no clue as to how the salary cap works, and that the season hasn’t started yet and we haven’t signed our final roster, including Barron. Let me give you some advice Mr. Biceps: don’t write anything if you don’t know what you are talking about. Then maybe, just maybe, you can fool us and we won’t realize how stupid you are.

  33. gotbbucs Says:

    @ Dini

Signing $150+ million in future contracts is cheap? What freaking planet are you from? And even if the team still has $16 million in cap room, which I don’t believe is true, why push ourselves up against the cap so close with so many more contracts set to expire in the next two years?

    …@ stevek

Take a chill pill. Why don’t you get back to trying to convince us all that Trent Richardson is the second coming. That farce was almost more believable than the Bucs cutting a guy that they just guaranteed $15 million dollars to. Nobody expected to be a starter gets cut over a DUI, no matter how foolish it is to get one.

  34. Dini's Biceps Says:

$16,000,000.00 under the cap…….so, they BETTER extend the players contracts with that money BEFORE the season is over…..otherwise all that money is lost. If they resign the players after December 31st….the money counts on next years salary cap. the glazers are still pulling the wool over your eyeballs. They want to resign Freeman so the only way to keep him is get him a stud WR (V. Jax) and a better O-Line (Nicks). They only sighed Eric Wright b/c they thought Talib and Barber could be gone (that’s why they grossly overpaid Wright).

So, the Glazers are only making moves that they HAVE TO. and NOT “whatever it takes to win” wake-up Tampa Bay Geeeeez!

  35. Dr. Buc Says:

Vincent Jackson is 1 DUI from being suspended for the season and we signed him. Give Eric Wright a chance to redeem himself.

  36. stevek Says:

Trent Richardson is going to be OUTSTANDING.

I said, “Cut Wright IF his contract is voidable”.

You should take that chill pill, and pull the trigger on Trent Richardson in your fantasy football draft, dude is a TRUE #3 overall pick! (you hear that GMC?)

  37. Bobby Says:

@Stevek….last I checked Richardson hasn’t taken a snap yet in the NFL so we don’t know squat about him. He may be a bust, he may be great. He has to prove that on the field just like everyone else. Really though….you shouldn’t post so much. You, Dini, and Thomas are just not that ‘strong’ on football knowledge. I enjoy reading informed comments, whether I agree with them or not but you guys just post utter nonsense 99% of the time. The reason you get flamed so much is..well…you deserve it. It’s OK to be skeptical but you guys really come off like Falcons or Saints fans who just post on here to annoy everyone else. I’m just sayin’…. If you keep buzzing around like a mosquito don’t be surprised when you get smacked every now and then.

  38. stevek Says:

Thank you for your opinion, and I would like to question your football knowledge.

Take down your GMC fat head, and get a life.

IMO, Trent Richardson will be an All-Pro.

  39. OAR Says:

Well like my Pappy always said “Opinions are like a$$holes….Everybody’s got one, just some are bigger than others.”

Or, if your more inclined to take Dirty Harry’s word about it, then..”Opinions are like a$$holes…Everybody’s got one and everyone thinks everyone else’s stinks.”

  40. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“$16,000,000.00 under the cap…….so, they BETTER extend the players contracts with that money BEFORE the season is over…..otherwise all that money is lost.”

Wow, you still don’t get it do you? You really need to do some more research on this, because you are making yourself sound more and more like an idiot with each post. Perhaps you should even take a business economics class.

  41. Dini's Biceps Says:

@ Hawiian Buc <—– I'm 100% aware of how the salary cap works. Get back to me when we're in neef of depth and miss the playoffs

  42. Bobby Says:

@Hawaiian….it’s like explaining algebra to a pre-schooler. Why even try?….
It gets tiring reading the same drivel from the same posters (Dini, Eric, Thomas, Stevek..etc. etc.) It’s like they can’t wait for something bad to happen so they can say “Ahah! Told you so. Rock star my @!$
blah! blah! How many pro bowlers….blah! blah! GMC is eating up the salary cap…blah! blah! Our receiving corps sucks! blah! blah! Glazers are cheap because they didn’t get Finnegan or Carr! blah! blah! Can’t believe they hired Morris! blah! blah! Dom should be fired for this Eric Wright thing! blah! blah! I don’t care if they got Nicks, Jackson, Barron, Martin, David, and Wright, if you think they want to win you’ve been drinking the Kool-aid! blah! blah!”

It does get a little old when you want to support a team that others just want to trash. Makes you wonder why they come here to post instead of some other NFC South teams message board. They would get beat down a whole lot less there.
