Brian Price Excused All Week

June 12th, 2012

All hands were on deck for Day 1 of Bucs minicamp minus Brian Price, so said Greg Schiano after practice.

Schiano made it clear that Price is excused for all three days of camp.

Earlier this month it was reported that Price was approved to be trainingĀ in California, where his family is mourning the recent loss of his sister in a car accident.

Sure do hope Price recovers, both physically and emotionally. What a great story if he were able to come back and dominate his position. It’s the stuff legends are made of. I’m going to see it that way until whatever happens happens.

@TrueBlue: I’m with you. The guy has been a fighter and ovecome long odds all his life, it seems. I sure am pulling for him to come back 100% and becme everything he can be, for himself and for the Buccaneers.

    overcome*

This makes a lot of sense. While it is important for Price to be there, he can further recover physically in California, train with a private trainer but MOST importantly… and this is HUGE: step into the father role for his sister kids.

Remember how he said he was going to adopt them now? Well, these things take time and kids NEED a person that is PHYSICALLY there for them during the tough loss of a parent.

From the sounds of it Schiano agrees.

It is not only Price that is mentally hurting but also his ‘new’ children.

I don’t like the special treatment. It underminds what the coach is trying to do and I’m sure some of the players are shaking their heads

I don’t think any players are going to begrudge Price for working out at home based on his situation. And if they did, I suspect that they wouldn’t be guys Schiano would want on the team. Sure, it would be great if Price could be at camp. But he has far more important things to worry about.
