Derrick Brooks Says Bring On Trent Richardson

April 20th, 2012

Bucs icon Derrick Brooks is not hiding his desire for fellow Pensacolan Trent Richardson to wear pewter and red. And we already know Richardson wants to be here, too.

Joe’s tired this morning and will not beat the drum again for Morris Claiborne, who Joe desperately wants to see donning Bucs gear this time next week. Brooks spoke today on WDAE-AM 620. Listen below.

As Vice President of the Claiborne campaign(Joe is President) i have one
    word

    Claiborne!!!!

  2. Meh Says:

I think the browns take Richardson. I’d prefer Claiborne, but if Schiano and Dom want Richardson and think he’s that good then they might have to trade up with the Vikes to get him. I’d hate that, but that’s the situation imo.

  3. SensibleBuc Says:

    @ Deminion

    LOL! Well done as usual.

  4. princespanky Says:

I love them both but if TRich falls to us, has Derrick Brooks on his side and wants to be here that bad…. well that’s the kind of fate that you can’t look in the mouth.

It would be an awful exciting year for the offence.

  5. SensibleBuc Says:

    @Meh

I don’t think they like him THAT much. If he were the last elite prospect at that spot and we didn’t have Blount I could see them making that move but not with Claiborne/Kalil sitting right there for the taking.

  6. rdbucfan Says:

As a cabinet member of the Richardson campaign (DB #55 is President and Hawaiian Buc is Vice President) I have four words.

    Bucs must draft Richardson.

  7. Meh Says:

Sensible, I agree. Was just trying to lay things out as they stand. I’d die if we gave up picks to get him. I’m ok if we take him at 5, but would much rather have Claiborne.

  8. rdbucfan Says:

I guess it should have been eight words.

Bucs must draft Richardson if he is available.

  9. Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Cleveland will take Richardson, count on it. They lost Peyton Hillis, and need help at Running Back. He will not be there when Tampa drafts.

  10. deminion Says:

    @rdbucfan
    Let the debate begin!! lol

Naw but BUYS im rlly excited fot the draft either way it goes
and very excited for the season im feel were gunna b alright i feel like Raheem with the rose colored glasses on haha

  11. rdbucfan Says:

    Dominion,

I can’t believe I’m this excited. It doesn’t matter who they pick at 5 they should get an elite player.

  12. raphael Says:

either one would be perfect…… Both could be gone though.

  13. Brandon Says:

Brooks wants Richardson, you want Claiborne, I want Kuechly. We should go with Kuechly. I’ve got a far better track record than the Bucs in the past 15 seasons:

    In past drafts:
1998 I wanted WR Germane Crowell, the Bucs wanted WR Jacquez Green-advantage me
1999 I wanted DE Jevon Kearse the Bucs wanted DT Anthony McFarland-advantage me
2000-I wanted G Cosey Coleman and then I wanted LB Nate Webster-Bucs got both-horrible draft-my bad
2001-I wanted Kenyatta Walker, the Bucs wanted Kenyatta Walker-unfortunately we both go what we wanted-STUPID ME!
2002-I wanted Gruden-we got him… we got a Super Bowl…. good decision for the time
2004-I wanted RB Steven Jackson, we wanted WR Michael Clayton-BIG ADVANTAGE metr
2005-I wanted DE Shawn Merriman, we wanted RB Carnell Williams-advantage me
2006-I wanted WR Santonio Holmes, we wanted OG Davin Joseph-advantage… Bucs because Holmes is a turd.
2007-I wanted anybody but DE Gaines Adams, but most of all LB Patrick Willis, we wanted Adams-advantage me
2008-I wanted RB/WR Chris Johnson, we wanted CB Aqib Talib-advantage me
2009-I wanted DT Evander Hood, we wanted QB Josh Freeman-advantage Bucs
2010-I wanted to trade down and take DT Lamarr Houston or if we couldn’t S Eric Berry, the Bucs wanted DT Gerald McCoy-advantage me-all that money to a guy with biceps made of paper mache hasn’t been worth it.
2011-I wanted DE Cam Jordan, the Bucs wanted DE Adrian Clayborne-advantage Bucs

For the record I’ve been right 7 times, the Bucs 3 times, and we greed 2 times. I’m right about Kuechly. This is the guy we need.

My 1st round track record has been far better than the Bucs over the last 15 seasons. I study the draft like it’s my job, I actually enjoy it, so it’s not really LIKE my job. I watch college football, but not for the enjoyment of it, I watch it to see the prospects. And unlike some of the people around here, I watch college football NOT just in the SEC.

  14. Macabee Says:

Maybe Schiano could take Talib to the draft with him and one way or another, we get both of them! ( this is the silly season, isn’t it?) lol

  15. deminion Says:

Were is Capt tim to rain on the parade?

  16. Meh Says:

I like Kuechly a lot too, but not at #5. I’d love to trade down a little and get Kuechly and some picks, but I’m not sure that’s going to be an option.

  17. bucfanjeff Says:

TRich will go to the Browns I think, but if he’s available – he’s a Buc.

  18. Dylan Says:

@Joe, get off of Trent’s d*ck. if Derrick brooks said draft
Claibourne you would have a nice biased response. At the end of the day what Trent Richardson is the BPA and is a alien and terminator. Will win more games, can carry the load, and help
Josh freeman so much and not have to be taken out and Doesnt fumble. He will take the buccaneers offense to
Another level. Morris won’t take the D
    To another level.

  19. Stevek Says:

Hope TR falls to us at 5.

Mr. Derrick Brooks 1st ballot HOFer (Teddy Bruschi is an ass hat for talking down on Brooks).

  20. Garv Says:

It doesn’t matter, he won’t be there and the Buccaneers will take gladly take Claiborne at 5.

Barring a fantastic trade offer of course.

  21. js1506 Says:

@ Brandon… you think you’re so smart huh?

Well if MR. Derrick Brooks approves it, then i’m fine with it… claiborn or richardson, we can’t go wrong either way.

  22. rdbucfan Says:

    Joe (Steve),

Who do you believe is the end all be all of the draft?

This draft expert must be the one you’re getting this fascination with Morris Claiborne (who by the way tackled as well as GMC in college) Maybe Mo is disruptive also.

Have you even seen him play or watched film of him?

I know he was out of positions on 2 of the biggest plays LSU gave up last year. He was the CB that was covering Andre Debose on the 60+ yard TD pass by UF. You know the same UF team that was absolutely horrible and couldn’t score on anyone.

  23. jvato24 Says:

Neither player is a slam dunk.

TR could have knee issues …

Claiborne has not faced the top WRs in the SEC.

Either of these guys could bust.

  24. Matthew Says:

Jvato24 I agree either guy might not pan out (that’s why drafts are crap shoots)
However, you are completely off base saying Claiborne didn’t face Top WRs in the SEC unless you don’t count all these NFL WRs he played against (Dexter McCluster, Riley Cooper, David Nelson, Brandon LaFell, AJ Green, Julio Jones, Randall Cobb, Denarius Moore last year & 2012 Alshon Jeffery, Rueben Randle)

  25. bucfat Says:

I like Mo or Kuechly for our first round but how can you not want to listen to Mr. Brooks? He’s the man, man.

  26. jvato24 Says:

    Matthew,

From what I have read he did not face all of those guys. Patrick Peterson did. There is not much good film on him against the top Wrs.

Kareem Jackson was a shutdown corner at Alabama .. Early 1st round pick and has struggled mightily through his 1st 2 years in the NFL.

I am not against Claiborne, just trying to be honest
