Now Mark Dominik Is Just Teasing People

March 14th, 2012

The spending spree for Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik continues with the Carl Nicks signing and Joe has heard rumblings about yet another signing that could be announced soon.

This latest signing should get a reaction out of Bucs fans.

Stephen Tulloch? Not yet.

Curtis Lofton? Um, not now.

Try Dan Orlovsky.

The journeyman backup quarterback is rumored to be in talks with the Bucs and Joe’s source has confirmed Dominik and Orlovsky’s people are in discussions, but nothing is imminent.

In his quest to upgrade the roster of the Bucs, one position apparently targeted by Dominik is backup quarterback. Now Joe thinks Josh Johnson is a cool guy, a smart guy, but he too is a free agent. And let’s be honest, Johnson, in his five career starts, is still looking for his first win. In none of the his starts did Johnson strike confidence that he could rack up a victory.

Even if Orlovsky found the back goal line tricky once upon a time, he has at least won a couple of games as a starter.

Joe wonders how cheap David Carr can be had?

    Championship

    Orlvlosky QB’d an 0-16.

Love the Jackson/Nicks moves but overpaying Wright and now this? I think Bruce Allen has snuck into One Buc while Dominik is/was meeting with the big names.

Orlovsky beat the Titans and Texans with a 4th quarter combeack on the Texans. He even went like 30 of 37 against the Patriots.

This would be an excellent signing.

With this ramped up line Ryan Leaf could even win a few games.

    Bucfan
I suspect most of Wright’s contract is incentives…and there is likely an easy out in a couple years.

  6. Buc Neckid Says:

Keep’em coming, we still got Cap Space.

    In Fact
Let’s get P. Manning he’ll still fit under our cap and we can protect the hell out of him with this O-Line. J.Freeman is a better backup than J.Johnson, Orlofsky or Carr.
    V. Jackson at $11 Million yr
    E. Wright at $7.5 Million yr
    C.Nicks at $9.5 Million yr
    Minus J.Faine’s $6 Million yr
means we have only added $22 Million Yr

(Please do not lose sight that this suggestion of Manning as Buc is attempted Humor, not real conjecture)

oh man seriously…..I mean dude ran out of the end zone…..thru the back!!

  8. OAR Says:

We still need to keep in mind that money needs to go(this year or next) to Freeman and a few others. If they grow and are wanted?

  9. raphael Says:

Bucs will get Loften next….book it!

  10. Pete Dutcher Says:

Lions are going to resign Tulloch. They freed cap space.

On a side note, I would rather have gotten Orton as backup. Rudy showed a slight amount of promise though. Org. might be 3rd stringer.

    The new Dream Team!

I have been hoping that the Bucs would bring in a QB that can be relied upon as a precaution encase Freeman has hit his ceiling (as I think he has) and has another season like his last one but I’m not really confident Orlovsky is that guy….. I guess at least they are trying to upgrade at backup QB….

  13. Kujolw Says:

Really? Why would you do that? I like J.Johnson and his back up role that also offers a wild cat type of deal. I mean to get him i think is just a waste of money not like he’s that much if even better that Josh Johnson. I feel you Bruce Allen snuck back it lol.

you have to be kidding me… really??!? Now Mark D, u r really making yourself rise in my mind. Wasnt the biggest fan b4, but now u making big deals that we actually need. Now u r telling me u r gunna sign 1 of the 2 back ups that attempted 2 get the colts some wins?? No sir. Try again. But im with u Joe. Lets keep on track and get another corner (Morris Claiborne (Draft)) plus another good veteran. A safety would b nice. Plus lets finalize the Curtis Lofton deal. Also, maybe we can poke our nose in the Peyton Manning Sweepstakes…??

Anyone who doesn’t see that we’re committing to more of a drop back game is missing the point. Orlovsky is an EXCELLENT choice for a back-up…does anyone know how many games an average starting QB plays each season before going down to an injury? If that happened to us, we don’t have a single QB on the roster that has actually WON a game taking over from the starter.

Excellent move, it’s what Mark Dominc has come to be known for…preparing for extended runs with off-the-radar moves. Remember all those guys who stepped up during the 10 win season? Nobody but The Rockstar knew their names prior to the season…this is another one of those type signings.

I am actually wondering if the Rockstar has an angle on signing a Left Tackle with the number 5 pick. Not sexy, but the timing would be right.

…and I’ll qualify that…if the Bucs sign Tulloch or Lofton…you can expect the unexpected in the first round this year…

Such a great day as a Bucs fan!

But as for a backup, I’d sign David Garrard
