Buccaneers 24, Colts 17

October 4th, 2011

With 14 penalties, many of the extreme bonehead variety, this W won’t go down as pretty. But when it mattered most, Josh Freeman ran the ball with authority and LeGarrette Blount was dominant.

Joe also must give his due to the Bucs’ defensive line, which came up with massive sacks on the Colts’ two drives before their desperation final effort — the first to Gerald McCoy, the second to a combined effort of Michael Bennett and Adrian Clayborn.

There are no bad wins in the NFL, even though the Bucs let an inferior opponent stay in the game. The Bucs are 3-1. Stay with Joe for much more through the night and when the sun comes up.

    Woot. GO BUCS!

Well Freeman and the recievers(with the exception of Parker) seem to have regressed a bit from last season so far. However, the defensive line is making massive strides and we are sittin pretty at 3-1. But seriously- what is up with Mike Will and Rejus? Those guys need to stop with the drops and mental errors and this will be a dangerous offense.

Nobody can say mccoy didn’t show up tonight 6 tackles with a sack. Suck it haters

  4. SRQBucFan Says:

Oh and i am not sure it was Bennett on the second Sack, i believe it was McCoy again! And if i watch that replay correctly. McCoy should have been awarded that sack too. He was on the QB bring him down as Clayborn smacked him the rest of the way down.

On a brighter note- “Blount object” is proving he is no flash in the pan. If you give this guy 20+ carries he WILL have a breakout run at some point. Its almost inevitable.

  6. McBuc Says:

How could a note be brighter? It is a win!

  7. Patrick Says:

Our D line played great tonight! Our secondary was the group that played bad

  8. SkookumSmitty Says:

I think the only DARK spot was the penalties. You guys are WHACK.

  9. Patrick Says:

Our offense really wasn’t bad at all statisically. We had a lot of big plays called back due to stupid penalties.

Our DARK spot was the penalties and the play of our secondary. Garcon burned us downfield twice for long touchdowns.

this defense has now been consistent for the last 10 quarters and looking very nasty. i feel a real identity now forming on the defense. offense is slow to start but i cant help but feel like this offense is on the verge of exploding. there is way too much talent but just not executing. go bucs!!!

McCoy should be credited with two sacks and a bunch of pressures. He had a massive game. The whole d-line dominated except for a couple drives. I suspected this might be a close game. The Colts aren’t a bad team…just an unlucky one with injuries.

  12. FLBoyInDallas Says:

And the Freeney/Mathis combo only had one sack. They had a few pressures but Penn & Trueblood did a good job tonight.

  13. KD Says:

I think Trueblood played iffy at best. Mathis and Freeney played way less than I expected.

  14. McBuc Says:

I laugh at how some of you guys bitch even when the Bucs win.

  15. McBuc Says:

Joe…U r right about BSPN…They are spemnding more time talking about Dallas and the Eagles since the game ended.

  16. Greg Says:

I love the win, but I think if Manning was playing, he’d have chewed our defense up, even with the beat up offensive line the colts had. I’ll take the win though…

  17. MOBucs Says:

Secondary looks like like the biggest weakness of the team by far. D-line should be praised by all Bucs fans. They were the difference makers tonight! Oh, and Free of course.

was anybody else completely put off by the way myron lewis dressed up tnite? obviously is not taking his opportunity seriously. after that, i hope he doesnt see any defensive snaps.

  19. Greg Says:

@ Gotbbucs, Lewis sucked, as well as Talib! Secondary is biggest weakness right now!

  20. gotbbucs Says:

i wouldnt say the whole secondary sucked. i think biggers played his best game as a pro tonight. talib got torched once and the bubble screen was just a perfect play at the perfect time. painter only completed about 45 percent of his passes.

  21. Greg Says:

@ gotbbucs, didn’t say the whole secondary sucked, but Talib got beat at least three times, then had the two penalties that hurt us as well. Lewis just had a “deer-in-the-headlights” look tonight, he’s usually better than he played tonight.

  22. Hawaiian Buc Says:

To me, this is pretty much what I expected from us tonight. Any blow out wins we have will be a shocker, as we just don’t have that mindset yet. However, I’ll take an ugly win any day over a loss, so I’m happy.

As for the penalties, it seemed like every good play we had was coming back due to a penalty. I’m sure most were good calls, but a few stood out for me as very bad calls. First, I didn’t see a hold on Penn against Freeney. You might as well call a holding on every single play if that was a holding. Second, the personal foul call on Preston Parker. From what was shown on replay, he was called for blind-siding a lineman chasing after a ball carrier. I must have missed the part where that is against the rules. He didn’t block him in the back and the guy was chasing after our guy. It’s his responsibility to keep his head on a swivel and not get killed by a WR!!! Unless the penalty was called for something else, I think that may have been the worst call I’ve ever seen (if Warren Sapp destroying Chad Clifton isn’t a penalty, then this certainly isn’t). Also, where was the block in the back penalty on the second Garcon TD? Ronde (AKA “Rhonde” for those of you who still haven’t learned how to spell his name correctly) was clearly blocked in the back as he was about to tackle him.

I’m starting to wonder if we get some bad calls due to the nature of how we play. We are one of the more physical teams in the league, and maybe the refs are having a hard time differentiating physical play from illegal play. Or maybe I’m a homer and I am 100% wrong. I know one thing: we are starting to really beat teams up, which is a beautiful sight.
