Will LeGarrette Blount Maul Ruud?

July 30th, 2011

November 27. Mark it down.

That’s when the Bucs head up to Tennessee to take on the Titans and their new middle linebacker, Barrett Ruud.

Joe’d be lying if he said he doesn’t want to see LeGarrette Blount run one up the gut and meet Ruud in a hole. Joe suspects that would go the Bucs’ way.

Pretty amazing that Ruud only got a one-year deal. All the NFL talking heads praising Ruud all through the offseason surely weren’t seeing the same things as general managers around the league.

Joe wishes Ruud well … except right after Thanksgiving.

  1. Tommy Boy Says:

Hell Yes! Chris Ivory did it….who? So I know Blount can. Shoot, resign Caddy just so he can do it dirty to Ruud.

  2. Dan Says:

that could be lumpkins breakout game!

  3. BUCCANEER BOB Says:

Joe do you have any news on who the Buccs may be looking to sign? I have looked all over the internet to find out if the Buccs are interested in anyone and im not seeing much do you got anything?

  4. Jrock Says:

hahaha Dan.. that’s a knee slapper.

Honestly, if you think Blount wins vs. Ruud, why would you have wanted Ruud on our team? I don’t get it

  5. Dan Says:

i was convinced he was playing into a scheme and that gm was in agreement, I was wrong.

  6. Brandon Says:

All of you Ruud defenders on here need to start scratching your heads and wondering why Ruud didn’t break the bank with a big multi-year deal with a huge signing bonus. He’s terrible!

Joe, I have to correct you there in your “what ifs”. There’s not a very good chance that Ruud will meet Blount in the hole, there’s a much better chance that if Ruud and Blount meet it will be 5+ yards downfield if/when Ruud isn’t able to find a blocker to hide behind.

  7. Ash Says:

    ^hahahaa!

  8. Oahubuc Says:

Can’t wait to see Ruud trucked repeatedly and not be upset about it.

  9. tony2cents Says:

Ruud will end up under Blount so many times it’ll make their teammates uncomfortable and their girlfriends jealous.

  10. Dan Says:

blount may hurdle ruud, but idk … with ruuds closing speed 40 yards later, he may make the tackle anyway!

  11. BigMacAttack Says:

Oh Hell Yeah!!! Like $h!t trough a Goose.

  12. Mauha Deeb Says:

Should be a great match up.

  13. m.wesley Says:

    Bigmac you are stupid

  14. m.wesley Says:

Will he make the ring of honor?

  15. Dan Says:

hahahaa now thats a question that will lead to some good, well thought out and rational responses.

  16. Foxworth Says:

when we face them he wont be starting they will find out long before that game what they got ,we will only see him on the bench , we shoulda made the playoffs last year no thanks for the memories good bye !!! Go bucs.

  17. Mauha Deeb Says:

    @mwesley “Bigmac you are stupid”
Is that really the best way to prove a point?

  18. m.wesley Says:

    yesssssss sirrrrrrrrrr

  19. Mauha Deeb Says:

These JBF comment sections have become so vitriolic, I am having a hard time reading many of these posts.

  20. tony2cents Says:

I kind of feel sorry for Ruud. He should have waited until mid training camp when some injuries might up his offers a bit.

  21. tony2cents Says:

But Im sure he just wants to get some work in at this point.

  22. m.wesley Says:

well you asked the question m,d .

  23. tommy Says:

    what brandon said!!!!

  24. BecklesHeartsRuud Says:

I think Ruud knows the Blount object a little too well to even dare to square up on him in the open field like he did on Chris Ivory.

  25. Mauha Deeb Says:

@m.wesley Yeah, I did. And I was hoping for something other than “yesssssss sirrrrrrrrrr” because that doesn’t clarify anything. But I guess that is all you are working with.

  26. Dan Says:

@Mauha Deeb understatement For. the. Win

  27. Dan Says:

and thank you for making me remember there is wisdom yet left

  28. Mauha Deeb Says:

    Dan FTW! Dan FTW!

  29. m.wesley Says:

take it the way you want if the shoe was on the other foot I guess it would be completely quiet I am so sorry for gloating if it gets on you post cops nerves i will apologize, but what you think of me really does not matter to me and for you Dan thinking that A mlb is playing within a scheme when he doesnt come and lay a hit on a player makes me know why you wonder is there wisdom left

  30. m.wesley Says:

And for you two to be wrong about this guy for so long should let both of you know that neither of you could judge anything.OH,Ithought Ruud wasnt tackling behind the line of scrimage or laying crushing hits was because the coach told him not to,and you judge me.Isnt it bedtime where you guys are at?

  31. Architek Says:

Now what do you Ruud comic book readers have to say about your dominant MLB leaving? And he signed a one year tender…Joe you are and were the ring leader…Lets see how you spin your view on this speculative player. What a waste of off-season chatter for someone who will never be remembered as a Buc after this season and yes Blount will gladly serve him at the LOS like most RB’s did and will. Cheers.

  32. Fear The Glo Says:

After seeing that he only signed a 1 year deal im totally convinced that it doesn’t matter if the Bucs wanted him back or not. He wanted to get the hell out of here.

Hasn’t this guy said for the last couple years that he wanted a long term deal?

Here’s a Ruud quote from the story that he is leaving: “I found some mutual interest, which was good,”

The key word for me was “mutual”

  33. Mauha Deeb Says:

Well. for whatever reason my posts aren’t going through. Sorry I can’t respond. I hope I didn’t break any rules.

  34. Mauha Deeb Says:

Still, mwesley I never said anything about Ruud. Why are you grouping me in with Dan?
And as an adult, I don’t have a bed time. Folks like myself live in a somewhat(perhaps barely) free country and we decide when we go to bed.

  35. m.wesley Says:

Well the guy that really runs this site made those rules and I guess you have found out that this is JoeBucsFan not Mauha Deeb BucsFan he makes those rules F.T.W or what ever you two seem too be so found of saying to yourselves.

  36. m.wesley Says:

and you are very right a free country so the next thing I have to say is if it is so free why would you worry about what I say when it was not toward you and I too just like you are an adult so being an adult I feel if the time permits I can gloat at any time without you trying to be my moniter and a n adult like yourself should remember that you two grouped with each other I had nothing to do with that .F.T.W

  37. Mauha Deeb Says:

M.wesley, you still haven’t answered anything. What in the world are you writing of?
Go back and read what you wrote to me, read my responses, and come back with something relevant.

  38. Mauha Deeb Says:

@m.wesley “well you asked the question m,d .”
And I responded to that, yet you have disregarded.

  39. Mauha Deeb Says:

mwesley Your posts at 1:08 and 1:13 were aimed at Dan and I…. Or am I mistaken?

  40. m.wesley Says:

AT 12:52 to1:03 who were you two aiming at please explain I may be wrong?

  41. m.wesley Says:

And where did that come from?

  42. m.wesley Says:

Big MAC ,me saying that you are stupid only meant good joke, very funny, George Carlin funny if I hurt your feelings the way some guys are acting I truley apologize. But sir that was a very funny comment at the time.

  43. Mauha Deeb Says:

I didn’t see anything at 12:52 but at 1:03 I was writing to Dan with a thank you for writing something positive about me.
@ 12:51 I was writing to you. You have yet to clarify any of that. You went off about something that had nothing to do with the original comment of me asking you if “is that the best way to prove a point?”
You started talking about some other nonsense that had nothing to do with anything I wrote. I asked if calling someone stupid out of the blue was a good argument and you responded with “yesssssss sirrrrrrrrrr”. That doesn’t clarify anything.
Then you lumped me into something with Dan in an argument that I was never a part of. I have nothing to do with that.
I am still wondering how you think “bigmac you are stupid” is a solid argument.

  44. Dan Says:

hey lets calm down i was complementing Mauha Deeb’s style of handling the situation thinking it would go away

and i will say and have said (somewhere around here) that i was wrong please, no need to attack me for having an opinion M.W or to get personal. I did not mean to offend you so please dont take it so personally as all that, i just honestly appreciated a witty remark in response to a couple of the ones that you left that were a bit immature e.g.: calling someone stupid and the yessir comment

anyway all of this back and forth should probably stop no need to attack each other, leave that to falcons fans, or Thomas

  45. Mauha Deeb Says:

m.wesley There you go! Your last comment could have ended all of this but instead you decided to drag it into something completely different. Please, don’t do that anymore. We are all adult Bucs fans here. No need to name call.

  46. Mauha Deeb Says:

@Dan You nailed it. No need to fight. Disagreements are okay, but attacking someone with “stupid” for having a different opinion is not.

  47. m.wesley Says:

I am looking at the comments from 12:51 until1:03 you attacked me because of the way I commented on a remark, you had a remark to say Dan cheered you on and I dont know what you guys did after that but what ever floats your boat man I really am not defined by what you think of me or that B.S of what are you talking about I am not a part of that I hope I can say what I feel on Joes website but if you get one I will promise to follow your rules

  48. m.wesley Says:

So your that is all you are working with was not an attack on me so if you explain it the way I did I would have the same understanding that I gave you,and through all of this the man that I made the comment to understood but the guy who wasnt talked to came to his rescue that is why I attack back and please dont stop having an opinion because that is all I was doing when I got attacked

  49. Max Says:

If Ruud juiced up like those USC linebackers he could be one of the best…LOL

  50. Mauha Deeb Says:

@mwesley Never let anyone but yourself define you. I give you props on that mindset.
Still, I never said anything to attack you. You know this. I merely questioned your tact. You called someone stupid and I asked you if that was the best way to prove a point. Your reply was ridiculous. Anyone can see. I only wanted you to clarify why you thought “BigMacAttack” was stupid. That was all.
I only meant to question the validity of your statements. I never meant to attack you. If you felt/feel that I did, I am sorry. Next time I’ll try to write differently.

  51. m.wesley Says:

We all need to apologize and wait for one post to come up before we write but I agreed with BigMac stupid was just an expression for good one,our opinions are the same.

  52. m.wesley Says:

Im not upset just asking a question but that is all you are working with wasnt meant to be an insult?

  53. Mauha Deeb Says:

@m.wesley Not at all, my Buc brother. And as I posted a few minutes ago:
“I never meant to attack you. If you felt/feel that I did, I am sorry. Next time I’ll try to write differently.”

  54. HIRE GREG OLSON! Says:

You guys should start your own reality show…

  55. Mauha Deeb Says:

@HGO It was a go until Belichik made Ochocinco back out. Still waiting to hear from T.O. and Sapp.

  56. m.wesley Says:

M.D and M.W in the morning sounds good to me

  57. Mauha Deeb Says:

lol “MD and MW in the Morning”
Certainly would be better than the garbage Beckles spews.

  58. SebringSmitty Says:

    Group (((((((((((((((hug))))))))))))))))).

  59. Gary Says:

Heres some irony for you. We overshot clayborns contract by a few 100k which is causing the picks after him to holdout. They also want fully guaranteed deals.

We are now in the news for overpaying a player ladies and gentlemen.

  60. Mauha Deeb Says:

@Gary What news are you writing of? I was under the impression that the new rookie wages were set. Where did you here this?
(Don’t post a link just write where you heard it from)

  61. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Captain Tim is one of my favorite posters on this board, but I can’t wait to hear how he spins this one. He has been saying for what seems like forever that Ruud was going to get a huge contract from some other team. Our punter will be a richer man than the MLB for the Tennessee Titans, so I guess that didn’t work out so great for Ruud. I wish him the best of luck, but I don’t believe this hurts us one bit. If an average at best LB is the difference between us winning and losing games, then we don’t belong in the playoffs. I know he’s smart, yada yada yada, but bottom line is you have to knock people on their butts, and Ruud simply didn’t do that enough. I can’t think of one bone-crushing hit in his entire career, which should not be the case for a veteran MLB.

The best thing about this situation is that we don’t have to discuss Barrett Ruud every single day anymore, or do we ………?

  62. Mauha Deeb Says:

@HIBuc He also guaranteed a Nnamdi signing.

  63. Hawaiian Buc Says:

@Mauha Deeb, yes he did. It’s okay Captain, we’ve all been wrong before. We still love ya!!!

  64. Mauha Deeb Says:

You are more than right, HIBuc. We are all fallible.

  65. Dan Says:

its on profootballtalk the ‘news’ about us overpaying the ‘reccomended prices and guranteeing all of it, the other teams in our draft pick range are now cornered into doing the same, however they have probably already signed up all but the recommended contract out of their allowed (i figure we shortchanged bradford and thats why it took so long) total rookie fund.

  66. Mauha Deeb Says:

I despise garbage news. None of this changes anything. He is still a Buc and will be a Buc. This report changes absolutely nothing. Next time get me worked up over something legitimate.

  67. Macabee Says:

Boy, that Ruud sure brings out the best in us. Now that he’s gone, somebody is going to be the recipient of our agnst. I don’t know who the next MLB will be, but I somehow think he’s going to need a flame retardant suit.

  68. Bucnjim Says:

This is nothing more than a case of an overhyped player which is Ruud in this case. Ruud; his agent; and the Bucs tried to make him the face of the frachise and he just wasn’t that player. One other player in the Bucs history comes to mind and that’s Anthony McFarland. He was a pretty decent player with Pro Bowl players around him, but he wasn’t the type who could lead the charge on his own.

  69. Mr. Lucky Says:

Ruud’s deal was $4 million for 1 year. Somehow I don’t think that there was too much interest from other teams.

The Bucs would/could have matched that if they wanted Ruud back – obviously there were bad feelings on both sides.

What this means for the Bucs is this – Mason and Mackinzie are going to slug it out for the starting job in training camp.

  70. Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

I think Tampa will be better off with Ruud gone. I just told my Son Ruud was gone, and he said “Good”.

  71. Capt.Tim Says:

( scratching head). Response is easy. Apparently I was wrong about Barrett . Money talks, so its obvious that He wasn’t just a victim of the scheme.. I was wrong, you guys were right

What do I know? Guess I better keep the day job

I did not, however, guarantee a Nnamdi signing. I sure campaigned for it, but said it didnt have to be him, but we needed to sign somebody. I DID say We would make some important signings. But I based that on a salary cap Floor.

The last minute , 2 year exemption on a salary cap floor changed all of that.
Apparently, if not forced, we will not sign any players but our draft picks and some vets. No new talent, and we lose Caddy and Ruud.

You guys might celebrate that. Honestly, I’m kinda disappointed that we didn’t think any of the FAs out there could help the team.

    Again, what do I know?

  72. Capt.Tim Says:

    Oh, almost forgot!
I still love you guys too! Lol

  73. Jonny Says:

    Captain Tim not sighted.

  74. Mr. Lucky Says:

Tim I don’t think we lose Caddy – we need that change up scat-back – PLUS caddy can protect Freeman on passing downs.

  75. admin Says:

    Joe here,

@Mauha and M.Wesley — No clue why a couple of comments didn’t post. There are glitches in the system sometimes. And if you fire too many off in a row, sometimes they’re recognized as spam.

  76. Bucnjim Says:

Captain; always good to have your humor in the conversation. I’ve been wrong on way more than one occasion myself.

  77. Capt.Tim Says:

No shame being wrong to a buncha great, knowledgeable Fellow Buc fans like you guys!

And I have been right a coupla times too!

  78. Theodore Says:

@Capt Tim – You mean people sometimes win some, sometime lose some? That’s not how the internet works! You take all the fun out of trolling 😉

And you do bring up a good point: No salary floor killed Ruud’s chances of a big payday with the Bucs. Joe – Do you think there’s any truth to that?

  79. Eric Says:

Perhaps a more important question is whether whoever we have at ML can stop the Titans running game, or anyone elses.

    A disturbing question IMO.

  80. Capt.Tim Says:

Theodore- lmao. I’m not a troll( I hope), just a lil overly passionate bout the Bucs!

  81. BigMacAttack Says:

@Capt Tim, I love you too buddy. You fought hard for this one.

@m.wesley, appreciate the acknowledgement bro. It’s all good, we have football now, and I’m a Cappy Hamper. PS – I am really stupid. I’ve dealt with it my whole life, but I have a good time being that way.

@Mauha Deeb, you’re sweet and all of you are on the same side.

    @Eric, you’re stupid, literally…. or should I say Thomas.

  82. Shayne Says:

LOL, have fun with Ruud titans haha.. Who wants a player that expects a long term deal here with alot of money when all he ever did was make tackles no where close to the line of scrimmage.. Have a nice career Ruud, we might be missing you a little next year, but our defense will be in so much better shape in 2-4 years.

  83. SkookumSmitty Says:

Shall we sing Kum bayah, now?

    Love you guys.

mrwesley: Two things you should try-

    1) Punctuation
    2) Decaf

  84. m.wesley Says:

Skookum, when you are right you are right.
