Luke Stocker Is On Crutches

July 30th, 2011

Yesterday the Bucs — and Bucs fans — had a scare when wide receiver Mike Williams was carted off the practice field in agony. A collective sigh could be heard throughout the Tampa Bay region when it was learned he had only a painful cramp.

Today, the news may not be as pleasant.

Rookie tight end Luke Stocker is injured and could not practice today as he watched his fellow offensive lineman run through drills while leaning on crutches, so local sports anchor J.B. Long Twittered.

Bucs rookie TE Luke Stocker just hobbled out to practice on crutches. Not an encouraging sign for #Bucs fans. Will have more on TE Stocker’s condition after practice.

Hopefully, this is little more than a mildly sprained ankle. Joe was at practice yesterday and noticed no injury to Stocker. In fact, Stocker was making some nice catches running various routes, seemingly unhindered.

Update: Stocker is now classified as week-to-week with a hip injury.

The only thing I hate about camp, the inevitable injuries. hope we have some good luck this year.

I wish you could turn off injuries like in video games..

Already? I wonder if any of it has to do with the heat. Perhaps guys not eating right before practicing(Not loading up on salts, potassium, complex sugars etc) and their muscles and tendons are dehydrated and lacking nutrient rich deep blood flow leaving them not as supple and flexible. That can lead to some injuries in extremely hot environments by weakening the muscle and tendon fibers leading to tears, sprains, and strains.

The key would be proper prehydration.

Well it wasn’t winslow so that’s a good sign. But I hope we don’t have a season like 2003, that was a injury plague year. And it was mainly vets not rookies. Competition is a good thing.

  6. Dew Says:

Zach Miller is still available. Get him.

  7. Dan Says:

  8. Dan Says:

  9. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Stocker is week to week with hip injury.

He couldn’t catch for crap but hopefully that was just jitters. Hardy has great hands and Purvis impressed as well.

  11. Jrock Says:

    Did someone say Todd Heap?

  12. Shayne Says:

injured already.. wow :/ hopefully this injury isn’t serious and he can get back to practicing. Heap might be a good fit for us

  13. Bucs1Fan Says:

So much for this guy bringing security to the TE position. Winslow is our guy no matter what, Stocker is replaceable, lets bring in Heap and call it a day. Put the kid as a 3rd option and have him learn a year or two.

rookie trying too hard on the first day of camp…hope it is not serious…crutches….not good

  15. Dew Says:

We would be crazy not to go get Zach Miller. A complete Pro Bowl TE who is only 25 years old. What more do we want? The best FA still out there and another weapon for Free.

  16. Shayne Says:

@espo- where did you hear this? or did you watch the practice?

  17. Kevin Says:

@Espo – if you’re referring to Stocker – I strongly disagree. I was out there on Friday. He ran very fluid routes and I don’t recall seeing him drop a pass. Looked to have very sure hands.

  18. Bucs1Fan Says:

@Kevin- I was there on Friday also, and the Stocker dropped 2 balls in drills.
