Don’t Expect Big-Name Free Agency Veterans

June 27th, 2011

A lot of Bucs fans have clamored for Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik to throw wads of cash at convicted felon and former inmate Plaxico Burress to play wide receiver for the Bucs.

Never mind the reason why the Steelers cut him and the Giants quickly washed their hands of him once he was arrested for packing a loaded rod in his sweat pants in a packed night club, only to have the gun discharge and leave Burress with a hole in his leg. People actually believe in a 34-year old man (he’l be 34 when the NFL begins its 2011 season) who hasn’t played a game of football in two years.

Seems BSPN blogger Pat Yasinskas thinks this — and Dominik signing other big-named veteran free agents — is a pipe dream as much as Joe, so he noted in a recent chat hosted by the four-letter.

I read you article about how the Bucs are way below the salary cap, who do you think they will try to sign once free agency starts? Do you think that they will try to get Plax?

Pat Yasinskas

Plax? Think about it — he’s a 33-year-old WR. Bucs have bunch of good young WRs. They’re in a youth movement. Plax just doesn’t fit with what they’re doing.

I’m confused by your repeated appeals to the Bucs’ youth movement as a reason that they won’t be interested in older veterans. Doesn’t a team want some veterans to provide some leadership and experience?

Pat Yasinskas

They’ve got Ronde Barber. They’ve also got some good young leaders, mainly Josh Freeman.

Exactly. If the Bucs were in need of a veterans to help guide the young players, last year would have been it, when the Bucs fielded the youngest team in the NFL. And what did that team do? It went out and won 10 games.

So if the Bucs were able to get by quite well without veterans on the roster last year, exactly why would Dominik do a 180 this season? He wouldn’t.

So if people think Dominik is going to throw cash in the face of players like Burress, it isn’t happening.

I believe that the team is fine how it is currently, but I don’t see why the Bucs wouldn’t atleast send an offer towards Nnamdi. I’m sure if he came for a visit that Raheem would be able to relate better than basically any other coach in the league. If we did have Nnamdi and Talib on the outside I wouldn’t fear any passing game in the league.

I can’t believe anyone would want this guy on our team. Unless somehow, someway, every single rookie or 2nd year player that had game time last year finds a way to stay stagnant or regress, this team is going to be better than last. Why would you discard a formula that is clearly working for one that clearly hasn’t worked in two years? The Bucs gained so much experience and depth last year on all levels given the amount injuries and suspensions.

Williams, Benn, Briscoe, and Spurlock…… I’m pretty sure there are at least 25 other teams who wish they had this problem right now. I’m also pretty sure there are about 25 other teams that don’t want the problems that will come with Burress. Leave him be. We don’t need him.

I don’t think the Bucs should go anywhere near a guy who commits such a ghastly sin….namely wearing sweat pants in a nightclub.

Why would MD do a 180? Because he might have to due to a potential salary cap floor. And Plax is not even a consideration in my mind. But there are others. Aso is just one…

Joe ? Any chance of the info we been getting from the bloggers at bspn concerning signing any free agents is coming from the bucs higher up?…. to just blow smoke up our a**??… cuz i dont remember specifically when i heard but i was under the impression raheem wanted to dabble in free agency but then dominic comes out and says we aint….i hope its like its always has been for me holding out and saying i dont want and dont need something but given the chance to go buy im the first in line..

Only an idiot woulda throw money at Plaxico. But Coach Morris said in a march interview that the Bucs will be Very active in Free agency . Buff said

If you’re asking some guy at ESPN for news about the Bucs, you’re clearly already lost.

    ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!

Ike Taylor and Nnamdi Asomugha. I would like to see Tiki get a chance to play with Ronde, but the Bucs don’t need him and who knows if he has anything left in the tank. But if Cadi was to bolt, then maybe Tiki might be worth a look see. Ronde has a lot of pull with his good buddy Rah.

First of all, I don’t want him on our team. I think are receiving squad is set and I’m all for this “youth movement.”

Second, I actually do think that Plax can help a team out. A couple years off can do wonders for the daily aches and pains that you’d otherwise get daily. I just want that team to be another team.

snook already said it but i’ll repeat it. no true buc fan would even think it a half way decent idea to ask pat yasinskas a serious question about this team? besides that, what true bucs fan could possibly think plaxico burress is an option?
