Brian Price Not Running Yet

May 10th, 2011

Brian Price (center) still has a long road back to football

Rock star Bucs general manager Mark Dominik has said he’s not concerned about Brian Price returning from his ugly injury for the 2011 season.

Joe’s hardly as confident after reading the recent feature on Price from Steve Wyche of NFL.com. Not exactly inspiring.

“I’m just lifting weights, not running yet, but I might be able to start,” [Price] said. “It just depends on how I feel.”

How Price feels is one thing. How soon he should crank up his workload is another. Price has a high pain tolerance as he showed last season by playing through this injury that was sustained in a summer time mini-camp. The fractures weren’t discovered until after the fifth game. For the longest time the issue seemed to be his hamstrings, but the tug from the cracks in his pelvis was the real culprit.

He was placed on injured reserve shortly after Week 5.

Price’s desire to get going could trump his rehabilitation, which is why he’s trying to be cautious during a lockout in which he’s not under the care of Tampa Bay’s trainers and doctors. He is rehabilitating in Tampa, a decision he made on the day the lockout was lifted and players could have contact with team employees.

Call Joe crazy, but how did the Bucs medical staff misdiagnose Price for all those weeks? That a serious miss. It does happen, but these are presumably the same doctors the Bucs will rely on to assess Da’Quan Bowers and Adrian Clayborn, plus the pile of Bucs returning from significant injuries.

It’s May, so Joe’s going to try and keep a positive outlook on Price’s condition. Hopefully, he can get on the field and capture the early buzz at training camp again.

Joe suggests you read the entire NFL.com story. It’s revealed that Price is married to track star Candice Davis. Well done, Mr. Price.

If Price is healthy and dominating like he was briefly in training camp…this is going to be a very dangerous DLine.

Just get well though. I’d rather have you at 100% starting in Week 8 than 75% for the entire year.

  2. Tuggz Says:

One thing you can take from the article is his fantastic attitude. Man’s ready to get to work and dominate.

I agree Matt, Healthy Price for a potential playoff run! Take your time B P come back when the time is right.

Dr. Joe, I presume? Why do people keep harping on Clayborn like he’s going to need some sort of additional treatment to stay on the field? It’s been discussed numerous times, he was born with the condition and it can’t get worse. He’s played his entire career with it. He knows no other way and no one would be able to tell he had the condition by watching him play.

BUc’nAwesome your right on.. im so tired of hearing erbs palsy is an injury its a birth defect! the kid was playing with it when he had the big season when he had 10+ sacks last year he had a down year and its because the “injury” come on man.. the media flashes too much light on things sometimes and blows them out of proportion

  6. Dave Says:

Candice Davis… is that why he broke his pelvis?

    had to be said….

  7. eric Says:

A fractured pelvis went undiscovered till week five?

    Whoops.

Did the Glazer boys sell the x-ray machine?

  8. Joe Says:

A fractured pelvis went undiscovered till week five?

Yeah, you would think an MRI would be able to pick that up.

Provided Price was given an MRI.

    Whoops indeed.

    Dude married a hurdler???

  10. Jrock Says:

Cool story, I’m glad he got to meet with the team for a day and get with good doctors to help his recovery. He’s staying in Tampa instead of LA now so whenever this debacle gets de-bacled he’ll be ready to work!

I read a story from a poster on PR mssg board and he stated Brian Price was at a country club or yaucht club about 2 weeks ago and said he met Brian and his wife.

But he said BP was playing volleyball in the sand and knocked a dude down that tried to spike on his side of the net.

Truth … I dont know but playing Volleyball would be a good sign.

  12. Roger Says:

Hey Joe, if you remember correctly BP got the imjury his senior year at UCLA. That means every team misdiagnosed him, and thats because it is an uncommon injury.

    Joe here,

If you read this article linked above from NFL.com, it says Price got this injury during 2010 preseason.

  14. jvato24 Says:

Price got hurt the very 1st rookie Camp

I think it’s a little silly to try and assume what the medical staff did or didn’t do or did or didn’t know regarding Price. This is the same staff the has allowed Cadillac to return from two know injuries while successfully managing Winslow. No offense Joe, but I think I’ll trust them over whatever that degree says hanging on your wall.

  16. BigMacAttack Says:

Candice Davis, Jump on it, jump on it….

Easy…Price is the kind of guy that would say there’s only a little stiffness and slight pain just so he can play. If that were the case, they would have let him rest a little, but would not have run serious tests on him.
