Schefter: Bucs “Favorite” For Tiki Barber

March 10th, 2011

Appearing on the of the most overrated sports radio shows in America, Mike and Mike, Adam Schefter of BSPN explains why Tiki Barber will likely end up playing for the Bucs.

Interesting what a probing, scrubbed interview this was. Neither of the bozos — one of which has a journalism degree from Northwestern of all places — nor Schefter explain why Tiki is broke and making a return to the NFL. Geez.

On the subject of Mike and Mike, when a market the size of the Tampa Bay area which has three sports radio stations and the best morning drive time option is Mike and Mike, there is a glaring, significant, major problem.

Thank God for Sirius NFL Radio, Rivals Radio and the King of All Media. “Raise your fist!”

No! No! No! There is a reason we are the youngest team in the NFL, because we have young, amazing players who are playing not just for money, but for pride and love of the game! I love Ronde with all my heart, but I DO NOT WANT Tiki there, we do not need him!!! Raheem or Dominik, if you are reading this, NO!!!!!!! NO TIKI!!!!

  2. Adam Says:

As much as I love and respect Ronde, I really do not wish to have his twin on the squad just for the sake of it. How are we going to maintain this youth movement we have going on by signing a dinosaur of a RB?

With all due respect Tiki, you have had your time.

  3. nick Says:

This would be the second coming of Charlie Garner

  4. Gary Says:

no way this happens… dom would lose all the respect he has earned so far from the fans.

but it is worrying that schefter thinks he will end up here, he is usually good with this kind of info. lets just hope this is all smoke and no fire.

  5. buc40 Says:

@JOE..suppose they did do this nonsense signing. What role do you see tiki in? and for how many snaps?

  6. aldo Says:

i hope all this be a joke, seriously, no reason to bring tiki to tampa, also, why teams putting tiki on tampa??? just cuz ronde play here??? thats BS!!!! if the bucs would love to have an old RB on the team, they would offer something to ladainian tomlinson or thomas jones!!!!!!! i hope dominick dont screw his reputation with tiki, no ofense to tiki

  7. Posey99 Says:

I’m on the fence about it. I like the idea. It’s their last year I’m sure. The thing about the barbers is they are really really smart and instinctive and very athletic. He could help us. I wouldnt give him very much money at all. If we did sign him would that mean Lorig would be the odd man out?

  8. Macabee Says:

The very thought of this tugs at my heart strings and reaches my emotional center, cause I love them two dudes! But this goes against everything the Bucs are trying to do right now. So we should enjoy this for what it is – a great conversational piece, then move on. However, if I gotta take an old dude, then I want Barry Sanders!

Joe said: “when a market the size of the Tampa Bay area which has three sports radio stations and the best morning drive time option is Mike and Mike, there is a glaring, significant, major problem.”

Joe, I always had you pegged as an MJ in the morning fan

  10. bucyea Says:

this regime let Derrick Brooks go, how would it look to bring a malcontent, diva like Tiki in, when they released Brooks. this does not work on EVERY level. Dominik would lose all the good will he’s gained IMO. This would go against everything the Bucs are doing. I’d rather have a hungry undrafted FA than Tiki. This is no more than a publicity stunt, IMO.

  11. oar Says:

    Note to Travis;
That’s not a picture of Ronde! Although, you might want to ask Common?

  12. McBuc Says:

OK OAR…You have my vote for funniest poster on JBF.

  13. McBuc Says:

Creamsicle…The pasties made me chuckle, the hammock scars the crap out of me.

  14. TampaTwo Says:

No way this happens. We have our starter in Blount, our third down back in Caddy and Huggy or a draft pick to be the change of pace/speed back.

This is exactly why I don’t follow the Nat’l media with regards to our team. Clueless.

  15. Joe Says:

    CreamsicleBananaHammock:

Never heard the guy on his morning show. Joe doesn’t do FM morning shows. All of them are wannabe Howard Sterns. Why listen to a wannabe when you can listen to the one-and-only original?

  16. Joe Says:

    buc40:

No idea how many carries but guessing he would be in Caddy’s role.

  17. Theodore Says:

I tried a dozen times to give the Dan Patrick Show a chance and every time I’m bored out of mind within 5 minutes. He has to be the most uninteresting person on our local sports radio.

Where’s Clevis when you need him?

  18. Dave Says:

Caddy can do what he will bring to the table.
Also, if they want to get another back, i wouold prefer them drafting a speedster in round 4-6 who can play special teams, highly doubt Tiki is going to want to do that.

  19. Joe Says:

    Posey99:

Joe’s on the fence as well. Last time a decent running back took a few years off and came back was Ricky Williams. Look what happened there.

Not sure if Tiki would a decent blocker because he certainly won’t be a go-to running back. Biggest problem Joe sees is that it doesn’t appear Tiki was a great teammate the way his former teammates mock him. Wasn’t it the year after he left the Giants they won the Super Bowl?

There’s a reason why Tiki is coming back and it isn’t the love of the game. Do some research if you want to know why, which also concerns Joe.

IF they do go that route, it would be Caddy who is shown the door since they would be in the same limited role

  21. Capt. Troll killer Tim Says:

Contrary to our normal mode of operation, let’s not panic or overreact.
IF they sign him, it means nothing. He goes to camp and gets a tryout. When he left the game, he was arguably the best back in the NFL. Meybe he has something left.

  22. eric Says:

Would be like when the Lightning had a woman playing goalie, or maybe when we had Dexter Manley.

    Neither worked very well.

  23. Rob Says:

    Dan Sileo Sucks!

  24. oar Says:

    McBuc
Just trying to keep the humor alive!

  25. oar Says:

We might as well have Hershel Walker come in for a tryout! I heard he wants to make a comeback too.
I agree with macabee and would rather have Barry Sanders as my “old dude”!

  26. McBuc Says:

Why not Ricky Bell, for old time sake!

  27. SkookumSmitty Says:

Hell, I hear Larry Csonka is available.

  28. WeNeedDefense Says:

If the Bucs sign Tiki all because of Ronde then I will officially stop being a Buccaneers fan until we get management with some competence.

Tiki left his wife who was 8 months pregnant for an intern that got Tiki fired from NBC.

He is broke dck now and severely needs money. That’s why he wants a payday… he screwed up his broadcasting career. Nice job moron. The tiki has officially flamed out.

Tiki has waaay too much baggage to be coming to Tampa and rotting away this clubhouse with his cancer.

Makes you wonder if Ronde stipulated that he would only resign if they signed Tiki too?

  29. Capt. Troll killer Tim Says:

Ok, I guess we are going with over react!
It doesn’t mean anything if they sign him. We don’t have a player limit during the off season. They couldsign 20 old riunning backs. All it means is they get a look during OTAs and training camp. If they still have skill, meybe they stay. If not- they get cut.

Gawd- some of you panic over the dumbest and most irrelevant stuff. Who cares who gets signed now- the more the merrier. It’s the final 53 that matter. And the cut down is 4 months off- hopefully

  30. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“If the Bucs sign Tiki all because of Ronde then I will officially stop being a Buccaneers fan until we get management with some competence.”

    ——-

Okay, now I’m really torn. At first, I didn’t want him, but if us signing Tiki gets rid of a dumb arse fan, then I may change my mind. Let’s sign Tiki Barber immediately! By the way, how many times are you going to mention the fact he left his wife? Please tell us again, we might all forget.

It’s also nice that you know his financial situation. Are you his accountant? Do you somehow have access to his financial records? Three things I really can’t stand people doing: 1. Judge people as if they are high and mighty 2. Talk about something that they really know nothing about; 3. Do nothing but complain day in and day out. WeNeedDefense, you have managed to successfully do all three with virtually every worthless, moronic post you make.

  31. UKbucsfan Says:

I don’t think we should go anywhere near Tiki….like Tampa2 says “We have our starter in Blount, our third down back in Caddy and Huggy or a draft pick to be the change of pace/speed back.”

BUT…i think it’s a bit hypocritical a lot of the moral judgements being passed. Don’t get me wrong, the guy messed up, and the way he treated his wife is unacceptable, but WeNeedDefence suggesting that would make him a cancer in the locker room is nothing short of ridiculous.
