Talib Deserves The Pro Bowl?

December 8th, 2010

When the 2010 season goes in the books, Aqib Talib will have played in less than two-thirds of the Bucs’ action.

But Raheem Morris thinks Talib’s done enough this season to earn himself an uneventful cab ride to the airport and a trip to Hawaii.

“I think Aqib’s an elite corner and played at a Pro Bowl level this year. And probably should still go to the Pro Bowl,” Raheem said at his press conference today. “He’s still got six picks and probably played some of the best football we’ve seen him play.”

Talib is a stud talent, but in Joe’s mind Talib doesn’t deserve a Pro Bowl nod. He’ll have missed too much time and dropped too many near picks.

Now every Bucs fan knows Raheem has Talib’s back all the time — maybe even too much in the case of Talib’s hotel tirade last year and his reported threat of violence against a referree after the Bucs-Ravens game.

With this Pro Bowl talk, Joe thinks Raheem is going overboard. Goodness, the coach even referenced a statistic (gasp) to make a case for Talib.

Talib has no shot of making it. Maybe next year, Talib.

Definitely not going to happen. I’m not sure if it would have happened if he played in every game. The Pro Bowl is a popularity contest, and he’s just not that popular yet. Most people that I know (that’s not a Bucs fan) has never even heard of him, or even seen him play (since the Bucs are never on TV throughout the country). It’s unfortunate, but true.

    @ Joe

why not? What Talib did in 10 1/2 games others couldn’t achieve in 16. Easily one of if not tha best CB in tha NFC and top 5 overall in tha league. His off field issues will weigh more in voters minds than his level of play. Other than Asante Samuel, who else deserves is a legitimate Pro Bowl CB spot ova Talib?

  3. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Unfortunately, it’s not who deserves it that usually gets in, it’s who is more of a household name. I think he is deserving, but it will not happen.

  4. aldo Says:

i want to someone call 3 best CB at least in the NFC than talib

    Joe here,

    @The Truth is and Aldo

Writing off the top of his head, aside from Samuel, Joe’s quite sure you’ll get a lot of Giants fans saying the Terrell Thomas kid is a Pro Bowler, also in his third year like Talib. He’s all over the field. D’Angelo Hall in Washington has more picks, but Joe’s only seen the Skins once this season.

  6. Pete 422 Says:

I don’t care, just win games.

  7. aldo Says:

with all due respect joe, but only asante samuel would be better, at least he was factor, de angelo hall is overrated and was in front of the pick machine cutler, in the league theres not a perfect CB, and talib is easy in the top 5

  8. Sensiblebuc Says:

Shrewd PR move by Rah. Get his name out there for the Pro Bowl now, reap the publicity benefits in 2011 and beyond.

  9. McBuc Says:

I would rather see some rings on his fingers than pro bowl nods, and I bet he would too.

  10. christopher Says:

If stats are for losers, @ least stats should be used for the Pro Bowl, where nobody (but the fans! ;o) wins…
If Talib is still in the top 3 in the NFC in INT @ the end of the year, I say he deserves to go to the Pro Bowl. A Pro Bowl nod gets on the resume, & helps determine HOF status @ the end, rightly or wrongly.
Coaches & players determine 2/3rds of the vote too, so if they think Talib was one of the 3 best corners in the NFC(& he was), then he just might go.
    BTW—a dropped interception is still a deflected pass & a non-completion…

  11. thomas 2.1 Says:

I have a feeling that the only “bowl” that Talib will be participating in going forward will include Tanard Jackson, Jeramy Stevens and a loop of Ice Cube movies!

  12. McBuc Says:

Thomas 2.1…You really are a freaking jack arse.

  13. thomas 2.1 Says:

You know you chuckled before you commented.

  14. aldo Says:

thomas 2.1, STFU, or u want a piece of me?? asshole!!!!!

  15. thomas 2.1 Says:

    brilliant aldo.

  16. gitarlvr Says:

Joe- the dropped picks have nothing to do with it. ALL defensive backs drop picks on a regular basis. As the saying goes if they could catch they would be wide receivers. Even wide receivers drop balls on a regular basis that are INTENDED for them. When HOF wide recievers like T.O. drop easy passes that hit them in the numbers on a semi-regular basis how can you exclude Talib from the pro-bowl on the same basis? The lack of games played is a more reasonable issue but pro-bowl voting has already been going on and based on his play thus far he should be in.

  17. Dylan Says:

    @ joe

Talib is a top 5 corner in the league, like deon sanders said about samuel being overrated, he is a off set corner, And the best at it. He doesn’t constantly take on the #1 receiver like a revis, ndamdi or talib. Talib is only in his 3rd season and has like what 16pics? He is much deserve of the pro bowl, just like raheem stated. He has been suspended this year and last year and now is hurt. Lets not add in his “dropped pics” he could easily have 20 by now. Deangelo hall is overrated. 4 pics in one game.. what has he done since. Talib is the most valuable player the bucs have on defence. 9th in the league. Now that Him,grimm and tanard are done its gonna be pretty ugly. Idk why you would want to put down his pro bowl potential and dis agree with Raheem. He see’s him everyday at practice and in the film room. Talib I personally think is the heart of the defense. And the best defensive player we have. Him and gerald mccoy are the “building Blocks” And Idk about what everyone else thinks. But talib in my opinion deffinatly deserves a trip to hawaii

  18. Architek Says:

He deserves a trip but with 4 games remaining other corners numbers will trumph his. It’s unfortunate but its the game.

  19. Jamie Says:

Talib won’t make it because he’s a Buccaneer. If you don’t have a ridiculous season as a Buc, you won’t make it. Talib would have to earn comparisons to Revis and Asomugha, or Bailey in his prime, before he made it.

  20. Jamie Says:

Three better CBs in the NFC? Asante Samuel, Charles Woodson, Dunta Robinson. You want I should keep going?

  21. eric Says:

Lots of bucs have made the pro bowl. Usually a lag time of a year or two of elite play before you are allowed in the club. He certainly has the physical tools, but I still worry a bit about his temper.

Wish we had him down the stretch.

  22. Ash Says:

The only thing to consider would be a “what if”. What if Talib played out the season and projected his stats as such. No first time Pro Bowler makes it with going on IR with 4 games to play unless your doing truly amazing stuff. If he played the whole season? I think he would have a GOOD chance at making it. Go look at the other corners in the NFC. Asante Samuel and Charles Woodson are locks and to be safe I’ll even say Deangelo Hall. Who’s next? Its clearly Talib and if he continued to perform I say he would have made it.

  23. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Dunta Robinson, uh, no. Exactly how many interceptions does Robinson have this year? I’ll give you a hint, it’s the same as me and you combined. No forced fumbles, no sacks, and only 36 tackles. Talib is not going, but he’s got a better chance than Robinson.

  24. Gary Says:

    Wow,

A legitmate question posed by Joe and the first thing Thomas can think of is Talib smoking his way into more trouble; which would be disastrous for our future.

    You are truly a doucebag.

I really wonder what people would do if they saw you on the street after all the BS you have vomited onto your keyboard.

Lets say for example that one of the “sheep” was sitting next to you at the game and saw you pull up JBF on your iphone and said “cool, I love that site. I post comments all the time.” And you responded with “Me too, I’m Thomas 2.1” …. well let me just tell you, this sheep would slap you like the little bitch you are!

  25. oar Says:

Boys, boys, keep that up and Joe is gonna take away your blanket at nap time! And, its too damn COLD for that!

  26. Jamie Says:

I actually agree with you, Hawaiian, but Dunta Robinson has name recognition. Talib deserves a Pro Bowl this year, but undeserving players like Robinson will get it first.

  27. gitarlvr Says:

Dunta Robinson is not going to the prow-bowl. He’s not even remotely in the conversation. Brent Grimes has more chance of going to the pro-bowl than Dunta Robinson.
