More Winslow A Must

October 16th, 2010

Joe sniffed around tight end stats on NFL.com and saw Kellen Winslow parked at No. 17 on the list of receptions among NFL tight ends.

Winslow has no touchdowns.

Yeah, the Bucs are winning. Yeah, Winslow has made huge third-down catches. And Raheem Morris says stats are for losers. But Joe knows Winslow has got to have bigger numbers for the Bucs to be successful. He absolutely has to.

Winslow’s knees are suspect. There’s no reason to save him. This is his prime.

Joe hasn’t seen or heard anything that would lead him to believe Winslow is having trouble getting open. He appears at the top of his game. Mike Williams is now having problems with his foot.

Joe hopes Greg Olson starts feeding the Bucs’ most talented receiver.

    I agree, the Bucs need to get the most out of K2 now while they have the chance.

    On the subject of tight ends and what will happen when K2 is done. I was thinking yesterday, why not use Mo Stovall at tight end at some point. He is a very physical player. He is listed an inch taller than K2, but 20 pounds lighter. What about bulking him up a bit? Just an idea.

    ^Use Mo Stovall at TE?! LOLLL

  3. Pete 422 Says:

    Just a thought, didn’t say it was a good idea.

    Look at it this way, we’re 3-1 without utilizing K2 to the fullest. Let that be part of the progression this year. As he gets more catches and even some TDs, that can only be a good thing, right? Maybe when we start getting him the ball in the red zone, it’ll be because they’re taking away the other threats (Williams/Stroughter/Spurlock). That should leave K2, Benn, Caddy, Graham with more room to work and we can keep winning games. That’s the beauty of having so much young talent, when they take away one red zone target, you’ve got more to go to. I don’t see it as a bad thing that we’ve been winning without TDs to Winslow.

    I bet Stovall could run block better than K2. Also, with K2 not catching passes from Freeman at OTA’s Training Camp and Preseason, He will never have a fast start. No chemistry. Just like we need a high pick on a running back. We also need a complete Tightend that will develop with Freeman.

    @Pete 422

    Despite what Amar says, thats not a bad idea. Donald Lee and Ernest Wilford have extended their careers by converting to receiving TEs so it’s been done before. He looks like he’s got the frame to add more weight, hes got the hands of a receiver (obviously) and he’s the consummate tough guy when healthy. Like I said, not a bad idea.

    Winslow is like that classic car you only bring out on the weekends. It has some good life left, but only if you baby it and only occasionally step on the gas. The Bucs have been shuttling him in when it matters most. The results so far have been game changing; clutch catches mostly on third and longs. You want Winslow for the entire season because even though it is unlikely; with a win against the Saints & Rams the Bucs have to consider the fact (as unlikely as it may be) that they could make it to the post season. I’m not getting ahead of myself; just saying that most 5-1 teams make it to the playoffs.

    @Seniblebuc

    The reason I bring that up the Stovall thing is the fact we already have him and know what he can do. he is big, physical, can catch and block. It is hard to find an impact/complete tight end.

    stovall is as good as gone. dont you think that they would have tried to convert him to a te before they started on lorig? stovall has been a healthy scratch the last couple games. everybody on the roster has passed him by.

    Was just curious when I was at the Bengals game K2 seemed a little distance from the team when the team went in before the game started he was the only player not to go in the locker room just seemed like he was doing his own thing even when the team was warming up

  13. Capt.Tim Says:

    Stovall can’t stay healthy – ever! It’s to bad, seems like he had some talent. They are using Wilsow correctly. No changes needed :)!

  14. Gary Says:

    Mo breaks to easy to be te. What’s the deal with k2 anyway? Why can’t he block? He is big physical and definitely has the attitude. He should be sick at both. Is it the knees?
