Health Still Questionable Along O-Line

October 28th, 2010

Joe knows the Bucs nailed the winning drive Sunday with the likes of backups James Lee and rookie Ted Larsen on the offensive line, along with backup center Jeremy Zuttah.

Joe doesn’t want to think of the Bucs having to play an entire game with that group, but that might be what lies ahead Sunday.

Jeremy Trueblood (knee), who Lee replaced late against the Rams, didn’t practice yesterday, and neither did left guard Keydrick Vincent, who missed Sunday’s game with back spasms. Jeff Faine will be out at least a few more weeks.

If the Bucs can win this group, it’s more gold stars from the coaching staff and front office.

No one’s mistaking Vincent or Trueblood for guys who are ever going to make a pro-bowl so I don’t minds seeing what these other guys can do. I do worry about the penalties though. Really other than penalties both those guys performed just fine. But its always the penalties with inexperienced guys no matter how well they play the rest of the game.

I wonder how Brandon Carter is doing on the practice squad. It would be great to get another steal from another team’s practice squad this year. If Larsen has to play and continues to struggle with penalties, I’d rather see Carter get a chance until Vincent is healthy. Larsen is the guy for this week, just saying if he struggles again and Vincent can’t come back next week.

SGW94 seems to think that Lee could be better than Trueblood. It wouldn’t surprise me…

  4. BamBamBuc Says:

FGO, I read that as well, and it also wouldn’t surprise me. Looks like we may get the opportunity to see him play a full game this week. Not looking forward to a make-shift line all game, but I’d like to see Lee this week. It’d just be better if Faine or Vincent were in there too.

  5. Gary Says:

Lee being better than Truefool wouldn’t surprise you guys? I will take it one step further and say I expect him to be better.

If he can cut down the holding penalties in his 2nd start, he WILL be better because we know he isnt going to lie in wait and then at the worst possble time unleash a barrage of stupidity that costs us the game with unsportsmalike, roughing, whatever penalties!!!

  6. Gary Says:

whatever happened to Dotson the BBall player that everyone was hyping up. He can’t play RT?

  7. New Era Buc Says:

Dotson is on Injured Reserve. I also have a good feeling with Lee starting. Like already stated, Steve White thinks he has the potential

  8. BigMacAttack Says:

The Bucs have a good shot in Arizona, but the Defense has to step up all 4 quarters. With the new kids on O line it is going to be interesting, but I hope they are the answer and that the True, Vince & Faine don’t play another down for the Bucs. I like Carter too, and Davin needs to look out because he is the next one to go if he doesn’t improve his game.

Time to see what the young guys can do. They will be excited and energized – out to prove they belong. Let’s just hope they do.

  10. Kevin Says:

Trueblood has worn out his welcome with me. The countless penalties at the most in opt times and the off season drunk beligerent behavior while his mommy drives him around. Nuff said.

  11. Capt.Tim Says:

Yeah, despite the mistaks, Larsen and Lee looked great last game I also want to see Brandon Carter

  12. Not A Rocket Surgeon Says:

I think the cards are going to get a heavy dose of Blount… I think the oline will ‘do’ with any of the guys in … but Dockett is fast and powerful. True can’t do the fast guys, not enough footwork.

  13. Capt.Tim Says:

Really wish Dotson was healthy, he’s good great atheletism. If he learns the posistion, he’s a huge monster with great speed! Larsen will be a good center. Zuttah has played well at center also. Brandon Carter, Derek Hardman, and James Lee are also guys that look promising! Next year, we may have a good line, with good depth! Agree 100% with BigMacAttack- Joseph came out highly drafted and highly regarded. Not sure he’s playing up to either! But I do believe Penn is playing some solid ball on his side. I actually hope we can get some positions on the line settled this year, so maybe the line returns intact for next year

  14. nano107 Says:

Lee & larsen played well aside from the penalties. I would go with them again!!!

  15. Pete Dutcher Says:

If there is one part of this team I’m feeling negative on, it’s the offensive line.

At least on the defensive line, we know they will get better over time. With Oline, even when the starters are healthy, they suck.

We badly need an upgrade there if we want to make the playoffs.
