Darnell Dockett Fired Up For Raheem, Bucs

October 30th, 2010

Joe just knew this was coming.

When Raheem Morris took the pulpit after the Bucs rallied with two second half touchdowns to beat the Rams, boasting loudly and proudly how the Bucs were the masters of the NFC, it was a calculated gamble.

Sure, the confidence Morris displayed before all to see and hear might give his young players more confidence to continue winning.

It also might be the verbal equivalent of kicking a sleeping dog.

It appears, the latter might be happening.

Cardinals defensive lineman Darnell Dockett, a man not shy about turning to Twitter, sounded off this evening about the Bucs and Morris’ self-proclaimed title he gave his team.

@ddockett I’m so excited to play against the “BEST TEAM IN THE NFC” tommorow! ITS ON!! *raise glass TOAST*

Gulp.

This is just what Joe feared, and fears for tomorrow. To say the Bucs have patchwork offensive line Sunday is being kind, with Keydrick Vincent cut, Jeff Faine and Jeremy Trueblood both on the mend. There are few better defensive linemen in the league than Dockett.

Just what the Bucs need, Dockett to be on a mission against guys who were practice squad players a few weeks ago.

That line did lead the winning drive on Sunday. That line also opened some holes for the run game. Am I sold on “that line?” No, but a healthy run game early can go a long way.

  2. Buc You Says:

If the Bucs coaching staff had a clue, they would give them a heavy and steady dose of Blount.

  3. Patrick Says:

Raheem really didn’t need to make that comment earlier this week. Very likely he’ll be eating his words after just one game.

  4. gitarlvr Says:

Yeah this whole comment by Raheem has become such a mountain made out of a mole hill. Players don’t magically have another reservoir of energy and effort to tap into that they save for when an opponent says something excitable. The whole concept of bulletin board material is laughable. Just run Legarrette Blount enough times, don’t turn the ball over and hopefully no amount of effort from Darnell Dockett will change the outcome of the game.

  5. Patrick Says:

And also, was Vincent really that bad to where we had to cut him right now?? I’d rather have him starting then a bunch of practice squad guys. Maybe Vincent wasn’t that good, but we did win 4 games with him.

Of course Dockett is fired up when he looks at the line he’ll be playing tomorrow. I just hope that Faine and Trueblood both get healthy ASAP so that a promising season doesn’t go to waste because of line issues.

  6. Sensiblebuc Says:

Meh. Dockett has been known to pop off at the mouth over any little thing. If it wasn’t this it wouldve been that he was so hype to play the game because he wants to avenge FSU’s loss yesterday. No biggie.

  7. Steve From Oregon Says:

Ive never been a big believer in chalk board material. Yes, Docket is good and the one person you have to scheme against on their team, at this point I have enough faith in the team that they are not going to let one player beat them…..doesnt faze me at all and im sure the quote unquote practice players/backups that we have playing could care less about Dockett.

I think this will be our best game of the season in all phases of the game.

  8. Danbucsfan Says:

There will be no need for a come from behind victory this weekend! It might be a close game, but this victory will get people talking about the Buc’s!

  9. BigMacAttack Says:

Cut block him early. Have the fullback chip him low. Double team him and don’t leave Davin on an island. The Bucs have to key on 2 guys and they know it, Dockett & Fitzgerald. Double team them both. Put 8 in the box to stop the run leaving 1 safety and dare them to pass the ball.

  10. safety Says:

I’ll bet our D line plays better than their D line.

  11. PTR Says:

If you don’t believe you’re the best…You will never be the best. To be the best u gotta beat the best. Blah Blah Blah…..I worry more about a coach that says his team is terrible. Go Rah!! Win Lose or Draw you have to keep believing you’re the best. Which coach do you want coaching the team you will pay to travel 75 miles to watch on TV or to watch only on the internet? The one that believes his team is the best or one who thinks they suck??? Get a clue people… He said on TV what he and every other good coach says in practice everyday!

  12. Max Says:

He’s a overrated dirty loudmouth. He won’t do jack against us.

  13. Amar Says:

Exactly what and who I was worried about in the comment I made in “keep the streak alive” news update.

  14. George C. Costanza Says:

I’ll see your tweet, Mr. Dockett, and raise you a Blount.

  15. Rican Says:

    lol awesome George

  16. New Era Buc Says:

    Max Hall still Sucks

  17. JDouble Says:

Talk is talk. Even if Dockett gets to freeman, freeman is almost as big as Dcokett, He’ll just push him off and throw it to Mike Williams or Winslow. Tell Dockett to take his 32nd ranked defense and STFU. I’m betting the Bucs have more sacks than than Arizona tomorrow, even with our rag tag offensive line.

Also, Blount will knock Dockett on his ass atleast once tomorrow, while rushing for 100+yards

  18. Capt.Tim Says:

I played sports on different levels. As an athelete, you are always trying to find more reasons to get “pumped up!”. But honestly, it really made much difference. The only thing I found that really seemed to take me to another level was the guy I faced. Once it while, an opponent would affect your play. But even then, wasn’t a big deal. If you are in the NFL, you pretty much hit it at 100%, 100% of the time. And I never really saw any 110%, 150%, etc BS ya hear about. I don’t care who you play. Everyone in The NFL can Burt you if you aren’t “on”. Well, meybe not Max Hall, lol, least I hope not!

  19. FIRE GREG OLSON! Says:

Seriously, Dockett’s just reeling off that FSU choke job on Thursday night. J-Freeze will bang heads with you, leaving you dazed on the mat.

Darnell Dockett is just that Double-D’s…one big boob…

  20. Sensiblebuc Says:

    @ FGO

    J. Freeze?!? I’m using that one. Lol

  21. gt40bear Says:

Yes, it was a stupid comment but what is Dockett going to do, play dirtier than he usually does?
