Entering “Dangerous Michael Clayton Territory”

August 18th, 2010

In the latest edition of the TBO.com Bucs Video Blog, beat writers Woody Cummings and Anwar Richardson engage in some intelligent debate about Derrick Ward’s future as as Buccaneer.

Richardson talks about the likelihood of Ward getting cut, explaining that Ward quickly is approaching “the dangerous Michael Clayton territory.”

It’s fun viewing, so check it out.

Joe thinks the likelihood of Ward getting cut rivals the chances of Joe being invited to the Playboy mansion this weekend for a Jell-O wrestling party.

I think he makes the team only because of the investment they made in him. The guy had ONE good year. ONE! and that was ona team where Brandon Jacobs had worn down and soften up the defense. That one decent year seems like ancient history now. I didn’t like the signing when we did it, I don’t like it now. He’s fatter and slower than ever. I wished we’d just put EG back at HB where he belongs and let Taylor and Pressley duke it out for the FB spot. Screw Ward.

  2. McBuc Says:

I liked the signing at the time, but maybe I should have listened to Jbouble last year…

  3. McBuc Says:

Jdouble, that was not sarcasm, I really thought he would have worked out better, but I think you hit it on the head.

  4. Patrick Says:

If Ward fails, I won’t be too worried. We’ve still got Earnest Graham and Kareem Huggins showed promise on Saturday. But it would be stupid to cut ties with him now, and it would be even dumber to release him when we could for sure trade him and get something in return. I think we could get a 5th rounder for him, but even if we don’t, something is better than nothing.

  5. Not A Rocket Surgeon Says:

I’d expect him to get a lot of reps saturday vs KC.

What if he runs well? Do we keep him still? I think they have to…

Personally, I don’t think the guy has the heart… but he gets his shot over the next couple preseason games.

If he goes, he’s going to get traded to a team that has no RB’s on their roster and if that team isn’t a playoff contender, I’d expect the same amount of effort from him as we are rapidly becoming accustomed to seeing.

  6. Patrick Says:

Maybe the Rams would take him. I think Steven Jackson needs some help.

  7. McBuc Says:

Hey Joe, those Clayton waters can take a long time to navigate. If ward is entering them, he has several more years to try and make it out!

  8. eric Says:

Joe, they might have invited you to the mansion if it wasn’t for that last incident.

Rare someone is hospitalized for drooling.

  9. Capt.Tim Says:

    Eric- Lmao!

  10. Hugh Hefner Says:

All is forgiven over the drool incident.

Please come visit us this weekend, and bring your sound guy Smitty with you. He was a BLAST, and the girls are dying to see hear his Bill Clinton impression, again.

I dont know if they would trade for him, but Houston could use a back. Tate is probably out for the season for them and Slaton isnt an every down back. Kinda would make sense I think.

  12. Trguy12 Says:

Eric, if by drooling you meant wackin it then I agree!

  13. Danbucsfan Says:

If they can trade him for somebody younger with potential value…DO IT!!
