Arrelious Benn Signing Imminent

July 27th, 2010

It seems Mark Dominik is about to ink yet another drafted player. Joe’s good friend Jason La Canfora, of NFL.com, is reporting via his Twitter feed that a deal with wide receiver Arrelious Benn is about to happen.

@JasonLaCanfora: Bucs making good progress with 2nd round pick Arrelious Benn. Deal could be done today. WR could start right away.

This is very good news in Joe’s eyes. Joe believes that Benn is a sleeper and it seems others do too. The sooner Benn can be signed, the better.

    Yes… Rejus is righteous. lol

    (Always like good news.)

What’s the deal with Grimm? Dude needs to sign.

With Bradford ‘close’ – our man GMC won’t be far behind.

  2. big007hed Says:

Seriously what is the issue with Grimm?

Glad to see Benn will be signing soon we need everyone in camp!!

Get the Mccoy deal done quickly!!!!!

  3. bucsrthebest Says:

I think Grimm is waiting because of “The Fringe” on nfl.com.

I am liking what I hear about Mr. Benn.

    Benn has been signed…

Buccaneers signed second-round WR Arrelious Benn to a four-year contract, including a $2.1 million signing bonus.

Uh oh, he got guaranteed money . . . someone must have gotten a loan.

  7. big007hed Says:

Where did you guys see that he signed?

Buccaneers signed second-round WR Arrelious Benn to a four-year contract, including a $2.1 million signing bonus.

Though he was overshadowed by fourth-rounder Mike Williams in OTAs, Benn’s after-the-catch ability should play better in full contact drills. Like Williams, he’ll have to beat out veterans Michael Clayton and Reggie Brown for a starting role. There’s a good chance both rookies will do so.

JimBuc, you remember that bake sale Patrick was having for the Glazers, back when he thought they were broke? Now we know where the money went! Thanks patty! By the way, I posted this morning that Benn would sign today. To my knowledge, that was prior to anyone else! Think I got ” the Scoop on that one! Tada!

We keep hearing Mike Williams is fast and he probably is, but Benn is no slouch. He ran a 4.48 40 at the combine and at the Pro-Day at Illinois, he ran a 4.36 and a 4.39. Williams must be a blazer.

  11. eric Says:

Welcome aboard Mr. Benn. Play well young man.

  12. JimBuc Says:

Hey Eric — the new AB jut signs with the Bucs while the old AB gets replaced by TO. Rumors of the old AB going to the PUP list. Boy that Dom sure is a smart guy!

  13. Pete Dutcher Says:

I suspect in the next few days all of our draft picks will be signed. McCoy might be a Friday signing, but he’ll be here the first day of camp.

  14. BigMacAttack Says:

    Shoot, I could run a 4.48 in my sleep…uh I mean in my dreams. It’s really a 4.27.

Will AB give T.O. the #81 jersey???? Hmmm, since he’ll be on IR, might as well.

  15. eric Says:

Notice the “hater” wished our new player well, while the “lovers” are all excited about the prospect of a man being injured.

    Says a lot.

I like what I hear about Benn as well, Eric. The only negative thing I’ve heard about him was leading up to the draft, it was said he had trouble holding onto the ball, dropping passes (although, footage from college I’ve seen…. and I’m a Big Ten fan…. most of those “drops” were bad throws that were “barely” catchable anyway. I think Williams (spectacular catches and speed) and Benn (big target, good RAC) should produce a nice tandem once they’ve acclimated to the NFL.

I also think I’m liking what I’m NOT hearing about Benn. He seems to be fairly quiet, not drawing too much press, while simply going out and doing his job. Good to see in this world of “put me on camera” WRs.

  17. JimBuc Says:

Eric and Patrick have been crying for weeks about the Bucs letting AB go. Word comes that he is still injured, something Dom likely new. Lets see if either changes their tune? My money is on “unlikely”

Amid rumors that Bengals receiver Antonio Bryant will start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list, a source close to Bryant tells us that Bryant expects to practice when the team opens training camp Wednesday in Georgetown, Kentucky.

Bryant was hampered by a knee injury for much of 2010, and there have been reports, rumors, and speculation that he’s still having trouble.

There also has been chatter that the Bengals are having buyer’s remorse regarding Bryant’s four-year, $28 million contract. We’re still trying to figure out what the Bengals would lose via guaranteed money by cutting him — and what’s they’d save if they decide not to throw good money after bad.

    Jimbuc,

If AB can’t play, Dom will have been proven correct.
