Faine Says Dotson Could Be An All-Time Great

June 23rd, 2010

Which Buccaneer could go down as a legend at his position?

Ronde Barber? Maybe Aqib Talib if he can continue to improve?

Joe could toss out plenty of speculation. However, Jeff Faine already has an answer. And it wreaks of bribery, corruption and media manipulation. Or maybe Faine just lost it for a moment.

In speaking about the Donald Penn situation to Rick Stroud, aka The Mad Twitter of The St. Pete Times, Faine said Demar Dotson could be one of the best left tackles to ever play in the NFL.

“I think a lot of us take it for granted. I think he’s a very, very bright star with a lot of potential and has a great attitude and a great work ethic. He wants to learn. He wants to keep improving and I think if he puts it all together, he could be one of the best to ever play the game. Now that’s a lot being said and it’s a pretty good ways away, but he has a chance.”

No doubt Faine is enamored with the sheer size of Dotson, who is 6-9, 315, and has no sign of a weight problem. But surely Faine has to know that it would take nothing short of a miracle for Dotson to emerge as a stud left tackle on any team, let alone turning into Jonathan Ogden.

The odds of Dotson even getting a shot at seeing a regular season start are slim.

One of the most intelligent Buccaneers hands down, Faine rarely wastes words and loses track of his message. Joe can only assume Faine went a little overboard in praising Dotson by request.

“The odds of Dotson even getting a shot at seeing a regular season start are slim…”

Back in October of 2007, when Petitgout when down with an injury, you could have said those same things Donald Penn.

  2. JackBlack Says:

Joe, I usually agree with you, but not this time. If you read Faine’s quote you see that he covers himself pretty well and is simply saying how high Dotson’s potential is.
We all can see that he has the size, and apparently he has the work ethic and is starting to learn the skills.

I think this is an encouraging quote from the leader of our offensive line trying to instill confidence in a young teammate.
Not a manipulative move from the front office as you suggest.

  3. Kensington Says:

Yeah, he has the size …he’s too tall. The timing of this is very suspect. It’s just flat out nuts. Dotson’s a project at a position where you don’t want a project. Guaranteed the Bucs would rather sign a real LT than play this guy if Penn holds out

  4. Dave Says:

We’re not winning more than 3 games with Dotson at LT

  5. RahDomDaBest Says:

Soon the season will be under way and we won’t need to debate about any of this… come on season!

  6. Patrick Says:

“Dotson could be an all time great”

Wow, just how many more dumb things can be said by anyone in the organization?? Of course you have Raheem saying stupid things all the time and now you have this comment by Faine that was ridiculous.

I understand Faine was trying to be optimistic, but what he said was just laughable. Effort is not everything, the guy has to actually be good at what he does. According to what I read, Michael Clayton works hard and has a good attitude at what he does and is he any good?? Dotson is an interesting project, but that is not what Freeman needs. He needs a proven, solid LT to protect him. I’m not hearing anything about who’s competing with him because he sure as hell needs it. Cause there’s a 99 % chance he won’t be the guy. He better not just give him the job.

  7. bucfanjeff Says:

He was the same one that, last year, said Josh Johnson should be the starting QB. Uh, that didn’t turn out so well. I like Faine, hell of a player, but his endorsements don’t exactly ring true so far.

  8. Snook Says:

Can we get more negative news? These positive articles are really bumming me out. I want to hear about how bad the Bucs are going to be so I can enjoy myself.

  9. Louie Says:

Come on Snook, this is negative. Can’t you detect the sarcasm?

  10. BigMacAttack Says:

It looks like Raheem has been in the weight room “pumping iron” with da boys. He has bulked up his upper body and you can see his arms are getting bigger. If he is in there working out with the guys, it is great for team building. Never ask your employee to do anything you wouldn’t do yourself. Maybe Raheem wants to make sure he doesn’t get knocked down again with a flying hip or chest bump. I just don’t understand the “taking off the underwear comment”, but good job Coach Rah.

  11. Gary Says:

Come on guys… I can understand you berating morris when he says things that are truly unintelligible, but this is showing your true colors!

Stop drinking your haterade and read the quotes, it makes perfect sense. Why does everything have to be spelled out for morons like bigmac? “Taking off underwear” means putting on pads and doing this thing for real… just like everyone on the planet knows will happen in july 31st.

    Patrick,

Forgive me, but I’m pretty sure i will take Faine’s endorsement of Dotson over your (very detailed… lol) analysis. You sit there and type all high and mighty like you know anything about professional football. Regardless of if faine was provoked, or if he is (isn’t) being political b/c he wants penn… you know nothing!

  12. Louie Says:

Looks like “The Dream” has been watching too much Lingerie Football League with that underwear comment. LOL

  13. BigMacAttack Says:

Hey Gary, thanks for letting me know I’m a moron. I would have never guessed that if not for your name calling. Thanks for enlightening me, but you may want to take a remedial reading course if you think I’m a hater. BTW, as a long time season ticket holder, I pay for the privilege to question my team. Do you? or do you just run your suck? Rah could have found a better analogy, and you should look in the mirror when you call someone out.

  14. RahDomDaBest Says:

Gary said: ““Taking off underwear” means putting on pads and doing this thing for real… just like everyone on the planet knows will happen in july 31st.”

    Huh???

    Gary are you Raheem?

  15. Capt.Tim Says:

This is an angle no one thought of. . .
What if Faine is telling the truth?!?
What if he really believes Dotson can become an elite tackle? Wow, that sure sounds like good news! Having a 6’9 , Jonathan Ogden sized LT with some skills is a good thing.

  16. Gary Says:

BigMac, I guess your right in that your not a “hater” but please stop the old line of being a season ticket holder. I’m so tired of that. So what! You spend a few $$ and now you’re an armchair GM? Gimme a break.

I grew up in Orlando and lived/breathed this team all my life. I would come down to Tampa to watch games whenever possible. Now that I am all grown up and had to move somewhere else (DC) for the right job, I can’t say anything because I’m not a season ticket holder?

Let me make one thing VERY clear to all you haters. You can cry all you want, thats your right. But dont for a second think you get some special rights over any other fan because trust me, there are hundreds (notice i didnt say thousands) of fans out that to take your seat (i hope).

I have to waste $100 bar tab each and every sunday to watch my team play… how many of you do that? If I still lived in FL, I would gladly take the season tickets of fans disgruntled with the team, whatever it was. 2k, 3k, it doesnt matter because i believe in this team.

I’m dead serious, i would take a pay cut to move back down to FL and get some nice tickets since all the “fans” are bailing on this team. Do it in a heartbeat to be back in FL, but alas I can’t. But dont give me that season ticket BS. You are well within your rights to criticize the team, they deserve that much atleast. But please dont think that just because you spent a few $$ on this team that gives you some special right to be a hater because there are poeple that would gladly get season tickets today and not see every single post on this site in a negative light.

  17. Gary Says:

    RahDom,

Yes I am Raheem because it seems like I’m the only one that understands him.

He is pretty easy to understand when you dont tear apart every single quote looking for something to bash. What could he possibly mean with the underwear quote when before and after that sentence, he is talking about putting on pads, getting violent, seeing what people are made of, etc. Ok, so he’s not teaching speech classes anytime soon, so what! We as fans already know what he is about and I will take his straight up style over Gruden’s lying anyday.

As you said, the season will tell all…I just hope your around to show yourself when we are doing well.

  18. oar Says:

Well, Gary that makes one us!

  19. jvato24 Says:

Hey Guys ,,, Where exactly did Donald Penn go to college ?? Where exactly was he drafted ??

Let me see who I should believe .. The TB Bucs center Jeff Faine POV or Joe and his little hula girl conspiracy theorists .. I think I will side with Faine

He didnt say he would be a PRO BOWLER week 1 .. but states down the road could be great given his size, Raw Athleticism and work ethic.

  20. BigMacAttack Says:

Gary, I’m not going to call you names, but it sounds like you have some issues. I heard they have some real nice call girl services in DC for the Congressmen. Since money is not an object to you, maybe a visit will help ease your pain and frustration. If you can fluently decipher the Rah-dialect of RahSpeak, you are in the minority. It doesn’t make him a bad coach, but he speaks in tongues and sometimes 3 or 4 at the same time. I’m more of a meat and potatoes type moron myself.

My original point was about Raheem’s press conference and seeing him at Fan Fest. The guy has definitely been throwing some iron around and I’m impressed. Leading by example all the way. Did anyone else notice this?

Joe’s applauds you cranking off a $100 tab during a football game. Joe’s assuming you buy for your peeps and/or assorted naughty women at the bar, or you eat like Donald Penn used to, or you go to one of those expensive joints just so you can say you paid $9.50 for a mixed drink.

  22. Patrick Says:

    Ya’ll are funny

  23. Bucnjim Says:

You know what’s really funny? In a few weeks Penn will sign; He and dominik will kiss and make up; Dotson will be back on the bench; Zuttah will gain 25 lbs. of muscle; (O.K. Maybe not) and then we’ll still be here cracking on each other. Of course what fun would it be if we all just got along.

  24. Capt.Tim Says:

    Gary, nice post.
Don’t let the haters, or “The Slow Squad”, get to you .
Sucessful people/ leaders take stands, support what they believe in, change the world in positive ways, and can except that even the greatest men aren’t perfect. Great men accept small falliures while pursuing excellence.by the sound of your post, You probably know that.
The haters demand perfection from others, even though they can’t come close themselves. They don’t support or stand up for anything, only critize any move they don’t agree with. They value no ones elses opinion.
By the way, bigmac is not a hater, usually he’s an insightful poster.
The slow squad can’t imagine supporting the Bucs unless they win the superbowl that year. And they couldn’t come up with a $100 dollar bar tab between the six of them.
Thankfully, they are the minority, even though they clog the post. But you can still have intelligent conversation with Buc Fans here. You just have to skip over the haters to do so

  25. gotbbucs Says:

    Amen, Gary!

Whether Faine was saying this to pump up Dotson or whether he truly beleives it, who cares? It’s an innocent comment from one of our best players. What’s he supposed to say, “Dotson’s really big and all, but he’ll never be a starter in this league.”? Get over it already and quit over analizing everything that every player, coach, and front office employee says.

Some of you would bitch if your ice cream was too cold.

“Joe and his little hula girl conspiracy theorist”
lmfao.! Joe, did you start a band?
Poetically, I don’t know if that’s Art, But I Like it!!
Images of Joe, ukelele in hand , backed up by Lightningbuc, Rahdomdabest, Eric, and Louie- all humming “we hate the bucs” , in those spiffy Lil grass skirts! That’s an image thats gonna be burned into my minds Eye forever- brrrr!
Gonna take alot .”pom pom Doms” ta wash that thought away !

  27. Joe Says:

    Capt.Tim:

Joe doesn’t hate the Bucs. Hardly. But he’s not a cheerleader either.

  28. Capt.Tim Says:

    Oh, just for clarity,
The “slow squad” was humming ” we hate the Bucs”
I believe Joe is a loyal Buc Fan, Joe puts to much work into this site, for it nit to be a labor of love.
Of course, the song could be” My Damn Domminck Radar let me down”!
Alot of local journalist have been singing that toon lately!

  29. Capt.Tim Says:

Wow, that was quick, you put me on point while I was writing my Clarification!!! I do know that, and respect it!
