The Embrace Of Michael Clayton

May 17th, 2010

Though Joe is like most Bucs fans, frustrated with blocking icon Michael Clayton’s inept receiving results, Joe has always maintained he’s a good guy.

Now Joe has proof, which may signal why Bucs general manager Mark Dominik has stuck his neck out for the embattled wide receiver and kept him on the roster.

Seems as though Clayton is a good locker room guy and a mentor to the young players.

Sunday morning while appearing on local sports media czar J.P. Peterson’s Tampa Bay Sports Central television show broadcast on WTOG-TV Channel 44, Peterson hosted Bucs wide receiver Sammie Stroughter who, as a rookie last year, felt welcome thanks to Clayton.

Stroughter lauded Clayton and others for making Stroughter feel part of the team, which Stroughter said went a long way to helping him feel comfortable so he could just worry about football.

“Guys like Michael Clayton, Antonio Bryant, Brian Clark, the vets, they put their arms around you.”

This may be the reason, other than dollars and cents of course, that Dominik keeps Clayton for one more season. If Clayton was able to assist Stroughter into becoming a productive pro, why not have him work the same magic on rookie wide receivers Arrelious Benn and Mike Williams?

I thought Antonio Bryant had a bad attitude!

    I guess not, eh.

    Whoooooooooops there goes another excuse.

Just like the Rays did with Pat Burrell, why don’t the Bucs just admit thier mistake, cut their losses and move on! Common sense tells you that they let the wrong receiver go. Oops, common sense! That’s a new one for team Glazer!

I happened to meet MC at a fan meet & greet last year. He was the only Buc player to show up and he had a horrible attitude. It was early in the season – just after Freeman was given the starting job. I find it hard to believe that any player that will bad-mouth the coaching staff and other team members TO A FAN would be a locker room leader.

    Eric,

Just because one rookie liked AB doesn’t make him a great teammate.

    @d-money

Yeah, why would we take the word of one of his fellow wide receivers when we can wildly speculate from “body language”.

  6. Louie Says:

I’m sure Stroughter is running gassers this morning because he slipped up by saying AB was a good teammate.

Dominik: “Sammy, how many times do we have to tell you, AB is a cancer and doesn’t run good routes. Keep running until you remember that.”

So Clanghands is a nice guy. Clanghands is also a lousy receiver. If Charles Manson could get out on parole and be a playmaker for the Bucs, I think I would rather have Manson on the team.

    @ drdneast:

I don’t think Manson can block as well as Clayton though! But, if Manson can catch a football as well as he caught two different forms of VD, then you may very well have a point….

Those Menendez brothers are pretty fast.
