“Sleeper” Of The Year: Mike Williams

May 2nd, 2010

Bucs fans still giddy over Bucs general manager/new rock star Mark Dominik landing two stud receivers in the draft will be comforted by the following:

It seems not just Bucs fans nor Bucs officials are excited about the chances that either or both rookie draft picks Arrelious Benn or Mike Williams will shine. A former NFL scout who has turned to the dark side and now is a nasty member of the fourth estate is lauding the Bucs receivers, specifically Williams.

Daniel Jeremiah, a former scout for the Ravens and Browns who now does some work for BSPN and has a tremendous Web site, MovingTheSticks.com, and is also a Twittering madman, Twittered this morning that he believes Williams will explode onto the NFL scene this fall.

Sleeper rookie of the year candidate— Tampa WR Mike Williams… bigtime talent and thin depth chart.

The fact Jeremiah is saying this, not a Bucs official, warms Joe’s heart. Joe trusts Jeremiah is on target. If so, this fall could be very interesting for the Bucs.

there seems to be consensus re this kids talent, i am on the side of the consensus and really like the pick (even if he turns out to be a head case).

however, jeremiah’s statement re sleeper ROY has more to do with bucs lack of vet talent than anything else b/c it is obvious that both williams and benn will be thrown into the fire soon b/c the team has nobody to compete with them

  2. Eric Says:

I am all aflitter about that twitter.

  3. JimBuc Says:

Thomas, I am absolutely shocked that you have that take on the situation. 🙂

  4. Louie Says:

This is good news. The Bucs are going to need a lot of things like this to break their way to have a successful season.

  5. Gary Says:

Whats up with all the praise coming out of rookie camp about williams, and nothing about benn? Joe, have you head anything about Benn, is he not performing up to expectations? Everyone seems to going out of thier way to praise williams, but then say nothing about Benn.

  6. JimBuc Says:

Joe will probably know more, but the reports I have seen praise Benn as well but note that he runs the underneath stuff while Williams is the big play guy. Both have done well, albeit againt rookie talent.

One of the best things I have read is that the two of them get on well and talk about trying to support each other to be the tandem for the next ten years.

  7. Eric Says:

The bucs are very clearly the champions of the:

    Draft
    OTA’s
    Mini Camps
    Scout team
    training camp

    Regular season? whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooops

  8. Gary Says:

Awesome JimBuc. Them 2 getting along and working together is important for our success. Eric, please give all your garbage a rest, its really annoying.

  9. Eric Says:

Are they going to be working together in the NFL or Arby’s?

  10. Kirk Says:

This is not an attempt to be negative, but some of the folks who write here a lot seem to be familiar and their negative bullshit (Eric)has drifter over from the other Buccaneer site, you know the one that used to have a colorful magazine? I guess some may call it sarcasm, but it does get old. It amazes me that some have as much time as they do to consistently post here.
Just goes to show you, that other site that used to have a colorful magazine has fallen off so bad, the rats are jumping ship and bringing their shit here.

  11. nick Says:

    Ive got a boner

  12. nick Says:

btw eric u suck rat balls

  13. Radio Mushmouth Says:

Is eric being negative , or are the rest of you just brain-dead kool-aid drinkers who pre-maturely ejaculate over every single report that has something even remotely positive to say about our bucs???

    I vote for the latter…

  14. Kirk Says:

Brain dead, kool-aid drinkers who prematurely ejaculate? Wow that’s great stuff. I know mom would be proud. All that education (or lack of it) and that’s the best you got? I am not jacking off about this team or any other team for that matter. I just like the Bucs and don’t find their losing or winning a life or death matter. I know a lot of posters here know much more about football than I ever will, but I refuse to always see things in a negative manner. You my friend, are very brave and come across as more than you mostly likely are. Some people grow big balls behind a keyboard. Their little world is so out of control, they have to find ways to put others down in order to feel better about themselves. Mr. Mushmouth, keep it up, your comedy is entertaining.

  15. mlloye Says:

I would have to agree with Kirk, most of you have probably read more about football than you have played, (Gamers) who got picked on in high school. If you guys were real fans you would “Support” your team. I understood all the garbage during FA’s when it appeered as though they werent going to do shit but the draft went far better than could be expected so give it a rest, support our team, or Fu@$ off!

  16. JimBuc Says:

If you are a fan but you cannot do anything but post a negative thought when good news comes out, you are just defending your position. Sad, but true.

  17. Eric Says:

Actually, in my profession “sucking rat balls” is a higher complimentary level than I am used to!

It appears to me that the Glazer happy pills not only cause euphoria prior to any measurable results, but also have a numbing effect on the humor senses.

As to me appearing on other bucs sites, that is untrue as I have never posted elswhere, and Mr. joe has the only Bucs site in my mind. So, you guys are fortunate to get my original commentary!

  18. JimBuc Says:

    Eric you are too funny.

  19. Kirk Says:

Eric…you are the best, even if your claim to be journalism major from Auburn ia true. This site has truly taken off. I remember when it first started and hardly anyone commented on Joe”s articles. I don’t always agree with the rough treatment, but you have a right to your opinion. I don’t have any expectations of this team. I just enjoy watching them play.

  20. Eric Says:

    @kirk

I think thats the other EricS, my profession is far more nefarious- criminal lawyer.

I enjoy watching the team also, and still have the grooves on my rear end from those hard ass seats at the big sombrero.

I just feel the Glazer boys are up to no good, which is the source of my negativity, and i deeply dislike deception. Thats all.

  21. tommy Says:

kirk and eric are life partners

  22. Mr. Lucky Says:

@Kirk wrote, “I don’t have any expectations of this team.”

But you call yourself a fan! How can you say that?

According to some here unless you expect the Bucs to contend for the SuperBowl each and every season you aren’t a TRUE fan!

[just to be sure – sarcasism intended]

  23. Mr. Lucky Says:

@Eric wrote, “I just feel the Glazer boys are up to no good, which is the source of my negativity, and i deeply dislike deception. ”

But I thought you were a lawyer? Don’t you guys take like an oath to be deceptive?

Or maybe thats the politicans? But aren’t politicians lawyers too?

  24. Mr. Lucky Says:

Eric wrote, “It appears to me that the Glazer happy pills not only cause euphoria prior to any measurable results, but also have a numbing effect on the humor senses.”

Let’s be real – after last season’s fiasco its easy to be jaded and cynical. I’m not a Rah-Rah fan but Dominik has earned my respect. At this point why NOT be optimistic?

It sucks that there is still 3 months until training camp & 4 months until we find out if the Bucs are on the right road. I’ll take any happy pills I can get my hands on!

    JimBuc:

Joe will probably know more, but the reports I have seen praise Benn as well but note that he runs the underneath stuff while Williams is the big play guy. Both have done well, albeit againt rookie talent.

It seems Benn is more of a YAC guy and Williams is more of a blazer who stretched the field and can go up and get the ball.
