Freeman For Roethlisberger?

April 16th, 2010

The buzz of the day around the NFL is that sleazebag Ben Roethlisberger might be traded before the draft. And Joe is too curious what Bucs fans might think of Tampa Bay trading Josh Freeman to the Steelers for the 28-year-old, two-time Super Bowl winner.

Mike Florio, creator, curator and overall guru at ProFootballTalk.com, reports the Steelers might trade Bathroom Ben for as little as a first-round pick. Of course, the Steelers would then need a quarterback.

So Joe can’t help but wonder whether Mark Dominik would entertain offering Freeman straight up for Roethlisberger. Surely, it would represent an upgrade at the position for the Bucs. And considering Roethlisberger has six years left on his contract, Team Glazer couldn’t say Dominik was only thinking short term.

Joe would have to think the Steelers would give the offer serious consideration, as Freeman is first-round caliber, works hard and seems to prefer traditional encounters with women. Plus, they’d get him out of their conference to a team with low-grade receivers.

Joe, I love your column, but this is the stupidest thing I’ve seen proposed by you. Period. There isn’t even a debate to be had.

    2. bucfanjeff Says:

Joe, your on crack. I usually like your posts, but this one is garbage – sorry.
      …and laughable I might add.

    3. admin Says:

      Joe here,

Fellas, I’m just asking a question, not proposing a deal.

    4. Matt Says:

      Idiotic.

    5. acharlot5 Says:

i wouldnt trade freeman after one year.. this kid has had his ups and downs last year but you can tell hes going to be special. Hes 22 and Ben is 28..and he didnt win those super bowls by himself he had a great D..no deal

    6. Mark Says:

Crap Joe – very stupid question – lazy effort to fill the blog space

    7. jake Says:

If they did this, not only would I be on their butts for being cheap but for being flat out moronic as well!

    8. Ajay Says:

Very interesting Joe and seems so possible but I doubt it will be considered.

I voted ‘No’, I would not give up Freeman for “bathroom Ben”. lmfao

    9. Eric E. Says:

Joe C’mon Son!!! This will be officially known as crazy friday.

    10. BigMacAttack Says:

The Steelers can keep Mr Hillbillie Boy Rapist. Why this clown isn’t sitting in a Prison is behind me. One girl cries Rape in Vegas, maybe it wasn’t, so Ben gets the benefit of the doubt, but not the second time. He most likely raped them both. He gets drunk, horny, out of control, and Junior takes over his thought process. Only a dirtbag of the highest order preys on women and children. Check his computer at home. It probably has child pornography too. I’d be willing to bet. Scum runs deep in that bag. And the body guard that blocked the Women’s restroom door is just as guilty and should be in jail too.

    11. Tommy Boy Says:

No F’n Way! Bathroom Ben can keep his ass an meat hammer in Pittsburgh. This guy is a piece of trash and doesn’t deserve the life he has been granted to live. Go Freeman!

    12. DH Says:

Typical Blog Fodder…Come On Joe, you’re better than that….

    13. safety Says:

      Hey Joe!
I like the question, and I am heartened by the fact that most everyone says no. Bathroom Ben is such a douche. Jeez.

On a side note, I missed the interview between the Big Dog and Dom, and it only plays for 2 or 3 seconds in your sidebar player. Can you fix that?

      Thanks man.

    14. Evel Says:

Joe, normally I love this site… but this is sensationalistic garbage.

You guys were at the bar REALLY late last night. That guy at the end of the bar is NOT a member of the organization.

I think the draft has to start already. I know there’s no news, but come on.

    15. T in Orlando Says:

I am not saying Freeman is currently the best QB in the NFL right now, but given the state of the team, and the fact we’re at least 2 years from even being a playoff team, I don’t know if I’d trade Freeman for any NFL QB. Not Manning, Brady, Brees, Rivers, Cutler or Rothlesberger. Would we win more games with one of them at the helm? Absolutely. But does anyone honestly believe that any of those QBs make this Bucs team a playoff team next year? Maybe I would trade for Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco, because they’re only a year older than Freeman, and are still developing themselves.

Freeman’s potential is as high as anyone that has come in the league in the past 10 years, and seems to have the desire and work ethic to tap into every last bit of the potential. Watching his development is probably the most exciting thing we have to look forward too over the next 2 years.

If we were a play-off caliber team and Freeman as he is today was the best QB on our roster (a la the Vikings two years ago before aquiring the Favre), then I’d say let’s bring in a QB that’s won the big game. But this team is not in that position, so I see no reason to even contemplate moving Freeman.

    16. Kenny Says:

What a freaking angry crew piling on Joe for sharing a thought. I voted “tough call.” If you watch the Steelers regularly, you realize what a great player this guy is.

    17. bucfanjeff Says:

Joe, the people have spoken and I think it’s pretty much official – hit the delete button on this one.

    18. Joe Says:

      safety:

The issue with the Dominik interview is coming from the source server, not Joe’s. The appropriate parties have been alerted.

    19. BigMacAttack Says:

Ben is a great player. He should be playing for The Pennsylvania Penitentiary.

    20. SLY Says:

HELL NO! That would be a STUPID move. No way is Dominik going to draft “his quarterback” and then trade him.

    21. Chargedcbh Says:

Very interesting response, considering the majority of you agreed with Joe this time last year. “Bust-in-waiting” Think for yourselfs!

    22. sgw94 Says:

LOL I gotta say its getting pretty comical the contrast between how some guys are portrayed here versus others. Big Ben was just horny huh? He’s not a piece of trash? He’s not a rapist? Have you seen the fucking police reports?

I wonder what makes him just horny rather than a “scumbag”…..

And to think without irony the question is whether we would trade our first round pick quarterback from last year for a guy was just “horny”.

Im on the floor over here, seriously.

    23. Johnny D. Says:

This team is being built for the 2012 season and beyond, so I think the Bucs are better off with Freeman.

    24. mlloye Says:

The Raiders will go after Horney Ben. I would black out the Bucs games if they did this. Freeman is our QB, and given time and some weapons, I believe he will be far better than Horney Ben!! Ben would not be any better than Freeman with the crap receivers we have (excluding Strouter and K2).

    25. Eric Says:

I am a scumbag lowlife criminal defense attorney, and even I can’t manufacture a defense for Roethlisberger.

IMO he should be in jail without bond and his “entourage” arrested for false imprisonment for draging that young girl into the restroom.

    26. Joe Says:

I am a scumbag lowlife criminal defense attorney, and even I can’t manufacture a defense for Roethlisberger.

      ROTFLMAO!!!

      Eric:

Joe might have to have your business contact information. If Joe would ever run into Rachel Watson in some steamy, hip south Tampa nightspot, Joe just might find himself in a “Big Ben”-type of predicament.

    27. safety Says:

      Thanks dude.

    28. Eric Says:

      Joe,

      I got your back man.

However, I am not sure they have invented drinks strong enough for that to actually happen. Plus, it would be difficult for her to report the “crime” in a state of hysterical laughter!

    29. Joe Says:

      🙂

    30. BigMacAttack Says:

I was kinda hoping that maybe the Girl’s father might hand out some 45 street justice to Ol Benny Boy. I would love to see the same exact thing happen to him, against his will, in prison, every day, for say the next 15 years. That would be an equal swap. If he did that to my daughter, there would not be a need for a prosecutor or investigation. It would be bang bang and call 1-800-ASK-ERIC.

Actually, I’d probably empty the clip…twice. Then go find the body guard.

    31. gt40bear Says:

There was no HELL NO button.

    32. Becks Says:

First time commenting. Was surprised by the poll results. Thought there’s be more in favor of Ben. I’m prepared to hold my nose and put him in a Bucs uniform. New to this site. Lotta passion over here. Good stuff.

    33. Joe Says:

Thanks for dropping in Becks. Hope you become a regular.

Tell your Bucs friends about Joe!

    34. Travis Says:

@sgw94 What are you talking about? Did you read the post before yours? They called him more names then just horny Ben. Just asking you friends with Marshall? Or you think it is a race thing?

    35. admin Says:

      Joe here,

Travis – after further review, Joe is now going to refer to Roethlisberger as a sleazebag or horny sleazebag. It’s more accurate and appropriate given the new reports. Joe strives to get it right.

    36. Hawaiian Buc Says:

      @Eric

What happened to “the charges were dropped, which means they were never established as true in court. I think considering them against his character is unfair. Im really troubled by how people convert allegations into reality.”?

Just giving you a hard time – I couldn’t agree with you more that they should all have been arrested. I would be officially off the Dominik bandwagon if he were to even consider this deal.

    37. Sander Says:

Yes, things look damning for Roethlisberger, especially because this isn’t the first time. At the same time, innocent till proven guilty is still
And for all we know this was a case of a really drunk girl who didn’t really know what she was doing, and regretted it afterwards. I’m not saying that was the case, but that is definitely an option.

What I found most interesting about the police reports is that he was apparently supplying alcohol to a 20-year-old. How is that not a clear crime?

In any case, am I really the only one who, from a football standpoint, would want a QB of Roethlisberger’s abilities over Freeman at this point? I love what Freeman’s doing and have high hopes for him, but he has a very long way to go yet to get to Big Ben’s level of play and could very well never reach that. And a straight-up trade would look like a very profitable thing right now for the Bucs, from a football standpoint.

It’s never ever going to happen, though, because Dominik and Raheem are married to Freeman. It’s just not an option so this is merely idle, baseless talk.

    38. Joe Says:

      Sander:

In any case, am I really the only one who, from a football standpoint, would want a QB of Roethlisberger’s abilities over Freeman at this point?

Always remember and never forget: The NFL is a business first; sport second.

If molester Roethlisberger came here, how are the Glazers going to sell any tickets to women? They have a hard enough time selling any tickets as it is.

Also factor in not only do you not know when he will be able to play, but if he gets handsy with one more chick, or flashes another chick, or accidently gets caught in the same bathroom as another chick, he may be out of football (and in prison).

Roethlisberger isn’t toxic right now, he’s uranium.

    39. Eric Says:

      @Hawaiian Buc

Nice job of calling me out.

But rape is a way more serious than the chicken shit stuff the other guys were charged with.

Plus, I see some serious corroboration for this situation, from her friends, and she reported it right away. And there are injuries.

Around these parts, i could easily see a sentence in the 7-10 year range, if a plea, and 15 for a conviction after trial.

Hard to believe the DA didn’t have the balls to go for it.

Its a bit weak, but thats all the defense I got to my own inconsistency.

    40. Sander Says:

@Joe: Absolutely, you’re right that he carries some significant off-the-field risks. Another reason why this will never happen. From a quality-of-play standpoint, though, Roethlisberger is much better than Freeman at this point. If the questions about his off-the-field behaviour can be resolved, It’d be hard not to support a trade like this.

@Eric: innocent until proven guilty, it’s as simple as that. The DA apparently had just the word of the woman vs Ben’s word – you can’t build a case on two conflicting statements.
If someone does get convicted because a woman calls him a rapist without any other evidence, that’d be a gross perversion of the justice system.

    41. Eric Says:

      @Sander

“you can’t build a case on two conflicting statements”.

I have a lot of clients in prison that would disagree with that statement! Some awaiting execution!

    42. Sander Says:

      @Eric:
Well, in my opinion, that shouldn’t happen unless one of the two statements is severely in question. I don’t see how you could prove a case beyond reasonable doubt with only two conflicting testimonies.

I have to add that I’m not from the USA, so my perspective may be different from yours and I don’t know much about the American legal system. Obviously you’d know better if the DA could or couldn’t build a case based on these testimonies.

    43. Joe Says:

      Sander:

Roethlisberger is much better than Freeman at this point.

Oh, that’s not even up for debate. Brady and Brees are the only quarterbacks I’d rather have (seen Manning gag too many times in the playoffs, one of which came vs. Roethlisberger, sorry). Sadly, you can’t seperate Roethlisberger from his (near) rapes any longer. One of the few teams that can absorb scum like that is Pittsburgh because I believe they are sold out through 2089, and still the outrage is so bitter in Pittsburgh he may very well get cut.

It’s one thing to f’ with dogs (Vick). It’s quite another to get a 20-year old broad hammered, then trap her in the bathroom while you rape her (allegedly) and have your muscle stand guard outside so she can’t be rescued or escape.

That’s not even counting flashing broads. Dude is sick and not in a good way. He needs some serious therapy.

    44. Tye Says:

If he didn’t have such serious off-the-field issues I would trade Freeman and Leftwich both for Big Ben…….

I most definately would have traded them both for McNabb and maybe even through in Josh Johnson just to start over building the QB roster from a new slate….. Oh yeah, Rudy….. Well he would be safe until I got to see how he plays in actual game speed!!! That’s my views!

    45. Joe Says:

If he didn’t have such serious off-the-field issues I would trade Freeman and Leftwich both for Big Ben…….

IF Roethlisberger hadn’t molested and flashed chicks, he’d be untouchable in a trade. A year ago there were people seriously discussing him as a Hall of Fame quarterback.

    46. mlloye Says:

Damit, we must be running out of stuff to talk about concerning the Bucs because this shit with Chester the chicken molester “Horney Ben” has gotton more attention than any of the other post.

    47. sealbuc Says:

dude step away from the crack pipe. this is an idea that should have not even crossed your mind if you are a true fan
