With The Third Pick… Gerald McCoy

March 3rd, 2010

NFL analyst Pat Kirwan, he of Sirius NFL Radio, of NFL.com, of CBSSports.com, has returned from the NFL combine in Indianapolis.

Armed with loads of information, he has posted his mock draft on NFL.com. He also believes the Bucs will actually get the best man for their defense. That would be Oklahoma defensive tackle Gerald McCoy.

The Bucs have returned to the Monte Kiffin style 4-3 defense, and McCoy can do many of the things Warren Sapp did back in the glory days of Tampa’s defense.

Kirwan believes the Bucs will be able to get McCoy because the Rams will pick quarterback Sam Bradford and the Lions will grab manbeast Ndamukong Suh.

Also in the link above, Brian Billick, Jamie Dukes and Steve Mariucci of the NFL Network break down who they think is better between McCoy and Suh.

I would be happy with either McCoy or Suh!!! As long as one of them falls to us, I like Berry but only if we trade down a few spots

  2. Erick Says:

Why is it okay to draft Berry at the 6th or 7th spot but not 3rd? Its not that easy to just trade down. You need a team who is willing to trade up. I agree that if a DT is there take them, but if the Bucs can’t trade down then why not take Berry? I’m not saying they should or shouldn’t take him, but to say don’t draft him because the norm is to not draft a safety that high is ridiculous.

    Erick,

    Well said.

If we trade down I’d like to see Spiller in pewter & red. But if we stay at 3 go with Suh, McCoy, or Berry.

  4. Chris Says:

I would be okay if whoever the bucs draft is a great player for us for a long time.

  5. Radio Mushmouth Says:

This is exactly how I see it going down .

Although I heard today that the Rams put out a smokescreen , saying if the draft were today they would select McCoy.

Total BS and an obvious smoke-screen.

  6. JDouble Says:

I say we give the Rams our first round pick, and next year’s first round pick for thier 1st round pick and 3rd round pick this year.

We get Suh, and a 2nd low third round pick.

With Suh and four other picks from the first 70, we’d be set to have our best draft since we got Sapp and Brooks. Any other year I’d say it’s stupid to mortgage the future draft, but I think it’s a smart move now. This draft has a ridiculous amount of talent. We can have Suh and add more picks too.

  7. Greg Says:

Why is everyone so high on Berry, he’s not even listed as the #1 Safety at the combine? Granted the combine doesn’t mean shit, but my thinking is if this guy can’t convince those guys he’s the #1 safety, he definitely doesn’t deserve to be drafted #3–just my 2 cents.

I cant see the Rmas passing on SUH. So that means Eric Berrry who is the truth. He can take over for Sabbi who missed alot of tackles and blew alot of covarge. Another plus he can play nickel or even play corner like he did when he was a fresmen. and last but not least he played for Monte Kiffin
