Vacation Man Thinks Scott Long’s On Bucs’ Radar

March 4th, 2010

The Bucs need a wide receiver worse than Joe needs a cold Caybrew on a steamy hot Florida Saturday afternoon.

Vacation Man, of, thinks he has found that wide receiver.

It’s Louisville wide receiver Scott Long.

Vacation Man believes the way Long wowed NFL scouts at the NFL combine, Long has moved up from a late-round pick to perhaps a third round pick.

He believes the Bucs will come knocking.

Long ran a 4.46 40-yard dash. Not bad, but it was seventh best among receivers and it’s not going to qualify him as a “burner.’’ But you need to look beyond the 40 time to get a better picture of how Long helped himself at the combine. His 11.0 seconds time in the 60-yard shuttle was first among receivers, and he also had the best vertical jump at 41.5 inches. Long also was the strongest of the receivers, recording 20 reps on the bench press.

Long’s best event was the three-cone drill. He did that in 6.45 seconds, the best time of any player (at any position) at the combine.

Long wasn’t much for touchdowns, only had four in his last three seasons. But he did average double-digit yards per catch in each of those three seasons.

Is vacation man a guy who’s first name begins with a P and last name begins with a Y? Sorry if this has been brought up before but im a n00b to the site…… heard Lee/Joe this morning on WDAE

I don’t know how I feel about Long. On the one hand, he has good measurables, great size-speed combination. On the other, he didn’t exactly light it up in Louisville. How good are his hands? How smoothly does he run routes? Can he separate from man coverage? Can he find the soft spot in zone coverage? If he can, and he’s this good of an athlete, why haven’t we heard of him before?

Not sure about this guy either. I don’t care that he is good at running around some cones. I care about what he does on the field. And his numbers really aren’t that great. He basically did very little his first 3 years in college and then had a decent senior year. That worries me a bit.

There are plenty of good WR’s in this draft. The question is, who will come in and be an instant contributor? It’s not looking good for the Bucs passing game (and Freeman) next season.

  5. Gary Says:

My sleeper is WR David Reed from Utah.

Can always turn a playmaker into a better athelete, but you can’t coach a great athelete into a playmaker.

I never heard of this bum in my life.

We can’t afford to take a flyer on a combine freak , and it up with another Darius Heyward-Bey.

    Just get me Golden Tate.

Long’s college carrer is hard to judge off of. First off he was recruited by patrino who left after his 1st year at UofL, He had a not so hot head coach after that, coupled with a not so hot QB and O line, and an overall not so hot team.

That makes it difficult for a WO like himself to make it to the spotlight.

There is one thing that whoever drafts Scott will get and thats heart and determination.
