Dilfer, Palmer, Coaches Love Antonio Bryant

March 15th, 2010

Joe hates to throw salt in the wounds of the many Bucs fans mourning the free-agency loss of Antonio Bryant, the Bucs’ best receiver in 2009. But Joe will do it anyway.

(Actually, Bryant wasn’t lost in free agency, the Bucs had no interest in a guy like him.)

Bryant chatted with the Cincinnati media last week and Bengals beat writer Joe Reedy talked to others about Bryant for a report in the Cincinnati Enquirer.

The one thing that struck offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski in his meeting with Bryant on Tuesday was his recall ability on schemes and routes even after talking for a few minutes with receivers coach Mike Sheppard.

But Bratkowski also lauded Bryant’s ability to make the tough receptions.

“He plays very big and makes a lot of the tough catches in crowds,” Bratkowski said. “He is great in transition from going to full speed and stopping abruptly. He makes some amazing one-hand catches.”

Another person who is overjoyed at getting Bryant is Palmer, who said from California that he has the video department already getting footage of Bryant from Tampa Bay. Palmer said that one of the first text messages he received after the signing was announced was from Trent Dilfer, who played with Bryant in Cleveland and San Francisco. Dilfer told Palmer that he was excited about the signing.

“From what I’ve heard de’s one of those guys who can move around and play inside and outside,” Palmer said. “Hopefully he can give us what we’re missing and I can’t wait to start working with him.”

Again, Joe apologizes about throwing salt in the wound. Joe would much prefer to write about the Bucs’ No. 1 receiver, except the Bucs don’t have one.

However, Joe already talked all things Reggie Brown with Eagles beat writer Les Bowen on the JoeBucsFan.com Radio Network.

Joe now wonders why the Bucs have yet to schedule a meet-the-media conference for Brown? After all, he is the Bucs’ big offseason acquisition.

Oh Joe…today it was suggested on the radio that the “Bucs are taking the 2010 season off”. I am starting to think that maybe the fans should do so as well!! Go AB…be glad your through with the Glazer train wreck.

  2. TJ Tillman Says:

AB called out Josh and the cdoaching staff last year but the coaching staff should overcome evil with good. By them saying Ab caused INT’s truthfully me I did not see that but I can be wrong. I did see him make a lot of specatular catches in the 13 games he played .

  3. Eric Says:

Don’t these fools know that all he does is cause interceptions?

  4. Radio Mushmouth Says:

    I love AB also.

I love a guy who will pout and cry for an entire season because he only was being paid 9 million dollars….

    That’s what I call character !

  5. wade Says:

I enjoyed watching AB and believe letting him go was a pretty obvious mistake- the nfl is a business and AB brings excitment ($$$) first and foremost, second of all he performs better than any receiver we have had in a while. One question I have had recently is: couldnt some of the route issues been correctly with Freeman and AB having an entire offseason together. COME ON NOW- he makes ridiculous catches!!!!

-Joe have you read the article in business week on MAN U’s sky high debt?

  6. Tommy Boy Says:

Dammit Joe! Just when I accepted the fact that we weren’t going to make any moves, here you come and rip the scab off the wound!

Carson Palmer is excited to work with him blah blah blah. F*CK Palmer and his wretchid excitement! Unless he is available when I draft my QB in this season’s fantasy football… 🙂

  7. bucfanjeff Says:

I’ve already let this issue go, but if you’re going to bring it up…I’ve said it a thousand times and I’ll say it again, not re-signing AB was a mistake. Period.

  8. jvato24 Says:

OH WELL !!! Because he dominated so well for the Bucs last year .. Everyone knows so much when they dont know Sh*t … How do you know if his knee problem isnt something that could be a long term issue .. Or things he said to Freeman that none of you know about that made him uncomfortable working with him

Mistakes the Bucs made was releasing John Lynch, Warren Sapp and Joe Jurevicius

Happy Trails to Antonio Byrant … Maybe some of you can make a BRINGBACKAB.Com site to savor his memory

  9. Eric Says:

Starting top two wideouts for NFC South teams:

    NO Colston/Henderson
    Falcons White/Jenkins
    Panthers: Smith/muhammad

    Bucs: Blocking icon/Reggie Brown

Yeah, thats gonna work out GREAT.

  10. Lakeland Bob Says:

Trent Dilfer is the same idiot who said the bucs should leave Freeman on the bench and not throw him to the wolves.Trent sucked when he played for the bucs and he sucks as an analyst.Enough about Bryant Joe,let it go.

  11. Tommy Boy Says:

    jvato24,

You’re right, we don’t know everything that happened on and off the field in regards to Bryant. But what we do know is this:

1.) Compared to our other WRs AB did dominate.
    2.) Clayton sucks.
3.) Reggie Brown is arguably a bust.
4.) Stovall has never developed into what we hoped.
5.) Stroughter has shown potential, but will likely never be that legit #2 WR, let alone a #1.
    6.) Mark Bradley, who?
7.) Did I say Clayton sucks alreaady?

So we do have the right to be upset to see our best WR leave especially with what we have left. Don’t patronize the people who are upset with AB being let go. It’s still a relatively fresh wound unlike the Sapp, Lynch, Jurevicius moves of years past. Maybe you can create a website to savor their memory…

Trent Bleeping Dilfer what a worthless windbag he emphatically sucked as a player and now everyone has him as some Guru. He has had a bone to pick with Tampa 4 ever. Crying over road kill don’t produce superbowl rings. A one arm crab can still pull you back in the barrell. better to cut ties and move onward and upward 10 draft picks 5 of the 1st 100 picks in the draft. future future future

  13. Eric Says:

Geez all Dilfer did was send the guy a text message.

Sounds like another player we know that hangs out around here…one with the initials S. W.

  15. maddog55 Says:

Does anyone know how much the Bucs would have to pay each year and for how may years to keep Bryant?

  16. bippy28 Says:

Hey radio mushmouth what is your point. jocksniffing won’t lead to future championships Bryant sandbagged the Buc’s out top 5 recievers money last year. He played like he was protesting and didn’t run the routes called Domenik made that clear in his behind the flag interview 3/12/10. The guy didn’t want to be here. 30 year old wideouts with a with questionable work habbits don’t last long. This is a team game everyone must contribute to win Bryant felt he didn’t want to put it all on the line for 16 weeks

  17. Eric Says:

“Put it all on the line” like Mr. Clayton does?

  18. tampa2 Says:

Well, Joe, you opened that wound up! lol AB was our best Wide Receiver by far. It does seem that some stupid fans believe th egarbage that Radio & Dominik “smeared him” with after he left. Looks to me like our “Top” receiver this year will be the opposing cornerback. Which one? The one covering Clayton!
