Bucs Sniffing Brandon Marshall Trade?

March 16th, 2010

Now Joe has a hard time giving credibility to a wild, unsourced rumor flung out there by little known DraftHeadquarters.com.

But NFL Draft guru Justin Pawlowski, of WDAE-AM, did sniff it out with a call to the site’s reporter and thinks there may be at least a tiny shred of credibility to it. But Pawlowski surely isn’t betting on it and thinks it’s just a rumor, too.

Oh, the rumor? The Bucs are looking at a possible swap of first-round picks with Denver (No. 3 for No. 11), with Denver throwing in headache wide receiver stud Brandon Marshall and maybe more.

Maybe. But Joe can’t imagine the Bucs want to pay Marshall the long term deal he’s obviously seeking.

Bucs would be crazy to give up the 3rd overall pick unless it occurs just after the second DT is taken by Detroit. Then they can trade down, get their safety from Tenn. Until that moment, the Bucs woul dbe fools to drop out of the DT running.

  2. Eric Says:

Id do the trade and turn around and draft Spiller at 11, if available. Lets surround this kid with some playmakers. Caddy, God bless his courage, cant be counted on for much longer and he isnt a threat for the big play.

Marshall, Winslow, Spiller, Freeman, actually starts looking like an NFL offense.

Then go heavy defense starting in round two.

  3. Finerdetailz Says:

Do it .. Do it.. It’s better than trusting Dominik with this years draft. We get a proven player. Who cares if he has some baggage. He may be a total different player here. And If this years draft is as deep as everyone says, get denvers number 2 as well so now you have an extra pick and you are still picking in the first round. The Bucs could them b package some draft choices and move back up.

  4. zech Says:

I would do the trade and then draft rolando mcclain because the bucs don’t have a leader at linebacker!

  5. Finerdetailz Says:

I like how u think zech and Eric. who knows Dominiks talent seems to be getting high draft choices in his deal. Try and get a 2 and 3 from Denver. They really want to move Marshal and give Denver our number 2 for next year.

  6. airick38 Says:

As much as I would love to have one of the DTs, there is no guarantee that either will be there. So if this rumor is actually a possibility then I would take it. Not getting my hopes up though because I doubt the Glazers will want to give Marshall a long term deal.

  7. Finerdetailz Says:

We then have 3 number twos and an extra 3. Do it do it.
At least it will appear Dominik is actually working. Instead of sitting at home Slappin da bass..

  8. TJ Tillman Says:

we would get marshall the 11th pick a 3rd rounder ah sounds grreat might be too good to be true

  9. Finerdetailz Says:

Someone call Ari and tell him the first PR move the new guy should make is to get this deal done and sign Marshall to to a long term deal. That gets the fans excited and shows these rumors of not spending money to be not true.

  10. Bucsfan47 Says:

This sounds like not a bad deal. What if they draft golden tate with their first 2nd round pick (after selecting berry in rd 1) and then get a DT later in the second round. Running back in the 3rd and start addressing defense with the other 6 picks.

They will only start drafting running backs if they can get a trade for ward. Having 3 running backs on the rosters and the payroll won’t sit well if they cut any of them with guarenteed money on the table.

  11. Finerdetailz Says:

Hurry and do the deal before jdub, funkymonkey, and the others chime in with how they wouldn’t do it. It makes too much sense to do so I’m not getting my hopes up..

  12. Jake Says:

If this ownership wants to regain any credibility and support with its fanbase, they need to make this deal happen without having to give up the farm in the process.

  13. bucfanjeff Says:

Hmmm…if you knew you could get spiller…

  14. Lakeland Bob Says:

Wow-if this is true,I would jump on it.Marshell caught over a 100 passes with Kyle Ortin. This guys a proven star.Denvers first and third still leaves us with 5 picks in the top 100.We need a hell of a lot more help than a than getting Suh or Mccoy.

The LAST thing a PR guy wants to do is make work for himself (Marshall).

Whoever is hired to replace Jeff Kamis will have enough on his plate trying to quash all the English kickball/cheap rumors that are out there. He/she doesn’t need the annual offseason headaches and late-night-get-woken-up-by-knucklehead-player-mishap Marshall will bring, if not more.

  16. Aldo Says:

sounds good for me, we get a proven WR and give the long term deal he wants (i guess if we do it for K2 why not with marshall) and with the 11 pick take Brian Price, look, that guy is underrated bcuz suh and mccoy but he is tremendous player, and with the second round we can get jordan shipley (if freeman wants it….give him the player) like a 2 WR and get a DB, maybe Nate Allen or robinson from FSU.

and why not, take a 3rd round from the broncos!!!!

  17. d-money Says:

I wouldn’t mind seeing this but not at the expense of losing Suh, Mccoy or even Berry.

I know we need a reciever but If they pass on those three guys, we will be regretting it for years to come.

  18. Aldo Says:

    @ d-money

we are not sure about that three guys would be studs in the league, look at glenn dorsey, all of us thought that guy would be a stud, and look now what he is, or look at gaines adams, the draft is luck, no always that player we think will be a stud is really that.

i insist, take tha trade, select brian price and we upgrade two needs in great way

  19. Finerdetailz Says:

So Joe. You are totally against this move? I know Duemig hates the thought of it but I figured you would be in board if this happened. What gives? At least the Bucs should explore it and if possible bring Marshall in for a sit down. A change if scenery might make the difference. If they get a bad vibe then don’t do it but at least check into it.

  20. tnew Says:

That would have to be a rumor, otherwise the Bucs are crazy not to pay a 25 top 3 maybe top 2 receiver. We wouldn’t have to pay top 3 draft money for an unproven commodity. At number 11, there would be many very good options. If we could also pick up an additional pick, well that’s just gravy. Lock the guy up for 5 years make him happy and let Winslow have a running buddy….If Spiller is available at 11 all of the sudden this offense is young and scary, that would sell some tickets.

  21. bucfanjeff Says:

Swap 1st rounders, we get their 2nd rounder, give them our 3rd rounder next year and Clayton.

  22. Joe Says:

    Finerdetailz:

Two things jump out at Joe that turns him off on Marshall:

    1) Dude seems to find trouble annually. Not sure if the Bucs need an Aqib Talib wannabe on offense.

    2) Why would the Broncos, on the cusp of making the playoffs last year, not only bench him when they needed a win to make the playoffs but are shopping him? Red flags my friend, red flags.

  23. Finerdetailz Says:

Well I see your point however you did feel different about Bryant after you had a sit down with him and with the hitler wannabe in Denver I’m sure there are two sides to that story. My guess is the fans in Denver are ready to run Adolph off and will do more so when marshall gets dealt. There is something wrong for sure but at least talk to the guy and go from there.

  24. Tommy Boy Says:

We can’t have our cake and eat it too. The level headed and talented receivers aren’t available for trade. Those not wanting Marshall need to consider what we currently have….NADA! Marshall will come with headaches but he will also come with 100 catches, 1200 yds, and 10+ tds. I was against trading for him at first but now that AB is gone an Boldin isn’t available Marshall is the next option. Ask yourself, would you rather watch nice guys suck (Clayton) or watch a pain in the ass beast own defenses? He is a headache and comes with risks. But the reward he offers far outweighs those risks….especially when we are trying to develop our franchise QB.

    Eric,

Your idea if Spiller is exactly what I was thinking. Talk about exciting!

  25. big007hed Says:

I would do a cart wheel if we pulled this trade off, well if I could get my fat ass to actually do one, but I think if we could get Marshall to go along with Winslow and whatever other WR we draft in the 2nd round and Marshall with our RBs we would be actually scary on offense

  26. Joe Says:

    Finerdetailz:

Well I see your point however you did feel different about Bryant

The Bucs didn’t trade for Bryant. He was on the sidewalk.

  27. big007hed Says:

The link for that story is no longer working, I wonder if Bucs fans crashed their server lol

  28. Mike J Says:

I find it doubtful that Denver would offer so much. 1, who would they be targeting?? This is a “get a franchise QB” type of deal;2, the Broncos would essentially be dealing two #1’s for a move up 8 slots.Too much.

  29. d-money Says:

    Aldo,

That is a valid point but I don’t think Glenn Dorsey or Gaines Adams had anywhere near the buzz that these three guys have.

Also I just don’t see them trading for a guy with the troubled history that Marshall has after supposedly releasing AB for the very same reasons.

  30. DaRealist727 Says:

I would make this trade in an heartbeat. You pick up Marshall, make him happy with a long-term deal, and still have a 1st rounder in the top 11 picks. This would give us the best receiver in the game to team up with our promising QB and the beast of a TE that we have in Kellen Winslow, and it would allow us to address all of our other needs with the rest of the picks (although I hope they still target Shipley in the draft). I know they balk at the contract that he may demand, but look at what they were willing to value Clayton at?!?!?! Go ahead and cut him, take the salary hit and give the fans what they want, BM!!!!!

  31. Radio Mushmouth Says:

This trade would actually make sense , and improve the team dramatically…which of course is why it will never happen…

If the Rams & Lions take the two big DT’s, leaving Bradford to Tampa, I could see Denver trading up from 11 to draft Bradford. In exchange the Bucs get pick 11, Brandon Marshall, and a 3′rd rounder. At #11 the Bucs pick Rolando McClain, best LB in the Draft. Haha, never going to happen.
