Raheem Throws Mark Dominik Under The Bus

December 21st, 2009

Maybe Raheem the Dream is really starting to feel the heat about his job security?

Last week the local pen and mic club began pressing Raheem the Dream about the mistakes the Bucs have made the past year — too numerous to count.

As the Mad Twitterer of the St. Petersburg Times documents, Raheem the Dream all but threw general manager Mark Dominik under the bus, possibly in a desperate effort to save himself.

Morris made it clear the hirings of Jagodzinski and Jim Bates were made in concert with Dominik. “I do everything with everybody, every decision I make,” Morris said when asked if he alone made the decision to hire Jagodzinski and Bates. “I’m not sitting here and trying to blame anybody. We make decisions together, and we live with those, and we have to react off those.”

Wait a minute: If Raheem the Dream is not trying to blame anyone, why even bring that up? That reminds Joe of some clown that calls talk radio and prefaces his/her comments with, “I’m not a racist, but… “

Dominik may have been involved with the hiring of Bates, but it appears from all indications Dominik simply rubber-stamped Raheem the Dream’s hire. Raheem the Dream is very close with the Bates family.

To Raheem the Dream’s (and Dominik’s) defense, since Raheem the Dream was such a late hire, the pickings were slim. All the top candidates had already been hired by other teams. Both Dominik and Raheem the Dream were behind the eight-ball in hiring assistants from the start.

I think it is a too harsh to say that Raheem was “throwing him under the bus.” Does anyone really think it was Raheem’s sole decision to hire the coordinators? It sounds to me like he was merely stating the obvious. BTW I don’t think he is on the hot seat

    Paul,

I agree with your assessment. Joe please don’t forget the Glazers fired Allen and Gruden very late, really restricting the available pool for coordinators. If you will recall, most staffs for almost all the teams in the NFL were established by the time Gruden and Allen were fired.

First time coach, first time GM, you can bet the Glazers had to more than just “rubber stamp” these hires.

Raheem spoke the truth? How dare he do that!

    Another non-story.

  5. admin Says:

    Joe here,

    JoeMurgia, of course it’s a “non-story.” Duh.

The point is Raheem could have easily just said, “I’m the head coach. The coordinators were my guys. Anything else is irrelevant.”

It’s just the choice of answer that is interesting, if nothing else. Everyone is free to interpret it as they wish.

  6. JoeMurgia Says:

And of course you interpret it as Raheem throwing MD under the bus. Not surprised. He did no such thing. He answered a question truthfully.

  7. Wayne Says:

JoeMurgia, If Raheem (Radio) was so honest, why hasn’t he simply fessed up and stated that he has no experience as a head coach, but was taking the job to see if he could do it. Instead, he comes on like gangbusters, and his team sucks. You can defend him all you want. But the truth is Radio is an amatuer playing at being a head coach & has made our Bucs into a laughing stock of the league. Let the Glazers keep him. Then watch the ticket sales for next year. After all, the fans know what he is about now, don’t they?

  8. Tom Says:

Of all of the position coaches of the 32 NFL teams, former coaches, college coaches, etc there were NO good, quality, coordinator candidates available or interested in being an NFL Offensive or Defensive Coordinator.

    None.

Yup, you nailed it on the head. 😉

  9. BigMacAttack Says:

How can Raheem throw MD under the Bus when the Bus is dragging Raheem down the street? I don’t understand and don’t care to.

  10. Matt Says:

You seem to sensationalize things quite a bit here Joe.

Raheem was just telling the truth. Plus, even if it was just Raheem’s decision alone, he’s the type of guy that wouldn’t want it to seem like he’s taking any control away from Dominik.
