Raheem The Dream “Likely Out”

December 19th, 2009

As Joe pointed out earlier today, one can make valid arguments to keep Raheem the Dream one more year or that he should be sent packing in three weeks (or earlier).

Robert Bolund of the NationalFootballPost.com is of the mind that Raheem the Dream is “likely out.”

Bolund lists the coaches that, in his mind, are walking a tightrope between employment and unemployment. He pulls no punches on Raheem the Dream.

Raheem Morris… [h]as demonstrated repeatedly that he wasn’t ready for the job. Tampa is a profitable team, despite still paying Jon Gruden not to coach. Making a big splash might help sell tickets. This franchise should not be this bad.

While Bolund makes some salient points about Raheem the Dream, Bolund blows all of his credibility when he also lists in the same group with Raheem the Dream, Eric Mangini and Jim Zorn such respected coaches as Mike Tomlin and Jeff Fisher.

I don’t think Raheem would be a bad choice for DC. I think the guy has potential to be a pretty good HC in the league; I just think the trigger was pulled on him too early. I know he was the DC at Kansas State, but I don’t think he ever was even an assistant DC while he was a position coach in the NFL. He never had an opportunity to shadow and learn directly from a DC at the NFL level. He’s been learning on the fly, and in my opinion, he’s done a pretty sharp job at that.
What he hasn’t done a sharp job of has been a lot of the decision-making required from the HC position. Raheem skipped a LOT of coaching levels (and learning opportunities) going from position coach directly to head coach. I think he’s capable of being a good head coach, if given the opportunity to grow into it in a natural way like other head coaches are. Tabbing him for the head coach position was a great gesture of confidence, but ultimately it was unfair to him. I just hope it hasn’t ruined his NFL career. Having the opportunity to hold the reins could potentially be a great opportunity for him to see the big picture that most position coaches don’t get to see until years later in their careers. He could use this experience to fast-track his future learning.

Will he be given the chance? I sure hope so. But for now, I think he would be a pretty good DC, or position coach with additional assistant DC duties. He’s been given the shock of his life. Now put him in a position where he can do some good and let him grow naturally.

I sure hope he is out. I m back in Tampa now (my home town) and the general mood of everyone is reminiscent of the mood in the late 80’s and early 90’s. A lot of frustration, suicidal thoughts and general apathy. People are sick of losing and the stigma that is tied to it. I hope the Glazer’s wise up and not let the franchise be dragged into the abyss like it was for so many years

    so……the “Bust in Waiting ”
    has landed

  5. BigMacAttack Says:

I’d say they pretty much found the Abyss now and are dragging their asses off. If those dumbbells do fire Raheem, they will wait until the last possible minute when the available Coaching pool has been drained of everyone except Mickey, Minnie & Donald, although Donald may make a better OC than Olson. It is quite possible that Joel Glazer may be considering himself to be the next head coach extraordinaire.

Fire him not demote him. Get him out of the lockerroom all together. Don’t keep him around as a scapegoat for an excuse for all his friends/ players on defense. Let him try to cross that burnt bridge at K State. Didn’t they sue him for breaking his contract there? They should sue him for breaking his contract of being a head coach here IMPOSTER Beat It Raheem

I think Tristan must be Radio’s Cousin or something. Radio should have been fired “games” ago. Bring Jeff Fisher in here. Hell, bring ANY REAL coach in here. Just get this AMATUER out of here. Personally, I think that Joel should get down on his knees and …….beg Jon Gruden to come back.
Radio has as much of a chance of winning the last three games as I do of winning the Florida Lotto, and I didn’t buy a ticket!

The Glazers just fired their coach at Man U. Let’s hope they have a couple more on their list.
