Joe’s Fourth Quarter Thoughts

November 22nd, 2009

Saints 38, Bucs 7

* Joe cannot remember the last time he’s seen an NFL defensive line totally get blown up play after play after play.

* How can anyone with a straight face make any excuses for this defensive line?

* Joe doesn’t know what to say about how pathetic this defensive line is. When Joe criticizes the guy responsible for the defense, Joe catches nasty hell. Joe cannot with a straight face leave the guy blameless. Cannot. If Joe does, he’s being grossly dishonest. That’s like a company that loses money hand over fist and the CFO getting a free pass.

* Only question with this game is if the Saints break 40 points.

* The way the Saints are manhandling the Bucs defensive line, it looks like a bad high school game.

* There was a Quincy Black sighting. First time Joe heard his name called all day. Joe assumes someone on the Saints missed a block.

* Geno Hayes shows some respectability with a tackle for a loss.

* Joe politely asks, can some bum off the street do any worse than most of the slugs on the Bucs defensive line?

I’m all for firing Bates right now. The defense isn’t even competitive.

  2. Mr. Lucky Says:

Since Raheem is “supposed to” be a defensive guy – FIRE BATES NOW and let Raheem take over the defense.

heck if the Skins call back their guy from calling bingo what about letting Steve White call the defensive plays?

  3. Trox Says:

Mr. Lucky, I like your idea about Steve White, not gonna happen, but I like it!

  4. Fredrick Says:

Nobody’s really talking about our horrendous LB play that much. Has Ruud even made a tackle for a loss this season? Black disappears into nothingness for vast stretches of games, and Hayes, for every occasional “splash” play, gets blown back off the ball most others.

The entire LB corps looks like glorified special teamers and can all be upgraded/replaced as far as I’m concerned.

  5. Louie Says:

Defense is just inexcusable. This is the NFL and you have to have a defense. Anyone at the Bucs hear the saying “defense wins championships”? What a joke.

  6. Fredrick Says:

Well, at least Coach Morris put this game and this season all in succinct and thoughtful perspective in his post-game conference, I WISH!

Did you catch it? WTF, is this guy talking about???

  7. RastaMon Says:

easy boys….for those of you that have just awoken…..this is a bottom of the NFL rung talent team…..it has been in the making since the Super Bowl deal with the NFL Devil….
only the naive believe otherwise…I am encouraged however as I see the inital backsliding catching a toehold as the multiyear slide seems to show signs of not falling off the next cliff……

Will be interesting to see if Steve White continues to defend these stiffs on the defensive line.
