Trueblood Says Bucs Won’t “Totally” Zone Block

August 14th, 2009

Jeremy Trueblood was among the many guests on Sirius NFL Radio’s “Movin’ the Chains” with Pat Kirwan and Tim Ryan broadcast live from One Buc Palace on Thursday.

Kirwan and Ryan’s show is heavily loaded on Xs and Os, which makes the show wonderful for the hardcore football fans. Whenever the duo interviewed a player they would have the player break down their specific schemes, coverages, assignments, responsibilities, etc.

Much has been made of the Bucs switching to a zone blocking scheme. JoeBucsFan.com analyst Steve Campbell broke that down for readers earlier this week. But unless Trueblood was blowing smoke, which is a possibility, he claimed the Bucs were not going to a zone-blocking scheme 100 percent of the time.

“We were so good,” Trueblood told Kirwan and Ryan of the previous style of straight-on blocking “that the coaches decided not to completely go away from that. We won’t be a totally zone-blocking team.”

Trueblood did confess that the vast majority of assignments will be zone blocking. How much, he didn’t say.
