Raheem Wants Galloway-Like Makeover

August 5th, 2009

It was rain delay time this morning at Bucs training camp, and Raheem The Dream watched the raindrops and storm clouds while joining the Ron and Ian Show on 620 WDAE-AM, The Sports Animal.

The Dream talked all things Bucs and one of the topics of note was the No. 3 wide receiver position. The battle for the spot remains wide open, The Dream said, not giving the slightest hint of an edge to anyone and not mentioning Kellen Winslow as someone who would get reps in that slot.

The Dream also went on to talk about how Dexter Jackson needs to learn how to play stronger and model himself after the success and transformation of Joey Galloway.

“Joey Galloway had those same issues [when he entered the NFL],” The Dream said. “He figured out a way to play fast, powerful and strong.”

So Joe has to ask: If you want your second round pick last year to grow up to be Joey Galloway, and you still need a No. 3 receiver to stand out and grab the job, why the hell didn’t you just keep Galloway? He could have mentored Jackson, stretched defenses, filled a role, and provided some backup at the No. 1 receiver slot.

He was good enough for mighty New England?

Joe just doesn’t get why Raheem The Dream purged all the veterans he did. It’s in the past, but it’s worth noting when the head coach goes down that road.

Joe the way Chucky babied Joey there was NO WAY Joey would tolerate Raheem’s training camp. Joey would simply cry, “HAMSTRING” or “GROIN” and be the prima dona that he has become.

Don’t get me wrong, Galloway is explosive and has talent but Joey learned a long time ago that the NFL is about $ and conserving his “body”. That “spark” wasn’t with Galloway last year and there were many times when you could tell the play wasn’t a pass by watching Joey’s actions on the field – just going thru the motion. How many downfield blocks was Galloway known for in his time with Tampa? …..crickets…crickets…

Joe believe me someone will step up and claim the #3 position in training camp. It takes some time but a leader will emerge – I’m just worried about getting him the ball

Yeah he was constantly hurt!? He did have three consecutive 1000+ yd seasons with 23tds for us(just one year removed from those 3; 2005, 06, and 07). Sorry, but you don’t get constantly hurt and put up those numbers.
