Leftwich Has “An Edge”

June 15th, 2009

By reading the tea leaves from various media reports and studying Bucs OTA clips like they are the Zapruder film, one can reach the conclusion that Byron Leftwich has the upperhand as the potential Bucs starting quarterback come September.

In an article posted this morning on Buccaneers.com, Bucs coach Raheem The Dream came close to admitting as such without showing his poker hand. Raheem The Dream admitted that Leftwich’s experience givens him an advantage over the other Bucs QBs.

“You’ve got to say it’s an edge, because there is experience, but it’s all going to be determined in the preseason,” said Buccaneers Head Coach Raheem Morris, on which the final decision rests. “These guys have got to go out and do it here. We want to see what have you done for me lately, to be honest with you, so we’ve got to get them out there on the field, let those guys go out and compete in the preseason and be ready to go.”

As Joe pointed out before with Justin Pawlowski during his radio show, “The Blitz” on WDAE-AM 620, reports suggest Leftwich is the starter, most Bucs team video from OTAs show Leftwich taking snaps and when asked about quarterbacks, Bucs receivers mention Leftwich first.

If one connects the dots, it seems Leftwich is currently the leader for the starting job.
