Justin Pawlowski revisits the steep price paid by the Bucs for Keyshawn Johnson

Justin Pawlowski, host of The Blitz on 620 AM, The Sports Animal, has entered the new millenium with his Draft Rewind Series (scrowl down slightly on his page).

Pawlowski reminds us how the Bucs dealt two first round picks for Keyshawn Johnson, and how one should look at the success of the deal in evaluating the draft. Thought-provoking stuff.

From where Joe sits, Keyshawn helped push the Bucs over the edge into the promised land. He’d make the trade again.

Joe is now just nine days away from the debut of Pawlowski’s exclusive NFL draft coverage debuts on JoeBucsFan.com.

It will be can’t-miss coverage!

Well looking back at the draft record of the Bucs and the numerous “average” and below average players that the Bucs have drafted it really appears that the trade of 2 first round picks for Keyshawn was a good value.

After Keyshawn left the Bucs have really “sucked” at the WR position until 2008 with the emergence of Antonio Bryant. Sure there was Michael Clayton’s rookie season and Joey Galloway has shown glimers or brillance but consistency just hasn’t been there.

Heck I’d trade away our #19 pick to Cincy for TJ Houshmandanez in a heartbeat. Imagine Bryant on one side with TJ on the other and thrown in Ike for the short across the middle route and you’d have defenses cringing….that’s assuming the Bucs have a QB who can get the ball there!

If Luke can have a season like he did when he played in most preseason games there is hope. Remember that game in Tokyo where Luke really impressed?

I look forward to seeing how you grade this upcoming draft class Justin. Hopefully the Bucs talent scouts have gotten better.

Wait how about this trade – the Bucs 1st round pick to Arizona for Boldin?

  3. JK Says:

Joe, I have to agree with you on this one. I fill it did put us over the top. No one took a hit over the middle like Key. It’s a shame Gru and Key couldn’t put their differences aside.

Enjoyed the Blitz show for the first time last week. Came in clear up on Ctirus. They need that guy on in the a.m. Hey Lucky, if KEyshawn was worth 2 first rounders than Boldin surely is too. …Maybe we should just get Santana MOss back here. That’s who NewYork took with our pick.
