Brooks, Dunn, Galloway Gone!

February 25th, 2009

Joe has just heard on Sirius NFL Radio that Derrick Brooks, Warrick Dunn and Joey Galloway have all been cut as have Cato June and Ike Hilliard.

In short, Joe says, “WOW!”

Solomon Wilcots claims the cuts were due to salary cap reasons. Joe calls bullspit on that. The Bucs are $55 million under the cap.

Gil Brandt, speaking on “The Red Zone,” claims the fact Brooks was cut tells him that the Bucs will be moving away from the Cover-2 scheme. If that is the case, Joe has to ask how Ronde Barber survived the purge?

Much more to come throughout the day on JoeBucsFan.com.

    WOW!

  2. Kris Says:

    You don’t cut Derrick Brooks..EVER.PERIOD

  3. Drew Says:

We do not know the whole story… It would not shock me if we resigned Dbrooks

We better go after Albert and Vima,BScott,Channing

You dont cut the 2005 version of DB, but the 2009 version had to go — he obviously wouldn’t retire. Either way, it was time to cut loose every one of these guys — Raheem is a real coach, a lesser man would never have made this type of controversial move

The Bucs are in good hands

Kris hit this right on the head. The Heart & Soul of this defense, if not this team just was released. There is the possibility of re-signing him deeper into free agency, but will he want to come back? Granted, DB and Ronde looked slow during the December meltdown, but I was hoping they would bring in some young talent and maybe limit the old guys playing time as the season went on. There better be some major developments over the next few days. I am definitely not satisfied to go from a team that should’ve won the division to a “rebuilding” year. I feel like I just got kicked in the junk.

they only save $3mil by cutting Brooks per profootballtalk.com,, thats nothing when you have $50 +mil in cap room. If you’re cutting him to save that little amount, you have no interest in bringing him back. I already dislike the new GM and Coach already. It’s not like D.B.has become a total bum or injury prone and never plays.Brooks and Dunn were the reason i became a bucs fan back in 95-96,cutting Brooks like this is close to the last straw. Firing Gruden and hiring a 31 y/o coach with no head coach experience was bad. This is brutal.

  7. JK Says:

Wow is right! Just think if Gruden and Allen did that. The fair weather fans would have burned down the cits.

You don’t like/LOVE a team just because of players. They sweeten the deal and make it a fun ride.

#55 needed to take a lesser role. This route? I dunno.

If he plays again, he’ll resign here and take less $ and snaps.

Reason he is gone is cuz if another team wants a 1st down, all they gotta do is send a sure handed TE DB’s way. He can’t hang with that SPEED any more.

First ballot HOF’er. What a STUD we had~! He will be MISSED dearly!

This is a new ERA of BUCS football people like it or not!
