Da’Quan Bowers Activated For Vikings Game

October 25th, 2012

Joe’s not sure if this is hitting the panic button or a smart thing, but the Bucs just announced through the team’s official Twitter feed that defensive end Da’Quan Bowers has been activated and will play tonight against the Vikings.

@TBBuccaneers: The Bucs have just activated DE Da’Quan Bowers from the PUP list. He should play tonight against the Vikings.

Bowers blew out his Achilles working out at One Buc Palace in May. Generally, this is an injury that takes a year to heal properly.

Yeah, the Bucs’ pass rush could use some help now that Adrian Clayborn was put on the injured reserve list. But was it the Bucs didn’t have a pass rush against the Saints because Bowers and Clayborn weren’t on the roster, or because Bucs coach Greg Schiano gave the blessing to only rush Drew Brees with three men, basically allowing him to get his oil changed before having to throw the ball?

If Bowers reinjures his Achilles, it will be one helluva debt to pay by rolling the dice. Joe’s not of the mind that the gamble is worth it.

I’ll be curious to see where they play him when he does come back healthy. With Clayborn down and Bennett playing so well I hope they put Bowers at rde.

  2. bucsfaninchina Says:

I wouldnt say bennett has been as shut down as the bucs wanted him to be… very curious move here. Would hate to see the kid get furthrr injury

  3. Sneedy16 Says:

Hopefully he does as well as Terrell Suggs on his first game back. He only played 12 snaps, but had 4 tackles and a sack. Is that too much to ask for?

  4. Sneedy16 Says:

I’m know that he is in running form for the pass rush. I wouldn’t think that they would rush him back if they were sure. The only thing I fear like most Bucs fans is him trying to bull rush a 300lbs linemen and overdoing it. When the adrenaline is pumping I doubt he will realize how much force he is putting on that tendon.

  5. Patrick Says:

The last thing we want is for him to re-injure himself. Seriously………it sounds like it’s a risky gamble. I hope they know what they’re doing.

  6. steven, RN Says:

    Joe i a
sorry but you are not a medical professional and do no have the education background to formulate your opinion a physician cleared him and so did a physical therapist i will trust there educated opinions maybe you should to.

  7. ElioT Says:

I will lose my freaking mind if he gets injured again. This D-line is cursed as it is, and this seems like a desperate move. I hope I’m wrong.

Go Bucs! Kick some Viking a**!!!

  8. Pete 422 Says:

@Steven RN: are you comfortable with him coming back after 5 months? BTW, were you there when they cleared Bowers to play? You know for sure a PT had a say?

  9. adamant Says:

He should definitely play on the right side and keep Bennett on the left. Also, on sure passing downs, they should slid Bennett inside (take Miller out) and either bring in George Johnson or Dekoda Watson to rush from the left.

  10. Oahubuc Says:

They better have done all due diligence on this. We have very little at stake to risk his health for. I doubt he plays a full load of snaps, though.

  11. SteveK Says:

How many times has Bowers Sacked Ponder back in the ACC?

  12. Pete Dutcher Says:

I doubt they will do more than give him limited action at best. He has to ease into things.

So to all you people watching the game tonight…don’t be hard on the guy if he makes some mistakes…he is not only rusty, but he has very little experience as well.

  13. Pete Dutcher Says:

Also…maybe in a few games he will start drawing the double teams…which will help everyone else on the line.

  14. Ian_620WDAE Says:

Suggs and now Bowers back on the active roster it just goes to show the miracle of modern medicine for an injury that used to take 12 to 18 months to recover.

I know Joe has been on the side of caution but if the doctor’s have cleared him, I say why not!

Anybody can get hurt on any snap in the NFL. Every play is a gamble

  15. Tbuc Says:

Gotta see if he can play or if he’s another wasted pick by Dominik.

  16. Miguel El Magnifico Says:

    Uh-oh!

  17. Bucobruce Says:

wooooooooooo! love it,if the doctor says he can play then he can play so lets start getting him into football shape starting tonite when we give the vikings there first home lose of the season.BUCS 24 Vikings 13.

  18. bucfanjeff Says:

If he’s cleared, give him some snaps. We have to trust the doctors.

  19. raphael Says:

AWESOME……I think he will play on 3rd and long…in the dime package

  20. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Part of me is super excited, the other is super nervous. I remember when an achilles injury was pretty close to being a career ender.

  21. Nate Says:

    Im so Happy hes playing!

  22. steven, RN Says:

no but i have faith in my medical colleagues, everybody is different and that is what i am saying the ability to heal is growing exponentially and the standard is pt clearance duh!

  23. bucsfaninchina Says:

Everyone, shut up. Steven the nurse is talking.

  24. JBUC24 Says:

Yea buddy!!!!! Great news and prob a factor the Vikings may not have seen coming! Loko for him taking snaps from Daniel Teo-whatever. Should be fun!

  25. 1976Buc Says:

If the injury report was correct this is a little scary. It typically takes some time to overcome. I don’t think Schiano would take a short term approach to this and risk long term implications. We need him healthy next year.

  26. raphael Says:

bowers had a partial separation..I ain’t no doctor but I hears tale that its better than a tear..

  27. aj Says:

Bennett has been smothered in double teams the last two weeks. If Bowers can take a little pressure off of him hopefully the pass rush can succeed a little more.

  28. posey99 Says:

A buddy of mine (who just received his “Dr.” in physical therapy ) and I were talking about this. He said the technology they have now is far and above what they had just a few years ago… and its not surprising. I hope he’s right.
