Freeman Bonding With Haynesworth
November 17th, 2011The Twilight Zone theme music eerily pounded through Joe’s head as he drove on I-275 listening to The Josh Freeman Show on WDAE-AM 620 last night.
Freeman was talking about having lengthy football conversations with Albert Haynesworth after the Bucs-Texans game. Freeman praised Haynesworth and said he valued having a veteran like Haynesworth around and called him “a mentor.”
Joe looked in his back seat to see of there was Talking Tina doll there waiting to stab him.
All this Haynesworth stuff is just surreal to Joe. Joe’s rooting hard for Haynesworth. The Bucs desperately need him to perform. But it’s still hard to accept that No. 95 is a positive influence who left all his baggage on the plane from New England.
Yesterday, Raheem Morris praised Haynesworth for being communicative and for his work ethic, describing a scene of seeing Haynesworth already in at One Buc Palace working with trainers at 8 a.m. Wednesday. “He just wants to help his team win,” Raheem said.
Joe hopes it continues. Haynesworth has to know his career rides on his performance and behavior over the next seven weeks.

This speaks volumes of their NEED of some veteran leadership….it’s sad that you have to get a cast off that has legendary character issues to prove it. Honestly I think Haynesworth maybe okay with such a young team knowing that there are no other MEN in the room to sweat him…

these young guys are just craving leadership and there is nobody to give it to them. how sad is it that haynesworth comes in a week ago and instantly all our young guys are turning to him for guidance.

gotbbucs, that is the biggest indictment of this coaching staff that I can imagine. I mean freaking Haynesworth? A mentor? The guy stopped playing every time a play got slightly away from him on Sunday. He played ok, but he was slacking too. And this is the MENTOR???

I can’t understand why so many people seem to be rooting against #95. Yes, things didn’t go well in Washington and New England. But that’s in the past, folks. He’s on a 8 game test drive. Just wipe the slate clean in your head an make an evaluation at the end of the season based on what he’s done since he got to TAMPA. What he does here has nothing to do with what he did in New England/Washington and vice versa. Wipe it clean, people. There’s no risk. This team can’t get any worse than it is right now. Especially the defense. Afterall, their close to setting an NFL record for yards per play given up.
We keep POS Talib around. I don’t hear Freeman calling him a “mentor”.

matt, i think its pretty simple. you release roy miller and plug haynesworth into the rotation.

Well, maybe. Except:
1) There are slight differences between the UT and NT position, where Miller plays. And Haynesworth already said he felt a bit uncomfortable playing on that side.
2) McCoy has been playing 80-90% of the snaps at UT when healthy, meaning you’ve got Price and Haynesworth competing for the other snaps.
3) Haynesworth allegedly complained that he wasn’t getting enough snaps in NE. Well, when McCoy comes back, guess, what, you’re going back to 30 snaps a game.

Look at it this way Joe. If Haynesworth does blow up you will be able to blame the season on him. That way your beloved Glazerhouse family and Coach Morris won’t take the heat.

Not a surprise. They talk the same way about Talib.
It is their style:
Say it enough and everyone, including the player themselves believe it.
Kind of like telling a young team with some talent you are great, you’re doing good things, you are the best in the NFC right now, etc….
They are being obnoxiously positive hoping that it rubs off and the people they are talking about buy into it.
Say anything enough and eventually people believe it:

All that said, I personally think they need to step back from it a little and start demanding more from these “yungry” players
