What’s Raheem’s Magic Number?

March 12th, 2010

Despite the apparent job security of Raheem The Dream, the head coach will have to take the team to a new level next year.

So just what does Raheem The Dream have to accomplish?

Joe took on this topic on the JoeBucsFan.com Radio Network with former Bucs defensive end Steve White. The conversation spiraled to Jim Bates and how he was even hired.

Fun stuff. Enjoy.

Just my opinion I think Raheem was not ready to become a head coach, yeah nonoe of the players are saying anything bad about him cause he hangs out with them but he had never been a cordinator in the NFL and when he was a cordinator at K-state the defense was good but they were not a defense you say hey that was a great defense. I like Morris but his immaturity sometimes overshadows his potenital. I think he is growing into being a coach. His growth will be big in how many wins we get.

  2. Eric Says:

Rather than wins, I think it is tied directly to the development of Freeman. If he progresses and looks like the real deal franchise QB to build around, Rah stays. On the other hand, if he slips and starts looking like a bust, hes a gonner. Dom too I think.

All the more reason to get a receiver for the guy, and a quick running back for third down.

  3. Lester Says:

When will you guys replace Mike Pepper?

  4. LaughingCat Says:

I want to like Raheem. I want the Bucs to succeeed. And there is a part of me that thinks IF Raheem pulls this off and we end up in the playoffs a few years down the road with a rapidly improving core of players, I want to say I didn’t fully doubt him. But I am very fearful that I am chasing false hope.

    Sell ManU Glazers.

  5. bucfanlostiniowa Says:

What I got out of this broadcast is this: One of the big reasons the Glazer’s gave Raheem a second chance was they felt guilty about sticking him with Jim Bates.

  6. RahDomDaBest Says:

Keep blaming Jim Bates for the remainder of this off-season… but in the meantime, make sure you find a few more scapegoats for the upcoming disaster, part 2.

  7. Tj Tillman Says:

100% agree we will know by the first month of football

  8. Mr. Lucky Says:

My biggest problem with the Bucs THIS year is this: ———–

Last year with Gruden gone and all the changes everyone was optimistic and hopeful. In fact may looked at the 2009 like the Presidental election; We had Hope and wanted Change.

Unfortunately the changes we got were not for the better.

The hope has since turned to dispair.

Last year there was lots of speculation about Free Agency and some of us were even crying for Facestomper.

This year Dominik has quashed any hope for free agency help.

So what do we have to look forward to as Bucs fans?

The draft and how 2-3 ROOKIES will have an immediate impact to make the 2010 Bucs into winners?

Sorry but the honeymoon is over.

Just like I feel the politicans in Washington are trying to push this healthcare crap down my throat I feel like the Bucs are pushing their crap onto the field as well.

It’s really hard to get excited …

  9. Sgt Mike Says:

In my opinion he must win 6 maybe 7 games to keep his job. Barring lockout I think Cowher is running the pirate ship in 2011. I think the llooming lockout is the only reason he is not the coach right now and when the Cowboys choke this year look for Chucky to come out of his cave at the forum to take the Star to the top. All this barring the lockout possibility for 2011. You heard it here first on JBF!

  10. Eric Says:

All this lock out talk is pure posturing and a convenient excuse. No way in this economic climate are these NFL guys going to allow that. It crippled baseball for years.

The bucs have been unloading salaries since 05, which accounts more for the decline than Gruden/Allen or even Raheem/Dom. Before it was to “get under the cap” to engage in free agency and sign core players to long term deals. Now that the cap is no more it is allegedly by choice to “build through the draft”.

What will be the next excuse? Do we even have a player in the top ten in salary at his position? Our coaching staff definately isn’t. Money talks, BS walks.

  11. RahDomDaBest Says:

The salary cap floor has risen to what the cap once was 5 years ago.

With the gloomy economy outlook for many years to come, and the fact the Tampa is a small market team, the Glazers can’t compete in free agency anymore.

So this is why the owners colluded together to go into the un-capped year with no floor, extra RFA’s and the position to pressure the union to lower revenue sharing. That is the primary reason why they aren’t spending. They want a new NFL business model/labor contract that is feasible… it can’t go up forever.

Look at it like the NFL bubble.

In saying all this, I still am po’d that we couldn’t get a REAL coach to make the best of a free agentless situation. Not this joker.

  12. Jonny Says:

Guys, it would be one heckuva job to win 6 or more games with a young team and without big free agent signings.

  13. Jonny Says:

JOE, STEVE, will there be any more articles in the bull rush column? May be you could talk a bit about our LBs.

  14. RahDomDaBest Says:

Jonny, our schedule is easier this year… so we could just get lucky and win a few close ones.

If we pull off 6-7 wins, then people will think we have turned it around and are on the fast track… over joyed. Raheem would coach again for a 3rd season! Then what? Do you really think that would equate to a play off team the next year?

    Come on.

With Gruden, two straight 9-7 years weren’t good enough???

This crap doesn’t add up and that’s what I hate the most.

The difference between politics and football is, in politics, you can lie about your accomplishments, but in football, games get played and the records don’t lie.

So this Raheem bandwagon SHOULD only last a year longer than it needs to be (being this year)… but it could be worse… he could win 6-7 and everyone would then annoint him.

EVEN THOUGH TWO 9-7 years WEREN’T GOOD ENOUGH. Again, it doesn’t add up.

  15. Eric Says:

According to Forbes, in 2009, the Bucs were the eighth most profitable club in the NFL, with revenue of 241 million and operating income at 68 million.

The value of the team is listed at 1.1 billion. The Glazers paid 192 million for the team.

If thats a gloomy financial picture id like to try it out.

And the best we can do is Reggie Brown? Total BS.

  16. chucky Says:

Come on guys Raheem gets a pass with 6 wins?

I went 9-7 my last 2 years and I got canned!!!!!

I hope you enjoy my upgrade.

  17. OAR Says:

Well last year it was 3, so who knows.

  18. Eric Says:

I just wonder when all the jerk off Gruden haters are gonna hold Raheem to the same standard as they did Gruden. If he losses a couple of playoff games are they gonna complain of “one and done”.

Of course not. 3 wins is great progress. Nine totally sucks. Win the Division? pitiful…………guys gotta GO.

Sorry Eric. Joe had to clean that up. Love the passion though! — Joe. 🙂

  19. Sgt Mike Says:

I agree, my posting about 6-7 wins was not what I feel is good enough but what I feel is good enough for those cheap bastard Glazerhouses. I barely think “Raheem and his band of Idiots” will get a coordinator job after this. Back to defensive backs maybe. I would have never hired him in the first place and I have no confidence that our Pewtered Pirates will amount to squat under this coach/gm tandem. I wanted change from Gruden but if we couldn’t do it in a positive direction keep Gruden as he at least kept us competitive.

  20. Radio Mushmouth Says:

8 wins or GTFO you illiterate moron !
