Lovie Won’t Name Glennon The No. 1 QB

September 29th, 2014

mike glennon 0929

The question came quickly this afternoon at Lovie Smith’s news conference, and the head coach wasn’t biting.

Lovie, if Josh McCown is healthy next week, is he your starting quarterback or is it Mike Glennon?

“You’re asking me to name our starting quarterback right now?” Lovie responded.

Lovie went on to say he sees who’s available at every position and makes decisions appropriately.

The head coach also said Glennon did what was expected of him in the thrilling win against the Steelers..

“When you’re labeled ‘quarterback of the future,’ that’s what you’re supposed to do when you come out,” Lovie said.

Joe doesn’t get why Lovie won’t go all-in with Glennon, considering the Josh McCown Experience failed.

Apparently, Lovie wants controversy.

    _____________

Uhh, yeah! I’m convinced the Bucs won yesterday in spite of Lovie, not because of Lovie.

  2. Lynch Says:

I think everyone predicted this response from Lovie.

  3. skelly Says:

He won’t admit a mistake. Saying Glennon should be in in week 4 means he should have been in week 1. Fans know it. He knows it. We all know the score here but it bothers me that he won’t own where his team is at.

  4. GreatStuff Says:

Steeler fans are hilarious. Bet they weren’t ready to fire Tomlin last week against Carolina. Way to go Glennon! You guys realize the best part about Glennon starting is that when he wins, the team he beats wants to fire their head coach. If that doesn’t put a smile on your face…..

  5. skelly Says:

I can tell you GreatStuff. Talked to 30 steelers yesterday. They think they are a better team, sure. But they all, to a person, were asking “why didn’t Glennon start the year. Guy looked good last year!” Other fans think he can play.

  6. Mark Says:

No rush or need to name a starter. It’s glennon’s job to lose either way. Don’t expect a call to be made until it needs to be.

  7. robert9 Says:

glennon’s got more fire in his fart than lovie has in his belly.

this will only strenghtne glennon, and shows lovie can’t admit he’s wrong.

the team won in spite of lovie

  8. GreatStuff Says:

Skelly…The kid played his heart out. Its obvious he needs a chance to play. Im a fan for sure. The players seem to play harder for him. Go Glennon!!

  9. robert9 Says:

and thx joe for finally usig a decent glennon picture

  10. Biron Says:

As Tony Dungy says… Don’t create a QB controversy

  11. JBuc Says:

LightningBuc- yep, you are probably sooo right on this. They probably all got together as a team and said this guy clearly has no idea what he’s doing so it’s all on us if we ever want to sniff a victory.

I’m sure they have zero respect for all of his experience and success within this league. This guy can’t win with you people. If he loses it’s because he’s an idiot and the team has quit on him. If they win it’s in spite of him.

    Great post though!

  12. BlakeJohnson Says:

Well, I can’t say I didn’t expect this, but I was certainly it wouldn’t happen. The best thing Lovie could’ve done was to come out and say this is Mike’s team now, but at least he didn’t definitively say that Josh is still the starter. I’m hoping that Licht can help convince Lovie to make the right call.

  13. Tom Edrington Says:

Even after Glennon threw a cool bucket of water on Lovie’s flaming arrsssssss

  14. JayBucBoi Says:

Fans want it all. Of course coach didn’t give the media their satisfaction story. Probably because he’s more concerned about addressing it internally & feeling the pulse of his players. Letting the team know they’re his priority, as all good head coaches in this league does. Maybe he should follow in the footsteps of Joe Philbin & create distractions, or better put allow the media create team distractions? Yea he’s a great example to follow. I’m sure MG8 will be our starter in New Orleans, & McCown will be helping coach him up.

  15. DI Says:

My guess is that he wants opponents to be unsure of who’s starting so they’re forced to gameplan for both. Just like what coaches do with injury reports. As long as he named Glennon the starter behind closed doors, I’m fine.

  16. Buc1987 Says:

“When you’re labeled ‘quarterback of the future,’ that’s what you’re supposed to do when you come out,” Lovie said.

The future is now. That’s how I took that. I don’t know about the rest of you.

  17. Tackleblockwin Says:

I think this is the right comment by Lovie. I’m confident that McCown and Glennon both know that Glennon is starting vs Saints. Internally the Bucs know what is going on. No need to share info with Saints. McCown is prob out with hand injury anyways, but no need to confirm it. We don’t need Saints to have any extra info this week.

  18. skelly Says:

you know what topic JOE hasn’t hit yet. Bowers actually looked like a real NFL player yesterday in the snaps he got….Hell hath frozen over?

  19. Pro Libertate Says:

I’m not sure why it’s supposed to be a big deal to name a permanent change in the position right this instant. Why not see if Glennon can produce against the Saints? If he puts together a body of work, then the decision is very easy.

I get that McCown has had poor outings so far, and I would prefer at this point to make the move to Glennon, but I don’t think it disrupts the team or creates chaos just because the starting QB is in there because of injury and not by acclamation.

Might be a different story if McCown were ready to play now, but it sounds pretty clear that he isn’t.

  20. BlakeJohnson Says:

And for those of you who think that they got this win in spite of Lovie, or that they think he has no idea what he’s doing, *cough* LightningBuc/JBuc. I invite you to watch this awesome video from the bucs locker room after yesterdays gut-wrenching, awesome, comeback victory. Try and figure out if that room is behind him or not.

  22. sam Says:

Its smart actually, because what if Glennon lays an egg the next couple games?? Are you gonna back track and go back to McCown after you just proclaimed Glennon the starter after one game?? Please joe, you of all people should know better than that.

  23. Bill T Says:

Lovie is a politician. Covering his butt. He got bailed out by McCown’s injury and Glennon saved his from being 0-4. There is no future with McCown but Lovie is too stubborn to admit it

  24. robert9 Says:

I just want a straight answer for once.

  25. Buccfan37 Says:

Lovie waffling again. It sucks he can’t commit to what the majority want. Big dog won’t give Glennon or his fans their due. He thinks McCown is better, continually pointing out MG’s faults. He also stated about the MGM “what is there, about 50 of them”. Clueless!

  26. Bobby M. Says:

“Joe doesn’t get why Lovie won’t go all-in with Glennon, considering the Josh McCown Experience failed”

…..he’s grasping for straws both strategically and from a PR perspective

  27. lightningbuc Says:

Would the Bucs have won yesterday with McCown at QB? Probably Not

If McCown was healthy yesterday would Lovie have played him over Glennon? Yes

Therefore, the Bucs won in spite of Lovie.

  28. NewTampaChris Says:

Just read about E.J. Manuel being benched. Geno Smith isn’t far behind. Derek Carr shows promise but is 0-4. RG3 may be too fragile. Sam Bradford is. Alex Smith was a #1 overall pick. Johnny Manziel can’t beat out Brian Hoyer.

For all of you who are looking to the draft for our next “franchise” QB — beware.

  29. Buc1987 Says:

robert9…you’re not going to get one. It’s coach-speak.

Look man. Your boy is the starter now. So just chill.

    Bring on the Aint’s.

THIS MONDAY IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN LAST MONDAY!

Who do you thank for that? Mike Glennon that’s who.

  30. Mike Glennon Mob Says:

glennon’s got more fire in his fart than lovie has in his belly.

You sir are a gentleman and a scholar!

  31. SAMCRO Says:

Seriously, does the media really have to make a deal out of who Lovie chooses to use as his starter? Most of the local media spent all summer telling Lovie that Glennon is just a back-up, draft Manziel and trade Glennon. So instead of all that he brings in a veteran QB, makes him the starter and relegates Glennon to back-up giving the media at least one of the things they wanted.

Now the same local media members who wanted Glennon gone want Glennon to be the starter. Now, for some (they like to point out) noble reason they say to let Glennon play out the season to adequately judge his performance. BS ..The reason McCown was the season starter was because of these same media retards and now they want to tell Lovie what to do again. What? Let’s say Lovie does make Glennon the starter.

The first game he doesn’t play like an elite QB, they’ll be all over Lovie for making the switch too soon, and Glennon’s name will be mud once again. This behavior has become so predictable, and doesn’t allow the coach, the team, us fans revel in our win with out the media pissing on our parade.

  32. Buc1987 Says:

THIS MONDAY IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN LAST MONDAY!
    or
After week 1 & 2 damn these Thursday night games.

  33. Bill T Says:

[You should know better. — Joe]

  34. DB55 Says:

Mclown is now the 7th best qb in the NFL south. Probably 8th I forgot Rainey threw a pass yesterday.

  35. bucrightoff Says:

No point to naming one, let them plan for both. But if it’s not Glennon Lovie has not only burned all his goodwill, he’s pissed off the fan base. Tread carefully Lovie.

  36. The Ether Says:

“As Tony Dungy says… Don’t create a QB controversy”

With all due respect to Dungy, he has no business speaking about the offensive side of the ball. In Tampa, he wasted a good 3-4 years by not bringing in competition for Dilfer.

Lovie should let our QBs duke it out through competition… McCowns play might have been different if he wasnt garunteed that starting role. Whoever our QB ends up being this year, make em earn it! But so far, Glennon def has the edge…

  37. DB55 Says:

Glennon won the game dispite Lovie smith.

  38. Unislookgoodunislookugly Says:

And he shouldn’t . Glennon was horrific yesterday. If not for the D or the Steelers offense going totally genaric on last drive, The Glennon mob is getting hammered today after Glennon missed 4 passes in the red zone on the second to last drive. No wonder Steeler nation is in an uproar. The self appointed General of the Glennon mob is going to be eaten alive by the Big Dog. Cannot wait for that.

  39. Phillip Says:

Great win yesterday… I’m not hopping aboard any bandwagon after a game though….Freeman led many comebacks in the 4th and look how that all turned out(regardless of which side of the fence you are on about him)… I saw the same Glennon yesterday I saw from him last year honestly.. Solid play nothing too spectacular(that’s not an insult either)… Still tends to hold the ball too long and puts up too many soft deep balls(put it on a rope if you are gonna do it every once in awhile!) but the comparison to Matt Ryan is legit just as a poor man’s Matt Ryan(Ryan is a top 10 QB no shame in that)… Hope the kid continues to start and we continue to win and Glennon makes me eat some humble crow pie! 🙂

The Steelers don’t have that vaunted Steeler defense either so I would temper expectations a little…

Gave up 27 points to the Browns(who plays WR for them?).. 26 to the Ravens… 19 to the Panters and 27 to us…. See any kind of pattern here? They literally re-signed James Harrison from retirement this week because they needed another player guys… That doesn’t speak well for their amazing defense..

Our back 4 are playing like shit… That includes Verner getting ROASTED bad a couple times… Wish we had Antonio Brown that guy is an absolute STUD!

Just some random thoughts about the game yesterday!

BTW it was nice to cheer, yell, high five other fans(okay one other fan lmao!) and get excited in a bar for once watching the Bucs play!

    GO BUCS 🙂

  40. JBuc Says:

BlakeJohnson: please don’t lump me with those that think the Bucs won in spite of Lovie. I was simply pointing out those that do.

  41. Bucnjim Says:

The question should be would the Bucs have won one or both of their first two games at home with Glennon? YES!!

  42. The Ether Says:

These Glennon Groupies taking over JBF must have selective memory…

I admit, he got better as the game progressed, and the offense opened up… But where’s the love for the O Line giving up just 1 sack… Or the D line coming out of the gate like Beasts! Wheres the love for our D coming up HUGE with that 3 & out? To give Glennon a 2nd chance at closing??? Where’s the love for Mike Evans???

Seriously! This was a TEAM win!

Get off Glennons shaft you annoying ass selective-memory having Glennon Groupies! The Bucs won! …Not Mike Glennon!…. The Bucs!

  43. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Lovie knows exactly what he is doing. The twits just don’t see it.

  44. JBuc Says:

LightningBuc: last time I checked football is a team game. Glennon had a good game yesterday along with a lot of other players that Lovie was responsible for putting on that field. If you recall, I was one of a few saying this would come together under Lovie with patience. They are nowhere near a finished product and the QB position will also come to light with patience. More important is the fact that TEAM played together more so than previous games. Hopefully the this will become a trend.

  45. lightningbuc Says:

Just as the Glennon haters remind that Glennon led the worst offense in the NFL last year, Glennon led the Bucs to victory yesterday.

  46. robert9 Says:

but 87….you know i’m always on my period and never happy 🙂

  47. DB55 Says:

The only difference in the TEAM from week 1 to week 4 is/was Glennon. Same D, same rcv, same coaches. Just one difference.

  48. billy buckaroo Says:

    Why Should he bother?
    He Doesn’t need to!
McCown out for several weeks with his hand (likely)
Glennon is going to start regardless.

  49. rayjay1122 Says:

I think Glennon has potential to be a solid starter. No, he may never become the next Tom Brady, but IMO he deserves a chance. I mean look at the circumstances last season and now this season he has no OC and now the his QB coach has more on his plate, Glennon may be getting a little les individualized coaching. Hey, I remember when we all hated Steve Young and ran him out of town. Again, I am not saying he will ever be an All Pro QB but I do think he deserves to play this season out. JM is not our future and we really do need to see what we have in Glennon so we know what to do in the off season.

  50. Bill T Says:

Big Dawg brings up the 2 off throws on the 2nd to the last drive, lol. Brees, Rodgers, Brady never miss 2 throws, right? He says McCown lead Bucs back in first 2 games in 4th Qtr to near victories. That is so ridiculous. How about the 3 disastrous picks he threw before both that? There is no need for a comeback Big Dawwwg if those don’t happen

  51. JBuc Says:

Just remember, for all of you thinking that Lovie is against the idea of Glennon playing, he had plenty of opportunity to get rid of him enduring the offseason and elected to keep him.

  52. Bucnjim Says:

You know the haters are right ……Glennon will never be a Manning, Brady, Bree’s or Rodgers! What he can be though is a Flacco type guy with a strong arm and a tendency not to turn the ball over. We lost the first two games because of untimely turnovers and poor game management. Those who say he played poor are either related to McCown or did not watch the game!

  53. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I think Glennon should start if McCown isn’t fully healed (duh), but McCown should start the next game if he is healed. That’s propably what Lovie thinks too.

Mike Glennon did okay, but he didn’t claim the starting role for himself. He can’t do that in one game. Best scenario is that McCown needs another week and Glennon has an even better game (win). Two games is enough to show the beginning of consistency.

This isn’t about which QB is better now. That was during training camp. The best of two average to below average QBs does us no good. This is about Glennon stepping up his game to take the starting role from McCown. The harder he has to work to earn it, the more he’ll appreciated it and push himself.

If Mike Glennon is really going to be an elite franchise QB, he’s got to take command.

    Hi Steve!

  55. Bobby Says:

Bonzai…..are you serious??? You don’t think Glennon has ‘taken the starting role’?? What in the heck has McCown done to deserve KEEPING the starting job? Throw 4 picks and lose three in a row?

  56. Bucnjim Says:

Who was/is the only Bucs QB to EVER win in Pitts.? That is all you need to know! Everything else is just sour grapes!

  57. BlakeJohnson Says:

Having just watched the press conference for my self, I’m pretty confident that Lovie will name Glennon the starter, provided that he performs well in the next game. To paraphrase Lovie “I told our guys all year, you’ll get where you deserve to be.” Which tells me he’s about to join the MGM.

  58. Bobby Says:

Gee Ether….as I remember the defense also gave up 24 points after being ahead 10-0. Just sayin’…. It was a team victory but I think giving Glennon props after watching McCown self destruct the last three weeks is justified. Don’t you like Mikie?? Hi Steve!

    ……

lol! I was listening too and saw how he mentioned what I just wrote… Believe me! Ive never been a big dog fan, but I was stating the obvious:

    This was a TEAM win.

    – The D line (with those 2 sacks and the strip to setup our 1st score)
    – Mike Evans (BALLER ass catches!)
    – The O Line (just 1 sack… theyre finally gelling)
    – The D holding them to 3& out to give Glennon a 2nd chance
    – And YES! To Glennon for progressing throughout the game, & making the most in the final minute!

Again, it was a TEAM win! And I’m a BUCS fan.. Not a Glennon Fan… Not a Mike Evans fan. Players come and go.. But my loyalty is with the team! I just wish some of you ‘fans’ on here can could see the big picture that the BUCS won!

  61. Hawk Says:

    @ Unislookgoodunislookugly

If ” Glennon was horrific…”, then maybe you’ll share your appraisal of McCown, over the last three weeks?
‘Big Dog’ has no teeth, thanks to Scot Brantley (20 years ago). I haven’t listened to his show since Brantley punched him, on air. It could never get better than that. He’s just a pulpit bully that should be ignored. I wish he had talent, just so he’d be offered a job in a bigger market and leave.

  62. TAC Says:

You go with the hot hand QB, and that is Glennon until proven otherwise, or he is injured.

Saints can prepare for both right now, leave them to ponder the question, but am pretty sure they know who will be in there, lol.

  63. BlakeJohnson Says:

Unislookgoodunislookugly: Yeah those 4 “missed throws”… completely disregard the fact that the steelers got away 2 blatantly obvious pass interference penalties. And to be honest if we had scored on that possession, there’s a very real possibility that Big Ben could’ve been the one to lead his team to a comeback victory. Also I’m completely and utterly pleased with the way our D stepped up to get that 3 and out, I give them just as much credit for this win as I do the offense.

seriously, what are you 11? just got out of class?? dude, Im a BUCS fan! I root for this team! I saw that entire game from start to finish…

Both the D & Glennon started and finished strong… But both the D & Glennon were god-awful during the middle of the game… But they both got out wit a W with the help of the other…

    a TEAM win!

  65. Macabee Says:

I’ve listened to Lovie’s cryptic responses in his press conferences and you must listen to his whole message not just the sound bite.

He gave Glennon glowing praise throughout the presser, noting his gifted arm and in particular, his decision-making. He is essentially saying the starter names himself by virtue of his play. He also said it’s a moot question now because McCown is not back.

I’ll interpret for you. Glennon is the starter until he’s not!

  66. DB55 Says:

Lovie on 620am now. I’ll try to taper my passion.

  67. passthebuc Says:

You do not hear this tripe from the lightening camp. That’s because they have an owner, a GM and a coach all on the same page and all competent.

  68. Bucks_Sam Says:

    Lame.

ESPN is reporting McCown tore his ligament:

McCown will try throwing Monday to see if the pain is manageable. If he is unable to throw, and decides to undergo surgery, he would miss at least six weeks, the source said

Mike Cannon is the guy, make it official give the guy a little extra momentum. Having the coach back you must feel better than hoping a guy with a torn ligament might be able to hold a ball.

    Good job Lovie….

  69. lightningbuc Says:

Funny how the Glennon haters always remind us Glennon “led” the worst offense in the NFL last year. Yet when he “leads” the Bucs to a come from behind, last second victory, they preach that it’s a “team” game. Oh the irony!

  70. buc4lyfe Says:

This side is so full of himself. Mgm your gonna have to wait a little while longer because of his stubbornness. Even people that don’t like Glennon have to admit he played a Damn good game. Folks the only you play mcclown over Glennon is if you’re bucking for the first overall pick. The talent level between the two is close lol but not that close

  71. HawaiianBuc Says:

I would have been absolutely blown away had Lovie said Glennon is his full time starter. McCown was hurt and it’s pretty much a rule (with just a few exceptions) that starters don’t lose their job due to injury. Of course we all know Glennon is the better option, and I can almost guarantee Lovie does too. However, he’s old school, and he brought in McCown to be the starter, and starters don’t lose their job due to an injury. I would suspect that they will be very, very, very cautious with McCown’s finger. Like super cautious. We don’t want to risk permanent damage to it, so McCown can get 100% healthy. He may have to be the emergency QB for the next 12 games, so as not to risk it. You have to be very careful with these serious injuries you know.

  72. Tnew Says:

Ether. Glennon really sucked on that 80 yd drive after half time too. No?

  73. HawaiianBuc Says:

It’s funny how people are getting upset at Lovie over this. If McCown starts in New Orleans, then let’s all go crazy. I’ll even be the ring leader. But until then, just sit back and let the professionals do their job. No way Glennon isn’t starting in the Superdome next week, so everyone just calm down a little. You don’t have to hate on everything, especially after a win. As bad as many of you think Lovie is, I promise you he’s better at coaching football than you.

In the meantime, Im gonna root for my team, QB included.. I dont ride on players jocks… you wanna be a player groupie, go put some glitter on your chest and go hang out in S. Tampa this weekend…

I see the big picture, that we’re 1 back in the division, and theres still life in this team.

…..do you Not watch football?? You bet your shriveled 2 cm c0ck that its a TEAM game! fucc outta here…

  77. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @lightningbuc,

That’s a semi-inaccurate statement. I was a total Schiano guy until year 2. I backed him up with everything he did, and I ignored a lot of his late game failures. However, in year 2, there were too many errors to hide. It was a disaster. He handled every situation (on the field and off the field) as poorly as it could possibly be handled. Now I’m not saying it was all his fault (because it wasn’t), but it was the amateur way he handled everything. The team quit on him, which is the last straw. If the team has quit on a coach, it’s over. I don’t care if Vince Lombardi is coaching.

But yes, Schiano knows way more about football than me. But Lovie has a long history in the NFL. He’s been there, he’s done that. He’s proven. He’s a better coach than Schiano, no matter how you want to try to spin things the other way. Let’s revisit the conversation after year 2 and see where we are. I am 100% convinced we’ll be in better shape.

  78. WalkdaPlank Says:

If Lovie puts McCown in over Glennon I am convinced he doesn’t want to win. He was probably like “Aw shoot, ‘ol McCown got a banged up thumb, we might actually win this one.”

Two of Joe’s favorite statements when his obsession of Johnny Clipboard dominated this site were:

    “QB’s lead teams”

“Glennon led the Bucs offense to last in the league”

Since Johnny Clipboard is riding the pine in Cleveland and throwing birds and the Redskins, and McCown failed, Joe has now joined the MGM. But anti-Glennon fans are now saying that Sunday’s win was a team win and Glennon did not lead them, yet they always brought up Joe’s statement of Glennon “leading” the Bucs to the worst offense when pining for a QB.

Of course it is a team game, but it’s just ironic as lightningbuc said.

  82. Zam Says:

The 50% completion percentage troubles me some. They won a very exciting game, but it’s not like they dominated.

Lovie would be foolish to put McCown back in (ever). MG has the hot hand if nothing else, and he showed he was very good at the medium range slants and crosses that Johnny Football is so horrible at. Those are the most important passes to be able to make. So that’s a big step forward.

Mikey will be tested hard if future defenses take that away. People like the way he throws the ball, but I can’t say I do and accuracy is going to be a big hurdle that he’ll have to prove to me still. FWIW Freeman never could.

It doesn’t help much to have tall physical receivers unless the QB can put the pass on a dime. Over the middle slants and that deep post are most forgiving when it comes to accuracy.

Funny how a 3 point win is miles away from a 3 point loss.

  83. lightningbuc Says:

    @WalkdaPlank,

Thank You! I defer to you for a more diplomatic approach and explanation!

  84. james west Says:

glennon is the only QB in the last two seasons to win a game for tampa when it counts, L&L should look at everything, the past months game film, stats, turnovers and intangibles, what I mean is how the team responds with mike under center. and I mean the whole team offense and defense. because it certainly looks to me like the offense has a fire in them when glennon is playing. and the defense also responded with a certain resolve, as if there was actually a chance to win the game late with this QB. thus making two big stops. I have not seen this with MCcown, on offense nor defense. in my opinion, the intangibles speak volumes, and quietly the players have already decided to whose leadership they BELIEVE and FOLLOW!!!!! so if I was coach, I would quietly LISTEN!!!!!!!!!

  85. Bryan Says:

He threw possibilities. Of all the things you can say about Glennon on Sunday, it comes back to that. He threw for 245 yards in the second half, the fourth-best half a Bucs quarterback has ever had. His last pass came with seven seconds to go, and just like that, Glennon had thrown for 300 yards and the Bucs were in the victory column.

    From Gary Shelton’s article today

“He threw for 245 yards in the second half, the fourth-best half a Bucs quarterback has ever had.”

    I’ve been here for a while…

As far as the things Joe’s said “Glennon led the Bucs offense to last in the league”…. like I said, I see the big picture… Joe says things to get viewers riled up… keep us clicking… and the MGM took the bait… thing is, Joe created the MGM… gave birth to this entity. Hell, Joe’s not the General of the MGM, he’s the Creator of the MGM… then gave them Free Will to take over this website…

But I admit, at this point I’m cautiously optimistic about Glennon… He got better as the game went on yesterday, which is something he never did last year. So I personally want to see him continue this progression into the next few games… Whatever it takes to keep this team in it!

  87. NJBucsFan Says:

Locks just seems like a suborned, arrogant pri*k when it comes this whole QB thing. He did it in Chicago and is doing it here.

Funny Joe is the God of the MGM.

I really think you are right about, “Joe says things to get viewers riled up… keep us clicking.” I wrote this to Joe once and he claimed it was ridiculous. I think your right. I think the little puppie’s nonsense is for the same reason.

Well I think the Joes just have fun with it… Where THAT dude takes it to heart, just like those MGM extremestists, and they let their emotions carry them away…

As nothing more than a BUCS fan, I just want to see those two cancel each other out so we can focus on the TEAM! Focus on the fact that we’re just 1 win back in this division!

“You know the haters are right ……Glennon will never be a Manning, Brady, Bree’s or Rodgers! What he can be though is a Flacco type guy with a strong arm and a tendency not to turn the ball over.”

Flacco. From what I gathered from looking around Flacco is exactly who a few scouts compared him too prior to the draft.

  91. Buccfan37 Says:

I don’t agree that Joe created the MGM. He may have created the naming ending in the word mob. Glennon fans have been around since MG came to the Bucs, on the other side his detractors use the word mob to ridicule those who support him.

  92. BirdDoggers Says:

Lovie can’t bring himself to make a good decision for the offense. He’s always been that way. Not surprised at all that he won’t commit to the better player.

  93. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @lightningbuc,

I’m sure you do brother! I think 99% of us on this site want that. There are a few that would rather be right than have the Bucs win, but I know you’re not one of them. You’re hardcore. I respect that.

  94. HawaiianBuc Says:

Glennon is the starter the rest of the year in my opinion. Aside from pulling a McCown, no way should he be benched. That being said, I’m still tempering my expectations. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in the 20-something years of me being a Bucs fan, it’s that guys aren’t always what we think they are. Even Bruce Gradkowski gave us a few games that showed up some promise. Chris Simms looked like the man for a few weeks. J-Freeman looked like the real deal too at times. Fact is, we’ve never had a franchise QB since Doug Williams, and I’m too damn young to remember him playing for the Bucs. Things tend to go bad for us at the QB position for one reason or another, so I’m just not going to proclaim him the next great QB. Too many years of being scarred by false promise will do that to you.

  95. Aubpierce Says:

AS of right now we have one QB that folds under pressure and one that does not.Things may change, but right now there is only one choice,Glennon.

  96. gotbbucs Says:

Theres no need to name him the starter. The less the opposition knows the better. Glennon is the starter, everybody inside the organization knows that.

    —————————

Technically Joe did create the MGM. But in all honesty we know it was invented to be condescending so he could ridicule the few who actually liked Glennon and wanted to give the kid a shot. Joe uses the “I said hes a strong back up” all off season to also ridicule him. Theres a reason I coined the phrase Mike “Winnin With NO Chance” Glennon. Joe is the one who said he has NO chance to be our franchise QB or anything else. Personally its rather funny that he now calls himself “the general” of the MGM after all he said this off season. But, hey no complaints here. Glad to have ya.

    Long live the MGM!

  101. SteveK Says:

    What a great thread.

Between the usual suspects; Buc1987, lightningbuc, and other posters; Zam, walkadaplank and the ether. This is good.

I became a Mike Glennon fan after Freeman’s first series last year. I could just see that he was complete and utter toast. He had a good year in 2010, I thought he’d be a good QB. Come 2011, the Bucs and Freeman went to England, got schlobberknocked by the Pats, and Freeman never came home.

The 4 INT games were inexcusable too. I grew tired of his gig because of his lapses in concentration, and inability to audible. Nothing personal, as NFL QBs must have the ability to audible/kill plays.

Because of Freeman’s 2013 contribution, games 1-3, we had the “worst ranked offense in the NFL”. Remove Freeman’s sh!t performances and we are not last ranked.

Who else is looking forward to JBF radio tomorrow? I sure am. Although, I act surprised to hear B!g Dawwwg rip Glennon, it’s his flawed perception of evaluation. The butthurtedness of Freeman Gate has left him no choice but to hate.

I hope Hlennon pans out, because he is on my team and “fans” doubted him because he is a goofy looking mofo. Napoleon can ball. We are fortunate to have Mike Glennon on this team. The kid wants to get better more than anything, and after the last starter named “Josh”, it’s great see.

McCown is the perfect mentor for Glennon. We are lucky to have him.

  102. SteveK Says:

No need to roast Joe. His columns are the best Buc news out there. No one is perfect, lots of fans were stuck on Freeman, it happens. While 2013 was a great season, he never made it count. He didn’t get paid going into his contract year, and cracked under pressure. It’s all good, winnin’ with Glennon, he ain’t scared.

Joe lined the “MGM” term, but he knows Glennon is getting better. He is accepting it and posting none goofy pics of Glennon.

  103. Owlykat Says:

As Glennon’s number one critic, I commend him for finally finding the invaluable confidence not to whimp out at the end. Confidence is the key to success and hopefully he has finally overcome his lost nerves for ending games and is to be praised for his first come from behind win! I understand Lovie’s reluctance because Glennon was gosh awful in the goal line 4 misses that happened before the final try. But if Glennon shows this new confidence is no fluke, don’t worry, he will be the starter!

  104. phil Says:

It’s because Lovie is a moron. Glennon didn’t make the dumb mistakes like McCown did which is why we won the game along with the Steelers being the ones who made the dumb mistakes. When you cut the best player on your team (Revis) you are not very bright.

  105. Hawk Says:

Just to be accurate, this was Glennon’s third come from behind win. If you wish to act like you are pointing out some positive aspect of Glennon’s game , you could, at least, be factual. Joe does the criticism-wrapped-in-a-compliment so much better. Leave it to the professionals.
