Feeling Bad For Logan Mankins

“Hey Bill, what did I do to you for you to send me to NFL hell?”

In the span of a few weeks, longtime All-Pro guard Logan Mankins played for a jewel franchise of the NFL and then awakened one morning and found himself in the NFL dump.

It is hard to describe the Bucs right now as anything but a wayward franchise.

Two seasons in a row fans are in full-blown draft mode and it isn’t even Sept. 20. For the second friggin’ year in a row!

After getting curb-stomped last night by the Dixie Chicks, there is little question who the worst team in the NFL is. Yep. Your Tampa Bay Buccaneers, buddy.

Joe feels for Mankins. He has to be wondering what he did to p!ss off Bill Belicheat so badly that he went from an annual Super Bowl contender to a team that more often than not has contended for a top-five draft pick much less a playoff berth.

Joe has to be guessing Mankins, himself, may again be trade bait to a contender so the Bucs can get draft picks. After watching last night’s pathetic effort, the Bucs simply need to clean house and stock up on draft picks.

Stand-up-guy Mankins talked to Joe after the game. He remains positive in the face of a horrific night.

“It was just bad all the way around,” Mankins said of the clobbering by the Falcons. “I don’t know. Just nothing went right today. I don’t know how to explain it. I guess I have to watch the film. That will tell a lot.

“Every player’s went through a bad loss. It’s how you respond and the work you put in the next week, and how you respond to that next game. It’s gonna tell a lot about us what we do from here. My feeling is we’re going to fight back. So I hope that’s what we do.”

Mankins has had to put up with this for 3 games. I’ve had to put up with this for over 30 years.

Which one of us should you be feeling sorry for?

  2. RealityCheck Says:

Hey Joe…I’d be really interested to get your take on what current starters will still be with this team next year?

  3. Jim Says:

Joe, I hate the poor play of the Bucs as much as you do. But you must admit, the “Stinkaneers” sure do increase the numbers of comments on your site. Keep up the good work on site. It is the only positive thing about this season.

  4. CC Says:

    Meh….perfectly said.

  5. SalB Says:

@meh plus he is a millionaire

  6. lightningbuc Says:

Yeah, after he got off the charter flight last night, he got in his mercedes and went home to his mansion. Good for him too – but I don’t “feel” for him.

  7. robert9 Says:

why feel bad for him. he was given the opportunity to stay in NE at a lesser rate.

I don’t feel bad for someone making millions that made their own decisions. He should have known this would happen.

he’ll be injured soon enough though and the pain will ease.

  8. robert9 Says:

his job will get easier now that glennon is the starter and get the ball out quick. last night, down 56-0 3rd qtr was no fair shot for glennon.

let him start the game before mcclown breaks the teams spirit once again.

  9. Buccfan37 Says:

Lovie must of been just thinking of some choice cuss words to chew out the Bucs and their performance. But alas, he fell silent again.

  10. DallasBuc Says:

I bet he now wishes he had restructured his contract to stay in NE. Should fire his agent!

  11. CB Buc Says:

Trade him? He’s not going anywhere.
    (a) big salary for a guard (b) there won’t be anyone with that kind of cap room mid-season (c) he is the best OL we have.

He made his choic: to play for money instead of championships. He has to live with that decision

  12. Architek Says:

    Rich athlete who cares!!!

  13. Barry Says:

    He’s a Pro. Glad he’s here.

  14. ShutTheBucUp Says:

I don’t feel bad for him at all. I don’t feel bad for anyone on the team. The results are a product of their play. If you want to feel bad for someone, feel bad for the people that support this half-assed organization. People who spend their hard earned money on games and Bucs gear. Just to get embarassed season after season. Sell the team to someone who wants to win.

  15. crazy Says:

Bet he wishes he’d restructured that contract.

  16. Thebucssuck14 Says:

@meh says. You got it right!!

  17. NewTampaChris Says:

Actually, that would be a great question to ask Mankins at some point. “Was the difference in money worth moving to a shitheap franchise?” Just don’t ask him on payday.

  18. DB55 Says:

    @joe

I made this exact comment last night. I feel bad for mankins. Dude goes for hanging w Brady in Btown where they are gods to this. Talk about a blow to your ego. I bet he’s up at night praying like Job. God why have you forsaken me.

  19. Dean Says:

Final score: Alabama Falcons 56, Slippery Rock Buccaneers 14. It looked that bad, guys.
Wishing doesn’t make it so….Four can’t get to any QB. So, rush 5 or 6 or 8 or 12 (could a penalty be worse than this crap?)
Zone coverage vs actually knocking the crap out of a receiver at the line and running WITH him and covering him down the field? Might even get your hands on a ball……what a great idea.

  20. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

We are getting outcoached so badly, we finally quit playing.

  21. D-Rome Says:

This game was infuriating to watch. If this keeps up most Bucs fans are going to go from being infuriated to being apathetic.

I hate to sound like one of the fans you hear on radio when it comes to season tickets but I strongly considered buying season tickets for this season because of the Lovie hire and all the changes. I decided to wait and maybe purchase them for next year. Sorry, I’m keeping my money until I see a dramatic turnaround. There’s still plenty of season left for the Bucs to turn things around to a respectable level. By respectable level I mean just be freaking competitive and give yourselves a chance to win. I didn’t think it was possible for the Bucs to regress from Greg Schiano but clearly they have.

  22. Mike10 Says:

Haha funny bc it’s true – unfortunately we’re talking about my favorite team.

This is just starting to hurt – a decade + of poop football. @Joe, can we start a pole of the most reasonable team to follow until this franchise gets its head outta its arse – I don’t see this getting better for a while and I’m not living forever.

  23. Mike10 Says:

    poll

  24. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    You know what?

    Adversity builds character.

Among the players, there will be those that get it in their heads that this isn’t good enough, and they will become determined to turn things around.

The same was Sapp, Brooks and Lynch got together and decided to change things.

It will come. We don’t need a new head coach. We need the players to step up. We need our OC calling plays. And we need Lovie Smith to ride Fraziers tail.

  25. Jeagan1999 Says:

I saw 3, maybe 4 guys really trying last night…that’s all….3 or 4 guys. Everyone else checked out, gave up, surrendered or just plain QUIT. What is going on with this team? 3 games into a new season and a new regime, everyone should be pumped, excited, trying to impress! There is a cancer on this team, I don’t know exactly where it comes from ( Coaching, play calling, schemes, lack of talent, player discontent, etc… All of the above, maybe?), but unless this cancer is quickly identified and addressed, things could get even worse (hard to contemplate that after the stinker of a game we saw last night). The Glazers need to bring someone with a strong football background in to investigate and make recommendations on what needs to be changed…I don’t know that Lovie Smith can be trusted to find the source of the issues and make the necessary changes.

  26. ruggyup Says:

Joe says: “Bucs simply need to clean house and stock up on draft picks:. Really if that is the best of Dale Mabry thinking we’re in the dumpster for a long time. On the other side, it would be worth making a short term contract with Bill Polian to come in and make an in-depth analysis of the whole sorry mess from top to bottom. Of course, no one would pay attention so WTF.

“…can we start a poll of the most reasonable team to follow…”

Ahhh, the battle cry of the bandwagon fan. I hate to use the term “True Fan”, but it applies. A true fan sticks with his team thru thick and thin. If you seriously want to go find another team than do it.

Just like Lovie Smith will weed out the team, adversity will weed out the fan base. Only the strong will remain.

  28. Bucnjim Says:

Even fans who have never played organized sports could tell they all quit in the first quarter. Sad to see our hand picked QB and our all pro WR throw in the flag and basically sit on the bench feeling sorry for themselves. At least McCoy tried to rally the D. Once McCown throw the INT for a TD he was done. Couldn’t wait to get off the field! SAD!

  29. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Jeagan1999 Says
“There is a cancer on this team…”

    That’s actually a good analogy.

Just like doctors go in to remove a cancer, sometimes they miss some and have to go in again. All the turnover Lovie and Licht did is like the Doctor going in there.

    Obviously, something remains.

I do not blame the young players. They need to learn how to win, and it all starts in their minds. I DO blame the veterans. They should be setting examples for the young players to draw from.

  30. 911bucs Says:

What is watching the films going to do? All the players are saying this. Didnt they watch the films the last two games? Apparently not because they
    didn’t fix their problems.

Mankins has had to put up with this for 3 games. I’ve had to put up with this for over 30 years.

Which one of us should you be feeling sorry for?
    ———————————–

I’ve got a couple years on you, but Mankins has six or seven million reasons not to be too upset by it… he’s getting paid. The rest of us have to PAY for this crap. How I managed not to turn off the television still puzzles me.

I just wish it was that easy, bro. I wish I could follow another team. Just about any team would be an upgrade to this shiite show.

  33. Snook Says:

“there is little question who the worst team in the NFL is. Yep. Your Tampa Bay Buccaneers, buddy.”

That’s for damn sure. Now, let’s do it right and get the 0-16 mark we’ll need for the #1 pick. Tired of crappy seasons and not getting the guy we really need.

  34. Mike10 Says:

    @Bonzai –
Ok – sure – that’s easy to say!
But I know about as much about this team’s recent history as anyone on this site. I’ve followed them from the high (in a galaxy far far away) to the all too familiar lows. I’ve thrown away so much $ on club seats to watch a garbage product – and yes I say throw away intentionally because it’s not a Glazier charity fund I am obliged to pay into or because I feel it’s an obligation to sit in the stands and rah rah for they players that get paid more than I’ll see in a lifetime and have less of a desire to be there than I do. I paid good money when the Glaziers trotted out that pathetic and CHEAP product during the Raheem era/error – getting fed the bs excuse we were ‘building through the draft’. I wake up today and first thing I do after that embarrassment last night is put on am radio, listen to the synopsis, pour coffee into my Bucs mug, and trot off to catch crap from my grad school classmates up here in Saints territory because they’re the team that represents me because they KNOW how big of a fan I am. And I know more about their team, bc they’re in my division, than they do! I follow their team streams in the offseason so I know more about what the Bucs need to do.

So no my man, fair weather is an insult – as much so as the product that’s been trotted out onto the field every year since we won the super bowl. We’ve had no leadership, had garbage drafts, have made horrible offseason transactions, and have too many dam coaching changes, throw too much money at unproven talent, gave away (GAVE AWAY) a first rd pick for a rental player – that was a CB getting paid QB $ when you didn’t even have a QB, etc, etc.

Honestly, it’s been so bad for so long, and it is not getting better anytime soon. So if you want to call me a 20 year+ bandwaggoner haha so be it…. I just have better $hit to do w my time than to allow the Bucs to feel like year in, year out it’s sufficient to BeLOW! We’ve all been too loyal too long..

And for the record, you know anyone on this site is committed to the cause… hopefully Jay or L+L take a peek on here and take me seriously

  35. Fort Myers Dave Says:

Mankins definitely went from the penthouse to the basement but he is still earning the $$$. I’ve been having to cringe through embarrassing losses since ’76 and this loss last night was really reminiscent of some of those real bad losses of the Sombrero days, circa 1985-1986 under 4-28 Leeman Bennett. At least us Buc fans had the 2002 season to cherish but it is so frustrating to see other franchises have the ability to keep ahead of the curve like the Pats or Packers or at least be a 0.500 team when they are rebuilding like the Steelers in a down year; this franchise has been bad since Malcolm G had the stroke and the kids went all in with Man U and went cheap at One Buc Place with the players and coaching staff hires after Gruden got canned. Man it is tough being a Bucs fan today after that embarrassing loss on National TV. Hey Glazers: hold someone accountable for the train wreck!

  36. Brent Says:

Logan mankins sorry for why? He has 2-3 Super Bowl rings and a ton of respect. In a couple years he’ll be playing golf all day. Only feel sorry for fans! 5 years of sucking.

  37. OB Says:

    Joe

Actually his agent should get a raise, he plays less offensive series each time we have the ball, and we don’t keep it that long plus no playoff games, so he should play a few more years than if he stayed at NE.

I figure that since we were so out coached in offense, defense, and special teams, the charter plane was probaly Jet Blue.

As I believe the Tampa Bay Times stated the turning point in the game came when the introduction video ended.

Joe do you think they are going to release anyone and sign some new troopers?

  38. BoJim Says:

    Mike10,

Maybe you should have reworded your first post.

  39. Gt40bear Says:

If I were Mankins, I’d mail a dead fish to Bellicheat and leave a bloody horse head in his bed!

  40. Rrsrq Says:

Did Anthony Collins looked pissed again last night, did he make the flight back.

  41. Paul Says:

I’m pretty sure I saw him get pancaked by a LB in that game.

  42. SgtMajor Says:

In the corporate world CEO’s are fired for putting out products like the one the Bucs put out every week. Bad products do not sell. Lovie and Light say they have a plan and that they must stick to it. They never said that the plan included a good product on the field. These simple facts are what scams are made of. They want us to believe that what everyone saw last night was an abberration. It really wasn’t the Bucs out there but a figment of your imagination. The same premise that GM is going to use for all it’s recalls. Coming soon will be the Bucs big sale of swamp land. Be sure not to miss it.

  43. Jaycee Says:

I heard a lot of NFL players could care less if they won; they just want to get paid – on and off the field.
