Bucs rookie WR Mike Evans talked about getting back on the practice field today after nursing a sore hamstring of late.

Aside from hobbled guard Carl Nicks, the two guys Bucs fans are sweating over for not practicing are wide receivers Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans; both have tender hamstrings.

But Jackson and Evans returned to the field today to begin the Bucs’ three-day minicamp, albeit with limited practice time as not to blow up their hamstrings again.

For the first time since rookie minicamp, Evans did some drills full blast and came away not just happy, but geeked for what may be for the Bucs this fall.

[The hamstring] “feels good,” Evans said. “I just got back [on the field] today. It’s good. Felt normal. I got out here today and got some individual work in. Ran full speed and for the most part, felt good.

“I think my legs are strong enough now [to go through normal drills]. So, that’s up to the training staff. To me, it is very important [to practice]. I just wanted to get out here and just run around. play the sport I love to play.”

Evans noted he has seen the entire Jeff Tedford playbook and learning it is calculus-like.

“We went over the whole playbook starting with rookie minicamp until now,” Evans said. “It is a very complex offense. It is very difficult. I’m just trying to get the hang of it. I’m doing a lot of studying at night.”

Evans noted that his patience was very much tested having to stand on the sidelines watching his teammates practice.

“I have been telling everybody how mad I am [at being sidelined] and they can tell it in my face,” Evans said. “The season is not until September and I am trying to understand that. I will be competing in training camp.”

Having been able to practice with Vincent Jackson today, albeit briefly, Evans’ eyes were opened as to what could be.

“We both walked through together and I was like, ‘Man, we’ve got some height on us. We can do some damage,’” Evans said. “It is going to be fun.”

As far as what he plans to do after this week? Well, Evans said Texas can wait.

“I am going to work out with Josh [McCown] over the summer,” Evans said. “I’m going to try to get that connection with him and just get back in shape and lose some weight. Try to get in the best shape ever.”

    Yes

I’m excited for the McCown to Evans connection. Hope they get great chemistry. In other news Nicks had a baby 2 weeks ago, during OTAs. A good reason to miss them, no?

When I hear that Tedfords offense is “calculus-like” – part of me says not to expect too much from Mike Evans this year, even though he has some amazing talent, most of it was put on display salvaging numerous broken plays – and his sticky enormous hands, coupled to his amazing wing span, made Manzeil look downright accurate…but because that style of play may not have been very disciplined about route running/route trees, etc., he may have a steep learning curve about how to play WR in the NFL.

Then another part of me argues that due to the Swiss cheese-like offensive line, and the mobility of Josh McCown sorta resembling the his college offense may resemble what the Bucs plan to run… his physical attributes that made him stand out in college may be the very reason he’s here…

Perhaps they’ll keep ol’ Napolean Dynamite around another year afterall? I guess we’ll know for sure if we either acquire some offensive linemen in FA – or target an LOT and G in the upper reaches of next years draft….

That’s what I want to hear! Go get you some Mike! You and VJ need to own that field.

White Tiger, I have a feeling that Josh McCown will not allow Mike Evans to become lost within the offense over the summer. He will be dragged along kicking and screaming if necessary.

We just had to release a young dentist who said all the right things. However her actions never matched her words.

Let’s hope that Evans is the real deal and not just talk. As far as his talk however the dude says all the right things. He seems to get it and if his actions match his words he’s going to be a real load for DB’s around the league.

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO……..Damn I cant wait holy crap man

And remember Alshon was Mccowns favorite target last year. Although it was his second year in the league it was a first year offense. I see Evans being an exception to the rookie rule ….unless were hitting te all day which I dont see

  9. pick6 Says:

doesn’t sound like the sort of offense where we should expect to send rookies to the pro bowl. then again, the tedford design doesn’t seem to be about too much emphasis on any one guy touching the ball. i think evans and ASJ will have some packages where they’re supposed to go to one spot on the field and go up high, rather than making a ton of and being heavily relied upon. the veterans will have to be the truly dynamic ones in 2014 unless we have some really fast learners

IMO, there’s no better person for ME13 to be training with this summer than JM12.
-Wanna bet that it was JM12 who first proposed the idea? I would.

Our big Tight Ends will get involved too. This will probably be the best offensive scheme we seen in Tampa. Go Bucs!

    Wow! Congrats Carl!
But, he’s missed two years over a toe
I can’t imagine how long he’ll have to rehab over this!!

    For Carl-{shutter!}??

  19. P'cola Buc Says:

Carl Nicks a new father?….Congrats…. But does this qualify him for paternity leave???

  20. Jim Walker Says:

Lets hope Nicks puts his best foot forward. I have always been head over heels for this guy. Put I must put my foot down and say if I were in his shoes I would stay on my toes. Because if he is all feet next season you can expect other players to be stepping on his toes.

He might shoot himself in the foot if put his foot in his mouth by saying he his kicking up his heels fishing. He need to concentrate on football and keep his toes on the line.

  21. Jim Walker Says:

We all know Nick’s Achilles heel. He just needs to get his foot in the door and begin practicing. Hopefully then he’ll be footloose and fancy free. I know we have all been swept off our feet by Lovie Smith, and I think Nicks feels the same way. But until football starts I guess were all just waiting for the other shoe to drop.
