Draymond Green To Mike Evans: You’re “Too Emotional”

June 19th, 2018

The Bucs threw $55 million guaranteed at Mike Evans this winter — on top of the fat rookie deal he signed in 2014.

So what extravagant purchases did Evans make with his new round of loot?

Joe’s got answers, by way of Evans himself during his recent apperance on the I Am Rapaport Stereo Podcast.

No, Evans didn’t run out and by a beach house or fancy cars, or join a private jet or yacht club, or much of anything. The tally was three Rolex watches (two as gifts, one for him) and courtside NBA finals tickets for one game, plus a single-game suite at another NBA game for family and close friends.

“Sometimes, you know, it’s mind-blowing,” Evans said. “Just the security that I have for my family is what I get excited about. And, you know, I get to help other people.

“It is cool that I get to buy NBA Finals tickets courtside. I’m not really like a big spender like that. I don’t know; it’s surreal at times. I’m not a flashy guy, like money doesn’t really define me. I love having money, obviously, don’t get it twisted. But money doesn’t define me. I just want to win, have a long career, and enjoy it while I can. I’m playing against the best in the world. I’m one of the best in the world. I just want to be the best receiver I can be, the best husband, father, and just enjoy the ride while I can because life’s short, man.”

Evans added that attending the NBA Finals and sitting behind the Golden State Warriors bench was a true learning experience, watching them interact after winning the series, and then talking to several players himself.

“It was cool to like be around other pro athletes winning a championships and being the best in the world,” Evans said.

A highlight for Evans was Draymond Green of the Warriors telling him he is “too emotional.”

It’s unclear whether Green was talking about how Evans acts as a basketball fan, or about how he’s known for a few high-profile personal fouls in his NFL career. One of those got Evans suspended for one game last season.

Wow! If that ain’t the pot calling the kettle black.

  2. webster Says:

    Hello pot, im kettle

  3. Bradentonbuc Says:

Yeah Draymonds got a lot of advice but I’d like to see how emotional he would get playing on a team sans Curry/Thompson/Durant.
Mike is the man and I am so glad we retained him. It would be criminal if we didn’t. He is emotional but this team is super young, I feel that VJax really guided Evans into the professional he is

  4. The Buc Realist Says:

We have to admit that for the most part, ME13 calmed down and had his emotions in check when it came for the begging for Offensive pass interference every play!!!!! I know he worked on it and pretty much cleaned it up!!!!!!!

Once these guys, start to get the silent killer attitude, that instead of begging refs and instead score 2 touchdowns in the first half will really help the offensive attitude!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep fixing the “real” problems!!!!! The roster!!!!!!

  5. Waterboy Says:

Lol @ATLBuc that was the first thing that popped into my mind when reading the headline.

Mike Evans seems like such a good genuine dude. Off the field never have 2 worry about this guy. On the field he has the skills 2 match. Hes a perfect player 2 represent tampa. Were extremely lucky to have him. 1 of the only good things lovie did while he was here. I used 2 day Mike was Calvin Johnson 2.0 he doesn’t have the speed 2 be that. But he actually reminds me of a guy that played in Florida also…Jimmy smith

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Looks like Mike Evans won’t pull a Mike Tyson with his money…..so many NFL players (Sapp) squander fortunes with very bad decisions. Players make good money but only for a limited time and need to plan for their financial future.

As for emotions….I’ll take the bad with the good with Evans….he is truly a great receiver.

Countless times…time after time, defenders are hanging all over him and grabbing his arms etc……they have to….he is impossible to defend…..

  8. Kevin Nieto Says:

Everything I read and learn about this kid makes me respect him more. He’s a good young man with a brilliant career ahead of him.

  9. 813bucboi Says:

screw what draymond says mike…..he should be the last person talking about emotions….his emotions cost his team a championship when he was suspended….love the emotions you display on the field…..I wish some other folks(and players) at OBP had the same fiery competitive nature….cough cough dirk and smitty….

    #NOEXCSESIN2018!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES….GO BUCS!!!!

You’re way over thinking this. You think Evans didn’t like hearing from someone from the freaking Golden State Warriors? Probably made his whole offseason. Plus I am Rappaport is a hilarious pdcast, and Evans was probably joking about the irony of it with Michael Rappaort. No more no less..

  11. johnnybuc Says:

draymond green calling mike evans too emotional ?? the guy who leads the nba in technical fouls every single year? yeah he’s the guy mike needs to be taking advice from when it comes to controlling emotions …

  12. BringBucsBack Says:

I wish Mike could regularly see Julio Jones practice. I’m sure he watches him in games. I wish Mike gave it his all every second, the way JJ does. I know Mike works hard, he (&other Bucs) just seems to behave with a little bit of contentment, After all he is outstanding! I believe he can be better, still!

However, Mike seems like a good guy and great talent. I would rather have him than defend against him!

  13. joestang Says:

you can’t tell me that mike evans isn’t in the top 100. i would take him all day long.

Mike is Mike! His emotions is how he started playing.Mike’s life was drenched with emotions including the death of his father by his uncle. So yes HE IS EMOTIONAL! LET HIM BE!!!!

  17. Anonymous Says:

A guy who takes as many cheap shots as Draymond Green has no room to criticize anyone.

Look 813bottomboi – you sound like a little twat, that’s number one. Number two – it’s called perspective, and it’s delusional fans like you that is making way more of situation than there is. Draymond Green and Michael Rappaport were laughing about it. It’s a comedy podcast. Irony. Look it up in the dictionary, study it. Learn it. Use it in a sentence.
