Overblowing Gerald McCoy’s Comments

October 12th, 2017

GMC talks anthem

So Gerald McCoy was talking on Adam Schefter’s podcast Tuesday about the potential new rule requiring NFL players to stand for the national anthem.

Man, what a life of its own that took, apparently because McCoy chose to use the word “uproar” when describing how players would react to the news. ESPN, Breitbart and Sports Illustrated all went bananas, among others.

Joe wasn’t going to write about it until actually hearing the full podcast.

So Joe listened and, not surprisingly, McCoy certainly wasn’t using the word “uproar” under one of its definitions, “violent disturbance.” McCoy was simply saying players would speak out loudly but peacefully if the league rule changed.

Right now, per league rules, players are told they should stand, not that they must.

McCoy also explained that he’d never be a guy who sat for the anthem and he uses that time to reflect on servicemen and their extreme sacrifices that allow him to play football. McCoy explained that he wouldn’t sign up for the military, and that fact enhances his respect and appreciation for servicemen, who McCoy believes are a big part of the anthem’s meaning.

Somehow, the three networks Joe mentioned above left that out of their discussions.

Unfortunately, McCoy said it’s a player’s “constitutional right we have” to stand or sit during the anthem and it won’t be a good thing if the league takes that away. Obviously, he’s 100 percent correct. Americans have a right to stand (unless the fasten seat belt light is on).

But it was misleading commentary from McCoy, since employers have clear rights to have a reasonable code of conduct for employees at work. And requiring a healthy player to stand for the national anthem while on the field certainly is reasonable.

McCoy is getting skewered on radio and in various media for allegedly being ignorant of the constitution. Joe doesn’t see it that way at all. McCoy just seems confused by what an employer is entitled to demand.

This whole article and the blow up from his words are the epitome of America 2107. May God have mercy on our great country!!

  2. Buc believer Says:

Another article that defends the indefensible. The bias is showing.
??? Seems your reading something that is not here. –Joe

  3. 813bucboi Says:

the nfl cant make the players do anything….try all they want but they’ll lose and are currently losing this battle now….

all of this could be avoided if law makers and government officials agree that things need to change and officers need to be trained better and held more accountable for their actions….

but its cool….billionaires will continue to lose money which will force them to put pressure of those people at the top to make change….its coming…just be patient…the players have learned that if they stick together, they(nfl) cant blackball everyone….they cant release over 70% of the players in the league….GO BUCS!!!!

  4. DB55 Says:

    McCoy is growing on me.

Never understood the whole “try protesting at work” argument, like have you ever heard of unions and picket lines?

  5. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

    Racist bigots win again!

  6. ClodHopper Says:

I almost hope this whole things kills the NFL. Then we’ll see how 70% of the league lives without whitey’s money!!

  7. Bucsfanman Says:

I really wish this conversation would go away. He was asked his opinion and gave it. Now he has to listen to the mouth-breathers berate him despite his stance being clearly defined in this interview as well as his previous interview on the subject.
Changing the league’s code of conduct mid-season seems reactionary and completely unnecessary. Besides, I’m pretty sure that the player’s union would want some say in any changes prior to passing. Change it in the off-season, that makes perfect sense. Employers have EVERY right to demand certain conduct from their employees, Constitution or not. Yes, you have rights, the right not to be employed by the NFL if you disobey their rules.
Football is my respite from the day-to-day grind. I’m sick of people criticizing players actions and I’m sick of the media sticking cameras in these guys faces during the anthem. Aren’t they supposed to be facing the flag, honoring our country? Where’s the furor over that? There is soooo much hypocrisy with this subject.
This is EXHIBIT ‘A’ as to why people despise the media. Has the media asked why the DOD feels it necessary to pay a private corporation, the NFL, your tax dollars for these supposed displays of patriotism? That’s right they PAY the NFL to put on this show!
    Just play some G.D. football!!!

  8. Bobby M. Says:

To be frank, so far the reasons for kneeling listed by the players are: police brutality, inequality, supporting Colin Kaepernick, protesting Trump, and now that its there constitutional right. In nearly a year of all this nonsense, the players have yet to name a specific purpose, law, or organization that they wish folks to voice their opinions to. NOT ONE PETITION has even been produced for fans to assist in their efforts…NOT A SINGLE CALL TO ACTION has been mentioned. Nobody can even make sense of how to help, what the purpose is or what the end goal of all this is. The players themselves cant even tell you consistently why they are kneeling. They could have rallied around police brutality seeing how more whites are killed by cops then blacks….that’s an issue we could all say needs improvement for the masses…BUT they chose instead to make it a race issue….then a slap at patriotism….then a middle finger to the president….and now a power play between owners egos and players egos. The smart play here is to get back to playing football, unify your fan base, then announce a well coordinated joint effort to address their concerns in a manner that rallies folks around common causes vs divides the fan base by race, patriotism and politics.

  9. DislocatedBucsFan Says:

    @ BucsfanMan

Are you talking about the color guard? Most are from local units either guard or active and many volunteer to do it to watch the free game. Others are apart of the presidents 100. Which is a voluntary assignment for mostly infantrymen.

That’s how it works for the Army at least.

  10. J 2.0 Says:

Just stand for the Anthem. Simple.

It offends 90% of the fans. They took the Redskin to court because the name offended 2% of the fans. NBA, MLB, NHL, all stand for the anthem. What makes the NFL any different.

And I don’t work for a union. I can’t just go speaking my mind at my job or I would lose said job. If I offended 90% of my clients. I would be fired. Plain and simple. If I offended 1 client I would lose my job. This is not a 1st amendment issue.

I am all for the cause. It is a righteous cause that needs to be discussed and corrected. No one can deny this, but the message got lost by the messenger.

There is no other way to spin kneeling. You are disrespecting the flag. Plain and simple. Kap started this by saying he couldn’t respect the flag for this reason. Ratings go down, ticket sales go down, advertising dollars go down, player salaries go down.

  11. LakeLand Says:

This issue is about the 1st Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

WASHINGTON — Democratic lawmakers, First Amendment advocates and broadcast communications experts mobilized against President Donald Trump on Wednesday after he suggested that NBC News’ broadcast license could be revoked following a report detailing his interest in drastically increasing the nation’s nuclear arsenal.

Here’s Trump comment about the 2nd Amendment

U.S. President Donald Trump fiercely defended the right to gun ownership on Friday, telling the National Rifle Association “the eight-year assault on your Second Amendment freedoms has come to a crashing end.”

It’s very clear that we have a ” Hypocrite” for President

He support the NRA and Gun Advocates

But he’s against the NFL players protest

He’s also against the press for reporting the truth about him

    Make America Hate Again

    Donald J Trump

  12. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

Return to pre 2009 where teams were not on the field during the anthem. Problem solved.

  13. dc_bucfan Says:

Stick to football on your site, not politics. comment sections get nasty.

  14. Capt.Tim Says:

Knowing how dishonest the media is,And knowing the kind of man McCoy is, I wanted to hear his words myself first.

While it obvious that McCoy hasnt read the actual NFL policy, Which states players not standing can be fined, suspended, or the Team lose draft picks.

Or doesnt understand that an Employer can absolutely prevent employees from any kind of Protest. Especially if it cost the Employer customers and money

He does show hat he is deeply respectful of both Flag and Country.

While this entire protest rediculious and hypocritical,
I certainly have no problem with what McCoy said.

  15. Mike Johnson Says:

Having served this great country I could not, will not sit for our Anthem. I’ve seen to many good men..White/black/yellow and brown die and suffer severe injuries for america. The question of do they have the right to kneel is a good one. Yes they do..in a public forum. Problem is they are doing it at work where the employer reserves the right to..call the shots. They can do it at a park or puvlic protest. But its up to their employers to say what they can and cannot do. I can guarantee all of you we fif something at work our boss did not like, we not only might face disciplinary action, if its severe? We might be out of the door! Yeap, we got plenty of problems in america. Not standing for ole glory ain’t gonna solve’em. However it does not bother me they don’t stand.BecauseI’m gonna always stand.

  16. Bucsfanman Says:

@Dislocated- Flyovers, Special Forces jumps etc…. Color Guard is an honor and a long-standing tradition.

  17. Chris Says:

This argument is getting so old and tired. Clearly they are not accomplishing anything. No one is even thinking about police brutality, or anything of that nature. What people see is spoiled millionaires disrespecting a sacred symbol of our country. And the whole first amendment, ‘constitutional right’ argument is very unfortunate, as anybody with a lick of sense can see it has nothing to do with either. No government entity is trying to take away your freedoms here. McCoy is smarter than that. I’m surprised he said it.

Like the 49’ers player who said that the VP walking out was ‘what systemic oppression looks like’. Could you make yourself out to be more of an idiot? Is it even possible? But I guess it’s the pack mentality. You observe it on both sides of the political isle. On all sides of the issue too.

  18. The Buc Realist Says:

At least he stands up like a “real” American!!!!!! To show respect and empathy of what other have sacrificed for is to be commended!!!!!!! To protest the anthem and disrespect other is not!!!!! Especially when their protest uses the Flag and the Anthem because they did not like what the sitting President said!!!!! They say that it is not about disrespecting the Flag and Anthem, though when you look, that is exactly what they are doing!!!! Its like if somebody is robbing a bank, and tells you that they are not robbing the bank, but providing for their family!!!!!!!!!! Can not wait until the “King” Roger Goodell lays down the edict of ” need to move past this controversy”!!!!!!!!

Just like the Bucs will against the cardinals this Sunday, It is time for everyone to stand up!!!!!!!!! And where will the sheep be??? Wherever we herd them too!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. bucster Says:

I was going to discuss this with Gerald in person as he wished, but was turned away at the guard shack.

  20. TheBucsAnthem Says:

This is all very simple joe

#1. The media does care about THE FULL TRUTH OF REPORTING THE FULL STORY.

If the NFL sets the rule to stand….and then sets punishment guidelines like fines, suspension of pay…like 25,000 for each offense, and also suspension like 6 games minimum with no pay,………..then I guarantee you they’ll stop it.

The players need to understand just like in any workplace there are standards to abide by.

  21. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

The anthem should not be played before sporting events outside of the Olympics. Teams do not represent a country as a whole, but a city or state o region. The anthem is a paid advertisement by the armed forces. Simply put, it all began as war propaganda. It was even played before movies and stage performances for a time. The anthem is not a measuring stick of patriotism, it’s a theatrical display of national pride. If it hurts your pride to see a kneeler, be thankful you live in America, and simply ignore the peaceful protesters. You can stay home, turn off the tv, or find a safe space to melt, but I’d recommend you stand attention with hand over heart and focus on your own sense of pride while it plays. Otherwise, you’re being hypocritical for not acting as you wish others do.

  22. Locked In Says:

Tired of this whole subject. Waste of time. To protest, I will refuse to comment further.

  23. Bradentonbuc Says:

    Great take Joe

  24. webster Says:

“Real” americans protest whenever the country is not living up to the ideas and dreams it supposedly promote. Anyone who think these players are only knealing due to the buffoon in office cleary missed a whole year ok kneeling. A vice president spending $300,000 to pull a stunt could have sent that money to puerto rico where it could have been useful. Another buffoon. Oh and 90% of the fans are not offended. Stop with your alternative facts.

  25. Bucnjim Says:

Every NFL game is a forum from long before the game starts (entering the stadium) to well after it is over. Seems they could use their popularity by staging the protest outside the stadium and include some fans as well. Of course this may be too much work for them. There are camera’s everywhere so this would be covered for sure. Problem is kneeling during the anthem is very easy and requires no real work on the players part. How many of these guys are staging rallies and doing speeches protesting?

  26. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

The president is an entitled draft dodger, and many Americans can accept it.
Why is it so hard to dismiss a peaceful protest and take pride in the fact that America is a place of free thought and speech?

  27. Nick2 Says:

McCoy was baited into making the comments he did. That being said Gerald should have the intelligence not to say something like that which can be twisted to look like he would be one of the players who would be “blowing up.” Come on Gerald if you want to talk to the media fine but just know when you give completely candid answers even though you are being honest and mean no harm the media will crucify you. Its just the nature of the beast and Gerald should have seen the writing on the wall.

  28. ClodHopper Says:

Kneeling is hate speech and an act of violence. It can NOT be tolerated!!

  29. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“…employers have clear rights to have a reasonable code of conduct for employees at work…”

Except that the NFL has publicly stated the players have that right. If they take the right away now, it will open them to lawsuits, because it is clear they are only doing it because of Media and fan pressure.

  30. ClodHopper Says:

McCoy was absolutely right anyways. I fully expect an uproar. I fully expect an uproar from either side of argument. Not expecting an uproar from whichever side “loses” is being blind to what this country has become. The NFL is in a lose lose situation. So is the country.

  31. DB55 Says:

    Clod

Lol. You too much bro. Haha

  32. bucs_365 Says:

Forced patriotism is authoritarianism… which is what the fascist emperor is all about… wrapping himself in the flag while he violates every norm of decency and democratic government, and defiles the office of president… What started out as a few NFL players demonstrating against racial injustice in a fairly harmless way has been blown up into a larger issue by the assclown in chief… this isn’t making ‘Murica great. Maybe if people were as passionate about racial injustice as they are butthurt over an anthem protest, there wouldn’t be any need for protests. Maybe if we didn’t have a flaming white supremacist POTUS, there would be less to protest… Kinda feeling like the whole country should be protesting until the manbaby megalomaniac resigns.

  33. DBS Says:

Let them go out in the street and protest with the other people. Or are they afraid? The media will follow. They are famous players.

  34. bucsfaninchina Says:

Kneeling is hate speech and an act of violence. It can NOT be tolerated!!

    hahahhaahahhahahhaahahhahahhaahahhahahhaahahhahahhaahah

  35. ClodHopper Says:

    What’s so funny guys?

Speech being called an act of violence is page one on the liberal talking point book. It’s two paragraphs down from “your racist!!” Funny how “funny” a talking point becomes when you faced with from an enemies point of view.

I’m surprised non of you reliably predictable sheep are defending ra pe cuz a huge dem donar got busted.

  36. bucs_365 Says:

Yeah Crooked Donny gets more upset about anthem protests in the NFL than he did about neo-nazis marching in Charlottesville and killing a protestor. This is making America great?

  37. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

Gerald responded and gave an obvious answer. He was not even necessarily referring to himself…but stating “grown men” are not
going to buckle and shrink like a flower, like their grandparents, not necessarily their parents had to do, not very long ago, huh?🤔

He was giving a general consensus statement✌

  38. Mike Johnson Says:

Problem I got with a lot of you..flag waivers is..you never seved, and would spin deferrment out the yang yang if america said you had to. Donald T never served as did not many ex prez. I been there guys. And John wayne is pissin in his pants when them no mane bullets start flyin. We are americans. land of the free and home of the brave. If the Klan can march on the streets then people can take a knee during the anthem. Just sayin..its not affecting you. This ain’t Russia. we don’t silence people because of what they say of feel. When I watch an NFl game, I don’t even watch the pregame that much. I want my team to Kick A..! Thats all I care about. Most of you, deep down inside don’t giver a rats A.. about the anthem. And you know it.

  39. 813bucboi Says:

I almost hope this whole things kills the NFL. Then we’ll see how 70% of the league lives without whitey’s money!!

    start their own league…DUH….

@realist says…They say that it is not about disrespecting the Flag and Anthem, though when you look, that is exactly what they are doing!!!! Its like if somebody is robbing a bank, and tells you that they are not robbing the bank, but providing for their family!!!!!!!!!!

your comment is wrong on so many levels it aint even funny….

first, this PEACEFUL protest is not about the flag….people who disagree with the protest try to make it about the flag but those same people don’t know what the flag stands for….JUSTICE FOR ALL!!!!but you and others don’t care because young white men aren’t being killed by unarmed officers….

second, In no way shape form or fashion is this similar to someone robbing a bank….the is a crime….a felony….the players are not committing crimes and protesting is not a felony…..

the longer the players stick together the harder it will be for the nfl to punish them which will cause billionaires to lose money which will force change….

for those that are saying that nothing is happening and players haven’t spoken up need to open their eyes and ears and do some research….players talk every Monday about the movement….a plan is in place….this is just phrase 1….be patient….change is coming!!!…GO BUCS!!!

  40. bucs_365 Says:

Here it comes from the Clod… diversionary tactic to focus on a creep who happens to be a democratic donor, while the pu55ygrabber in chief who he voted for has his own dirty history of predatory sexual behavior… diversions, misdirection, avoidance… bash the libs and never address the truth that’s staring the entire country in the face.

  41. J 2.0 Says:

“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” Kaepernick told NFL Media.

    Literally about the flag.

Sure you can kneel for the anthem or even burn a flag. I can still think you’re a jerk. And I agree with the reason for the protest. I disagree with the method. I did not vote for Trump. Cannot stand the guy, but if this crap continues he will get re-elected.

Anyone ever see that episode of The Simpsons where the advertisements came to life and started killing people. Everyone had to ignore them and they all went away. That is what we need to do with Trump. Stop with “BREAKING NEWS” every time he tweets something insane. Just ignore him and he will go away.

  42. Mike Says:

I don’t care what the reason or cause is that players are kneeling or sitting. I’m a veteran and I find it disrespectful to not stand for the flag which represents those veterans that have protected our rights and way of life as a country. I think they should find another platform to make their cause known. Yes, it’s a benevolent cause they are trying to bring to our attention but I feel they are going about it all wrong. This is just my opinion on the matter.

  43. DB55 Says:

Can I leave this here Joe? It just popped up on my TL and I think it’s fitting bc she is saying what many feel.

    https://www.facebook.com/5745020/videos/10106417904968848/

So the question remains are people mad bc of the kneeling or bc of why they’re kneeling.

  44. AlteredEgo Says:

    Well said Mike….

  45. ClodHopper Says:

    Lol salish

Bitch at me for diversion tactic then do just exactly that.

It’s amazing how much I don’t miss your hate filled anger.

  46. 813bucboi Says:

    db55

obviously the “why” they’re kneeling….if players said they were kneeling because of the mass murders in vegas or Orlando or sandy hook, people would have no problem with it….GO BUCS!!!!

  47. DBS Says:

Sorry anyone has listen to that. No way the N word should be used. But then again I hear it everyday by blacks. And just yesterday on NFL Network a reporter brought up oppression again. If this is about cops killing truly innocent people fine. I have no problem. But quit blaming me for every problem you have. This is 2017 Not the 1960’s.

  48. The Buc Realist Says:

This is not a matter of politics, religion, race or desires!!!! This is a matter of, are you an American?????? Many men and women died for our freedom to honor our country, and the flag symbolizes this freedom. Our flag is the symbol of life made in honor and remembrance of all the veterans who gave their lives for the defense of our country and to attain peace through the whole world!!!!! It is a tribute to all mothers and fathers for their children and themselves through their faith, their love, their loyalty and their devotion that makes this country so great!!!!!!!!!!

It is with our hearts that we pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic, for which it stands, One Nation, Under God, Indivisible, With Liberty and Justice for All!!!!!!!!

People have done people wrong, and should be held accountable, Not the flag!!!!!!!!

Go Truth, Justice, And the American Way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  49. ClodHopper Says:

Boom!! There it is. The race card. I’ve been waiting. I’m proud of you guys for taking so long to use it. Kudos

Didn’t you guys get the memo? That ish don’t work no more. The most overused and watered down tactic in this fine country.

  50. MrLucky Says:

Lakeland you are so wrong! It’s painful reading your ignorant comments about the Constitution and the POTUS

NFL Players are employees and as such must obey the rules and guidelines set forth by their employers. The NFL owners have invested a lot into their teams and as such have a vested interest in pleasing their customers, is the viewers. The NFL employees shall do nothing to harm the NFL brand and applies to wearing unapproved clothing to their on the field actions. It’s really that simple.

If these players want to “protest” then CAN but they better be willing to take the consequences of their actions which will range from benching to fining to firing

Sit for the anthem then sit on the bench

  51. Tampabaybucfan Says:

This is not a free speech issue…..no one can argue that players have the right to kneel during the anthem (if their employer permits it)…..we can argue whether or not it is respectful or disrespectful….(eye of the beholder)

This issue is..do employers have the right to require players to stand…..the answer is clearly YES. Should they (you can argue)……

Should players stand (you can argue)…..Should employers require standing (you can argue)

To call this a free speech issue is very misguided and totally incorrect. (not arguable)

  52. Bucsfanman Says:

@Mike Johnson- Well said sir. People are such hypocrites deriding something that until recently they really didn’t car about. Since the “call-out” I’ve watched how the stands are suddenly filled with red, white, and blue patriots. Those same patriots who, last year, were probably Snapchatting, taking pictures, or talking through the ceremony.
I watched how as Mike and DeSean knelt, cameramen flocked to take their picture over and over and over and over all while the flag waved and we kvetched their “silly” protest. I wonder if those calling for these players firing stand when they’re at home.
We’re all mad and focused on the wrong things. We don’t dare talk about why it started or how the efforts have exacted change. Nope, just the evil-doers with their lazy millionaire protests who just happen to be mostly minority. Fire them! Fire ’em all! Yep, that ought to teach them a lesson. Lets look to our great leaders for direction, comfort, and inclusiveness. Surely THEY can help address society’s issues, right?! THEY would never run from a confrontation, an open discussion on race or equality. That’s what leaders are SUPPOSED to do. A leader would reach out to a kneeling man to pull him up. A leader would ask, “What can I do to make this better?” A leader would reach out to his people and call them brothers or sisters and treat them as though they were his own family. THAT is what a leader would do.
Nope, lets continue to throw gasoline onto a raging fire. Lets ignore the REASON for the protest. Lets forget the most inherently American of American ideals, free speech.
I’m taking a knee on this subject. I’m a veteran, moreover, I’m an American and I’ll stand or kneel whenever I please!

  53. Buc_The_World Says:

All you people talking about why the protesters are protesting they have already said it, police brutality, inequality, and social injustice, but you guys keep worrying about the anthem so much they cant even get their message out, that makes you part of the problem. For all you people talking about your job won’t allow you to protest at work I am sure you don’t have a national television platform there where you work. For all you people saying there are other ways to protest, this has been done whether through marches, boycotts, or riots, nothing has changed. For all of you people talking about disrespecting the military last I checked it was called the national anthem, not the military anthem( I was in the military so don’t come at me with that if you were in the military you would understand). To further expand on that, slaves also died for this country why don’t you honor them as well. The bottom line is if you have a problem with players protesting during the national anthem you are not a true American, because a true american believes in other American’s rights. So keep continuing to criticize those who are trying to make a difference, sit on your couch and whine about sh*t because it inconveniences you and watch your football game while people are being killed and abused, living in poverty, and not being able to get medical attention, because those 3 minutes the anthem is being sung is more important than any of that.

  54. bucs_365 Says:

    @DB55-
That audio is disturbing. I wonder how many people in Don Dump’s America (Deplorable, USA) are harboring the same sentiments as that old woman. I suspect it’s a large number. And people wonder why there are protests.

  55. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    J 2.0 Says
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” Kaepernick told NFL Media.

    “Literally about the flag. “

You are all wrong. This isn’t about the flag. And it is no longer about ‘Black Lives Matter’ either.

It has 100 percent become about the right to protest. That’s what’s making these latest players protest. Oh they can say its because of racism, but the simple truth is this: most of them were not kneeling until the president said they shouldn’t, that they should be fired and thrown out of the country for protesting.

THAT’s what this has become about.

And really, it was never about ‘black lives’ because just as many non-black lives were harmed by corrupt police each year. It should be ‘American Lives Matter.’

  56. ClodHopper Says:

    Bucsfanman

This might be my opinion and my opinion only, but IMO, you being a vet should give you more rights on this subject than us regular citizens. I think vets should have MORE rights than us. It’s the least we could for letting you go get shot and blown up and come home with PTSD or loss of limbs or worse and still not take care of your health properly.

I may disagree with you but I still think your opinion holds more weight than mine. Bless you and thank you!

  57. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Oh, and newsflash…most military guys and gals support the protests, because they served in order to give that right to the American people.

  58. MrLucky Says:

Bucsfanman you post some interesting points but the biggest problem is this- most of these players kneeling during the anthem aren’t really sure WHY they are doing it. When VP Pence left from the 49ers-Colts game a 49ers player (Reid) claimed that was what systematic oppression looks like! How ignorant can a man be?

The issues you talked about are real topics and the place to discuss them is in a building around a conference table not at the 50/yard line before a football game and especially not if you can’t articulate why you are protesting in the first place

  59. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

    @ Clod

10:44 a.m. you use the race card, “Then we’ll see how 70% of the league lives without whitey’s money!!”

    Now you accuse others?

    Derp…derp…derp

  60. ClodHopper Says:

    Rhonda

    You stupid sht

That came from 813. I was using HIS words.

Just to illustrate a cop just got fired for wrongly arresting a white woman, yet the cops who killed black people not only got away with murder but are still on the police force. Why is it so hard for a black person to be treated as an equal? Why does it cause so much outrage when minorities ask to be treated as such? Why do I have to defend people who are trying to make this country better? What does that say about this country? What does that say about you? Think about it.

  77. ClodHopper Says:

Now let’s talk about violent crime… adjusted for population, of course. What are those stats? Inquiring minds want to know!!

  78. darin Says:

Alot of them are confused about what an employer can demand. I never thought id comment on this thing but I just have to this once. Do these guys not realize this is a business? All the teams are losing money over this. What happens when a business loses money? The employees start getting pay cuts. Do they not realize this? When the paycuts start coming are they gona protest over that? Theyre gona kneel their way out of the best job in america. Quite ignorant in my eyes. Kneeling during the anthem is not smart. Theyre promoting equality by an inequal act, ummmm wtf. Start finding ways to come up with change. N one more thing, Most racist people hate all people. Most racist people hate themselves. Why give them the attention they crave? This whole thing is starting to eat at me. So many layers to it but the guys are going about it wrong. Ugh. Anyway Go Bucs

  79. DB55 Says:

I can’t disagree about Darren Wilson. To me that was legit use of force. Mike attacked Wilson and reached for his gun. The fact that mike brown was about 100 ft away when he was shot is what turned the situation into what it is but I would have shot mike brown too.

With that said I need to post these two side-by-side videos of the most recent controversy. I’m searching now. Not one conservative I’ve shown it to as been able to opine. It’s striking and gives little doubt about inequality.

  80. ClodHopper Says:

Well no one thinks racism and inequality DOESNT exist. If that’s what you hear (from most people anyways) then that’s on you. I’ve yet to meet a person that thinks racism is a thing of the past

  81. NoFlyZone27 Says:

It’s very interesting how athlete after athlete after athlete have expressed their stance is not in any way, shape, or form directed at men and women of our armed forces yet individuals choose to reshape the narrative.

In 2017, why are we as a society so afraid to engage in conversations about the inequality many US born citizens are forced to endure?

Race remains a major factor in the world we live in and it’s no longer something we can hide from or ignore.

  82. LakeLand Says:

I will not be standing for the National Anthem! Regardless of where I’m at, regardless of the Function that I’m attending. If I choose to sit, that’s my right and I have the freedom to exercise my rights.

And if people feel offended by my actions

    I don’t really care

  83. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

In this case the employees are the commodity. You have no product to sell otherwise, unless you want to sell a lowered value product like arena league football.

Why don’t people expect the national anthem be played at all sporting events, only the majors televised? Why doesn’t our dodger-in-predator-in-mafia-in-thug-in-affluent-in-bully-in-lout-in-fake-patriot-in-chief whine like a snowflake about contact sports not playing the anthem?

  84. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

Private schools are not included. Private businesses can require things that don’t violate “rights.” Some states even allow employees to be fired for smoking AT HOME for Jimminy’s sake. I’m not terribly offended by the disrespect which it is and don”t give a crap about players opinions. I’d just like to keep the game about the game and not a platform for anything. …And now I’ve got to go delete my Facebook page before I get fired.

  101. BelleGladeBuc Says:

The 1st Amendment protects you from the US Government throwing you in jail or fining you. When Gerald McCoy or any other NFL player is being thrown in jail for their speech, then that will be the moment that their Constitutional rights are being violated. An example of this occurring in US History is when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s 1st Amendment Rights were violated when he was jailed for leading a peaceful protest in Alabama. That’s not occurred yet to my or anybody else’s knowledge regarding Gerald McCoy or anybody else in the NFL. It is the dictionary definition of ignorance to say your 1st Amendment Constitutonal Rights are being violated unless the US Government is jailing you or fining you. No disrespect. That’s just calling a ball a ball, and a strike a strike.

  102. Rod Munch Says:

Players that kneel to support cop killers and to disrespect the country are pieces of trash – but they have that right, and frankly just like with all free speech and freedom of expression, I don’t want anyone silenced, I want to know what people think and who they are. If an employer can legally fire you for not standing for the anthem then what keeps some left nutjob from forcing you honor some man in a dress that patrols girls bathrooms and locker rooms? This is a slippery slope, and yes, slippery slope arguments are legitimate. If players are so dumb and anti-American that they think kneeling for the anthem is a great idea then I want to know who they are so I can use my freedom of speech to make their lives as miserable as I can, so long as no one is threatening physical abuse or to try to take someone’s livelihood away, if it’s speech vs speech – then anything should go and players shouldn’t be running to the media trying to have their critics silenced. Freedom of speech means you’re not going to get arrested, you’re not going to lose your job, you’re not going to be physically abused – but it doesn’t mean others don’t have the same freedom of speech to call you out for being a low IQ piece of trash.

  103. DB55 Says:

  104. webster Says:

People like you care more about dogs (michael vick) then your own fellow man because his color is different from yours. Not once did any player support cop killers. Why lie? I know the alt right loves to lie. You hate cop killers but praise killer cops. You said something about trash?

who commits the most mass murders in America?

between 1982-2017 “whites” lead that category by a land slide….it aint even close….

The statistic shows the number of mass shootings in the United States between 1982 and 2017, by race and ethnicity of the shooter(s). Between 1982 and October 2017, 51 out of 90 mass shootings were initiated by White shooters. The Las Vegas strip massacre in 2017 had the highest number of victims between 1982 and 2017, with 58 people killed, and over 500 injured.

    question answered….

this is about the police killing unarmed americans….it has nothing to do with American committing crimes….trying to play the race card huh…clearly it backfired…nice try..lol…GO BUCS!!!!

  114. Bucnjim Says:

I am not military but come from a military family. I wish the players would understand that to police and military it is the equivalent of spitting in their face. The NFL game is a four hour forum to express your protest at any given time. Kneel pre game post game, after a catch, after a sack, after a first down, after a touchdown, kneel on the 50 yard line, kneel during the post game interview. There is at least 20 different ways (if one single game) to protest what you feel is wrong with society. To offend such a large group of people because it is convenient for you and takes little to no effort is not a wise choice in my opinion.

  115. USFBUC Says:

@DB55 man that video and that woman are insane, jesus that was disturbing.

As a veteran, I really don’t care about people kneeling during the anthem. I say this for two reasons.

One, I have never been to a game where everyone stands for the anthem or if they do stand they talk during the anthem or they are running back to their seat with their beer and hot dog.

Two, people have the right to peacefully protest in this country.

Regarding, the owners and NFL telling players they have to stand that is their right. The owners have that right because they own the business and the NFL can do it so long as its covered in their labor agreement.

One thing I would like to see is more action by players who are protesting and a clear message about why they are protesting. There are some who have come forward and worked with police and done work in their communities but I personally do not feel that it is enough. As somebody else posted earlier, the majority of the players in the NFL are black. With the incredible amounts of money they make they are missing out on the chance to pool their time and money together to really make a difference in the black community.

Food for thought (math might be wrong) -with 70% of the players being black, 53 players per team, and an average salary of $2.1M. If the black players donated 10% of their salary to a single cause per year they would be donating $249,312,000 to a cause. That amount of money is enough to send 7,446 kids to college for a year. Its also enough money to offset the cost of raising 1,083 kids from birth until their 18th birthday.

When you start to include other sports the numbers get really crazy. Black athletes and entertainers have the means to completely change the fortunes of their entire race in the United States of America but they choose not to. There are things that have happened in this country that have set certain groups at a disadvantage but why won’t those who have the means do anything about it?

I know being a officer is extremely tough….my stepfather has been one for 24 years….and believe it or not, even tho he’s an officer, he still deals with racial slurs and people disrespecting him while in uniform on a daily basis….

until both parties come together and admit there’s a problem that needs to be fixed, nothing will change….GO BUCS!!!

  121. Couch Fan Says:

I believe if someone wants to kneel during the anthem they have every right to. But what I dont understand is how they can say its not about the Flag or Anthem while doing it during the Flag and Anthem. They can kneel at any other point in the game but yet choose that particular time and refuse to listen to any other point of views on how it could be perceived as disrespectful to ALL races and minorites including vets. You not feeling its disrespectful does not mean nobody should. Its a race issues for the one kneeling, its a respect issue for the ones opposed to it. Stop confusing the two. Most logical people can agree that racial injustice is a very real issue that needs to be dealt with immediately but clearly kneeling is not bringing about the type of change they are hoping for.

So I ask, other than screaming that repubs are racist, what has the dem party ever done for the black community? They’re policies (purposely or un purposely) encourage single parent households, encourage making it next to impossible to get off welfare, encourage no consequences as children, encourage crime. For example: The over the top taxes on cigs in NYC encourages the sell of loosies so they make selling loosies illegal then tell the cops to crack down on loosie sellers. Now it’s the cops fault and white privelages fault about Eric Garner. The cops were only following orders given to them by the dem leaders. You know we go aways back, buddy. I’m thinking you might be on to me, but you haven’t always been the brightest of the dim bulbs.

How are the ants tasting these days?

  149. Cobraboy Says:

There would be nothing to “overblow” had McCoy just kept his mouth shut.

Seems he ain’t the brightest bulb in the pack…

And the more the players complain and protest, the more paying fans stray away and quit caring about the game, the worse the NFL finances get and the less money, attention and endorsements the players get.

I, for one, care far less about the Bucs & NFL than I did before that pussywhipped QB #7 decided to disrespect the flag of the country that made him a millionaire.

The owners have a real problem on their hands. It’s great comedy to see their Brave Face supporting the Brave Protestors when you know behind the scenes they are scared poopless about their future and the future of the game.

I couldn’t care less if players protest whatever they want. Just don’t do it for the 3-4 hour game day experience. That leaves 164 hours in a week for their protests elsewhere.

Now Puff Daddy or P Diddy or Sean Combs or whatever he calls himself today is tweeting he wants to start a new pro football league. I think he should.

    @ Clod

Actually, it was Michael Bloomberg – an elected Republican, now an Independent – mayor that put in the cigarette tax. Very poor example.
Remember the mayor previous to Bloomberg. His name was Rudy and he implemented stop-and-frisk aka racial profiling

  153. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

You were never one to buckle from banter, surprised you’re so PC these days. Get some needle nose pliers and see if you can pry that manhood out.

  154. MadMax Says:

Still long stroking…..something you’ll never experience lil dk.

  155. ClodHopper Says:

    Rhonda

Right. My bad. I meant liberal policies. I screwed up and said dem cuz some guys get mad when I bring up the L word. But Bloomberg was a liberal republican. I mean come on. Higher taxes? That’s total lib policies.

What happened to crime when Rudy was around? You can say it’s in constitutional and I agree but crime went down.

DB. I might later. I swear I’m not avoiding them. But it’s the busy time of the night for me

  156. ClodHopper Says:

  158. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

  168. Rod Munch Says:

webster – When people are exercising their “rights” to celebrate cop killers and to spit on the military, they’re pieces of trash who, at the very least, should be called pieces of trash. Remember, shall we, regardless of whatever revisionist history nonsense these dopes want to create, this entire thing was created out the fake news that from that fat slob criminal Michael Brown – remember the news, right? The one Obama got on TV and talked about after the fat slob Brown was shot in the back by the police while running away and they kept showing his graduation photo on TV constantly. Well turns out the fat criminal slob Michael Brown had just committed strong armed robbery, was high on drugs and then fought with a cop trying to grab his gun and was shot in the front. It was that event that lead to the riots outside of St Louis, and it was that event, as pushed by Obama and the left as their example of cop abuse. Of course if you’re dealing with a really low IQ dullard they’ll bring up Trayvon as well – of course the fact that had literally zero to do with the cops doesn’t actually matter when your shoe laces know more about current events than your star jock athlete. The fake news reporting from Ferguson lead to the creation of the terrorist group Black Lives Matter whose members killed not only 5 cops in Dallas, but also shot and murdered cops in Louisiana.

So yes, when you take a knee to disgrace the flag and to celebrate cop killers, which these pieces of trash are doing, at the very least they deserve any and all names given to them since they’re worthless low IQ trash. Again, they have the right to do it, and I have the right to mock and ridicule them until the day they die. You see, that’s the way free speech works – it’s a two way street.

I don’t miss MCJ at all. Shortly before it ended I completely quit politics cold turkey. Unfollowed and unliked every single political page on social media. I deleted all my political podcasts, quit talk radio, and never turned on a news network. Off the grid practically.

I WAS SO HAPPY!!! Didn’t miss it a bit.

Then Trump had to open his fat mouth and I got sucked right in!!! I totally hate the way he’s fighting this. But totally love the fact that he’s fighting this. So when the media says if you agree with him you’re a white supremacist, I gotta give the media the old middle finger and get behind the guy fighting for what’s right!!

  172. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

@Bucnjim – thank you, I only wish there was a way for me to reach the top ranks of government so I could try and make our country and the world a better place.

@813bucboi – thank you, a lot of things have to change. While I do not think (hope) there are places where systemic racism still exists we obviously still have issues. I think your post nails several key issues. First in many places (my neighborhood, Progress Blvd, included) it seems that the police and community working together is still too difficult. I also agree that the hiring process needs to change and continual mental evaluations need to be a thing if they aren’t currently.

@unbelievable – thank you, most of my friends who are out and those who are still in think the same as you and I.

@webster – thank you for the response, money is not a bulletproof vest but it goes a long long ways towards changing how the world interacts with you. Obviously the most hate filled people will still hate you regardless of your money or position. You are right, if everyone was more generous then we could solve a lot of problems but my idea for black athletes to give money to charity isn’t about getting justice or equality. It’s about bringing the community up. You see where I live in Tampa and I can tell you that there are other issues at play in the minority communities beyond justice and equality that need to be fixed.

@DB55 – I watch Fox and CNN for laughs and try to piece together the real story. Right now it seems like MSNBC’s Morning Joe might be the best morning news show right now.

  182. ClodHopper Says:

I just realized that coulda sounded bad Joe. I DO miss MOJ. I don’t miss the debating tho. The morning cup was a pleasant and pivotal part of my morning routine even without the debating!!

  183. DavidBigBucsfan99 Says:

I haven’t posted for a long time because of all the buffoons and maroons up here and the idiocy they spew but this kneeling issue takes the cake. The conservative right types up here like hydeclopper always bring their political views up here but when anyone (presumably black) brings up race they and even certain non conservatives get upset. You people have selective amnesia when it comes to race because whites invented racism in America. Not blacks, Latinos, Asians or any other etnic group here but every one of us has stories of racism against us because of whites. This country’s history is rife with with it, it’s in the books and newspapers so no matter how much you deny or ignore it, it’s there. We’ve lived it you haven’t. What is going on in the NFL is the results of all that history so get used to it.

Why is it guys up here when they talk about rights really only mean their 2nd amendment rights but not freedom of speech? The military does not live and die for only one but all of them which is what makes this country great. I was in the Navy and I guarantee many so called red blooded Americans in it don’t care much about patriotism not 30 years ago not now. I love seeing the clowns driving around in their trucks with their 10 foot American flags but never have nor will serve in any military nor many of you opinions like buttholes.. Some of you say these players kneeling for the anthem is a slap in the military’s face as if these guys are traitors. Well what about the people who fly the confederate flags and all confederacy loving folls who call themselves Americans?????? Those confederacy supportors are the BIGGEST form of traitors in the history of this country!!!!!! They fought AGAINST this country and murdered Americans because they didn’t want to give up their lifestyle if free labor and these people of today support that???? The klukers and skinheadz and ariyan brothers of this country all fly it. How is that not a slap in the face of EVERY person who ever served or died in the military????? Why is it now freedom of speech matters? The hipocricy is deafening.

If the government and courts cannot curtail a citizens right to the freedom of speech but yet you think a monopoly like the NFL can? If the players were smart they would take the NFL to court for curtailing their freedom of speech.

Don’t worry you won’t see a post from me again for a ling time so be happy for those who know this screen name. I’m Audi5 g!

  184. webster Says:

You are clueless sir. Blacks have been talking about social injustices and dirty cops way before michael brown. Im sorry you are late to the party. Btw uneducated person, brown was not the one shot in his back. That was the young man in carolina. I suggest you watch that video and u will see the real piece of trash. Oh and strong arm robbery does not mean you should get killed by rogue cops because many caucasions have committed strong arm robbery and were simply carted off to jail. Btw….video shows he did not rob the convenient store. A new video came out that debunked your alt right theory. Once again you are late to the party. For the record, obama’s example and knowledge of police abuse was way before michael brown ie rodney king. Blacks were aware of these type of travesties for decades/centuries. This has been going on for a long time. Its really unfortunate you just got the memo. You are clueless my friend. So ridicule all you want. These players take a knee for the 12 year old that was gun down by cops in ohio. These players kneel for the 20 year old girl in texas that was forced to strip naked then molested at a texaco for 15 minutes because the cops said they were performing a cavity search. These guys are kneeling because clueless individuals such as yourself thinks everything is all good. Bye felicia

  185. webster Says:

    Rod

I wonder how you would feel if cops pull up and shoot your 12 year old son 3 seconds after they get out of the car. How would you feel if cops were molesting your daughter for 15 minutes naked at a texaco? If you are ok with that then you are the piece of trash.

  186. The Buc Realist Says:

All I am hearing in this thread are problems!! No one is suggesting answers!!!!! That is why I have been working with Bighogheinous for a new start up company that will be a win win for everyone!!!!! Its called Privilage For Hire or PFH!!!! It will work like Uber, but it is for those who do not want to be shot unarmed for no reason!!!!!!! Instead of getting 25 years and a beating for weed, you would just get a $40 citation with our service!!!! Instead of being shot unarmed for no reason, the cop will just give a warning and tell you to ” Be careful, and have a good day gentlmen”!!!!!! It will be great!!!!!!!! and with our PFH all traffic lights are green, and tolls and coffee is half price!!!!!!!!

We are style in the Beta-phase and to be honest, Bighogheinous is bringing nothing to the table!!!!! But I just want him for advertising campaign!!!!!! One commercial will be that he is taking a knee at publix in the pasta/rice isle because uncle ben’s rice is not a BOGO, and three cops out of no where appear and beat him with “fake” billy clubs!!!!!! another commerical will be, he is in a parking lot and cracks the door, looking left and right. The camera does a wide shoot to show that no one is withing 100 yards of him, then he steps out and the 3 cops appear from no where and beat him with the “fake billy clubs”!!!!!!! But the service will be great!!!! It creates Jobs, it will save lives, and some will make a quick buck, which is the American way!!!!!!!!!!!

Where do I sign up? You kid but you’re not too far off from the truth. We just want to be treated equally. You know like in the bill of rights.

If you wouldn’t shot a white guy for resisting arrest then dont shot us.

If you can get fired for arresting a nurse, then you can get fired for shooting an unarmed person.

If you can let hundreds of armed protestors point rifles at federal agents without consequences, then you can allow peaceful protestors anywhere without consequences.

  189. DB55 Says:

And as for disrespecting the military you should watch your president’s interview on hannity yesterday. Dude is so clueless it’s cringe worthy.

  190. AlteredEgo Says:

“We just want to be treated equally”….act like it….the only thing only blacks back are other blacks…not American society…in the past 50 years dozens of other nationalities have arrived an integrated into the ever evolving American culture….hand up…not hand out….America is the land of opportunity not entitlement ….as Bob Marley said…
” Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery
None but ourselves can free our minds”

Every time I hear or read someone claim white people dont shot by cops, it makes me care a little less. It’s totally false. There’s not even a tiny little sliver of truth in it. Einstein split the atom and there was still more substance there than truth is in that completely false, fake, phony, talking point. It’s a bigger lie than if you like your plan….

You wonder why, according to you, we won’t listen. Try the truth once in while, wolf criers.

  194. ClodHopper Says:

I’ve done the best I can to help you. The perfect advice is QUIT VOTING DEMOCRAT!! I already quit voting democrat. Nothing more I can do. It’s up you now. God helps those who help themselves. If I keep seeing someone willfully stab themselves in the eye, I quit feeling bad for that person after a while.

Another important piece: I’m not saying the GOP is your knight in shining armor. I’m saying don’t let one party have so much control over you.

I’ll say again. Go look at the worst cities in the country and see when the last republican mayor was. Over 100 years for some of them.

Reminds me of the gay liberal Dave Rubin getting called a “far right winger” strictly because he doesn’t ask tough enough questions to right wingers. You can’t make this stuff up.

I wish I was shocked at how far left the left has gotten. I didn’t leave the dem party. The dem party left me

  199. ClodHopper Says:

What’s th deal with white liberals getting so butt hurt when you suggest to a POC to not vote liberal? Are you afraid the right will abuse their votes and take them for granted and do NOTHING for them like y’all been doing since LBJ’s famous words? Haha. Search “Salt lake city police shot black man”.

Search “Cop refuses to shot man even though he was a threat to officers life”

    Search under videos on google.

Clod, don’t take my word for it just look for yourself.

Same as it ever was I guess. Once a hypocrite, always a hypocrite, amiright?

  202. ClodHopper Says:

Right now they’re not even trying to be reasonable. The left is so far left, moderates and even center letters are called right wing extremists every day.

Is this to me? If so I’m not sure what you’re saying.

The first one showed a man getting shot after fleeing arrest. The second one showed a man trying to beat up the police and trying to run him over yet no shots fired.

Sad truth is that I don’t have to cherry pick. This stuff comes across my TL daily. I’m not trying to waste your time or argue with you just sharing information. But if what you saw doesn’t move you in any way I understand.

See what you did? You caged the topic. First you say it doesn’t happen. Now you say it does, just not enough. IDK if you read my post earlier, but I already went over this.

I’m talking in stone cold facts and you share an opinion piece.

    “Huckabee is not, factually, incorrect.”

Right after that they jump head first into the spin zone.

Don’t forget to factor in violent crime, adjusted for population. I think that is a very important detail in this whole argument. I garren fckn tee you, if violent crime goes down, people getting shot goes down.

Even after saying that, If your claim was that blacks get shot too much, I probably wouldn’t argue, but you wouldn’t believe how many times im told it doesn’t happen to whites.

As far as your timeline: This is a big country, there are cameras every where. The internet is instant and vast. Any narrative you want, can be “proven” through this anecdotal evidence.

I could post videos like this ALL! DAY! LONG! and say look at these blacks shooting cops all the time. But I dont, because its a weak argument. They’re just cherry picked, singe events. I could even show a bunch of articles and videos about black supremacists that want race wars. Ever heard of fukyoflag?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuMTj0wT6Cs

  208. Clodhopper Says:

Theres a lot of things I wouldn’t argue against, and even stand WITH you on. Driving while black, excessive force etc etc.

But this narrative that there’s an epidemic of cops picking off poc for no reason is just false. You say I cant possibly understand and that’s a fair argument, that’s why I have to go off stats and data. I cant go off of what I see in my daily life and TL, and the stats and data don’t back up that argument.

But they do back up your argument that cops can be dicks and bullies that abuse their power.
